FIFTH GENERATION

325. Benjamin TRIPP was born in 1747 in Foster, Providence, RI. He died about 1829 in Plainfield, CT. He was christened. He was buried. ! Benjamin bought land on 19 Feb 1790 (Bk 2:377) by the Old Colony Line in Scituate and Foster. Benjamin and Sarah began selling their land on 28 Mar 1795 (Bk 2:587) when they sold 22 acres to Albro Tripp. On 4 Aug 1797 (Bk3:69) they mortgaged land which was later repaid. On 23 Dec 1799 (Bk 3:237) Benjamin & wife Sarah sold 16 acres to Alexander Dorrance and on 14 Dec 1801 they sold to Southward Griffin of Foster part of a piece in Foster that was the tract bequeathed to him by his father Abial's will (Bk 3:367). Benjamin apparently sold in preparation for his removal from RI. He was censused in 1790 with 2 males over 26, 3 males under 16 and 3 females (Scituate). Later, he was in Williamstown MA with wife and son under 16 and a dau. Benjamin and his sons had apparently departed from Scituate-Foster area by 1791 since no Tripps signed the separation petition. Land records definitely show Benjamin's wife as Sarah. The will of Sarah Nichols (RIGR 8:258) of East Greenwich, wid of Alexander Nichols, dated 26 Jan 1791, mentions among others her sister Mercy Albro wife of Benoni Albro, her cousin Sarah Tripp wife of Benjamin Tripp and her brother Isaac Browning. [Sarah Tripp would be dau of sibling of Sarah Nichols' parent]. (Randall, Peleg Tripp 2-3, wife as Elizabeth; CT Nutmegger Dec 1982, Query #7778; IGI RI M06; Valentine, 143,147,148,183; Murray Combs, 1025 Sharon Drive, Glen Burnie MD 21061; Place Gen, which gives Benjamin 1752-1824/9, from Margery Matthews).

He was married to Sarah /Elizabeth ?ALBRO. Sarah /Elizabeth ?ALBRO was born about 1760. She was christened. She died. She was buried. ! Sarah was possibly dau of Benoni and Mercy (Browning) Albro. Elizabeth has also been given as the name for Benjamin's wife, but land records clearly establish her name as Sarah. The will of Sarah Nichols of East Greenwich, RI, wid of Alexander Nichols, dated 26 Jan 1791, pr South Kingstown 14 Apr 1800 mentions among others her sister Mercy Albro wife of Benoni Albro and her cousin Sarah Tripp wife of Benjamin Tripp. (Undocumented information from Murray Combs, 1025 Sharon Drive, Glen Burnie MD 21061; RIGR 8:258 from SK Probate Rec. 1:44-46).
