His will, written in N. Providence on 10 Feb 1780 and pr there 1 Apr 1780 (N.
Prov. Council and Probate Rec. A:204) was witnessed by Edward Tripp Jr., who
was not ment in will and was not a son as will specified "two sons"
of the testator; his relationship unknown. Wife Susannah recd her thirds; his
two sons John and Seth had real estate in N. Prov. and Johnston. The personal
estate was divided among these sons and 5 daus (Susannah Smith, Anne Smith, Sarah
Potter, Mary Angell and Elizabeth Mathewson). The inv was dated 29 Mar 1780 and
an acct filed on 2 Dec 1793 (ibid A:209,350). He was poss the Edward who
served in the campaign of 1761 (Howard M. Chapin, "RI in the Col Wars-A
List of RI Soldiers and Sailors in the Old Fr and Ind War 1755-1762" (Prov
1918) 141). He was at the Gen assembly Newport 4 May 1736, of Providence and
was admitted as freeman (John Russell Bartlett, ed, "Records of the Colony
of RI and Providence Plantations in New England" (Prov. 1859) 4:518.

Susanna AMES was born on 13 Jun 1711 in Bridgewater, MA. She died
on 1 Feb 1788 in Johnstown, Providence, RI. She was christened. She was buried.
! She was dau of Capt Nathaniel and Susanna (Howard) Ames and desc of James
Chilton, a Mayflower passenger. She d. ae 77. (Bridgewater VR 1:36 [b];
Sherman, 317-8; Arnold, 14:356, 15:563, Providence Gazette, issue of 1 Feb 1788).

10 Mar 1769 Nathan Potter, son of Job Potter. They were still in Providence in
