22. Sylvanus TRIPP was born in 1660 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island. He died in 1741 in Kittery, York County, Maine. He was christened. He was buried in Kittery, York County, Maine. Sylvanus Tripp is my 7th Great Grand Uncle. Sylvanus Tripp was possibly child number 11 of John Tripp the Founder. At one time he was reported lost at sea, but turned up later in Kittery, Maine, which was part of Massachusetts at the time. John's letter backs up that theory. No one knows for certain, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints Library also lists Sylvanus as son of John Tripp, the founder. References: Randall, Sylvanus manuscript from the New Bedford Library; Bock: The name Tripe was used for the first 4 generation, but later descendants used Tripp. Maine was part of Massachusetts at this time. Sylvanus, a weaver, bought land from Margaret's mother that later was known as Tripe's Point and is now part of Kittery Navy Yard. He was married to Margaret DIAMOND (daughter of William DIAMOND and Joann ?). Margaret DIAMOND was born about 1675 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island. She died on 17 Feb 1741 in Kittery, York County, Maine. Sargent, Me Wills [Portland ME 1887] 435-7). in it were mentioned grandchildren Samuel Tripe, Abigail Tripe, Anna Tripe and William Tripe, the children of son Silvanus; son Thomas Tripe; son Robert Tripe; dau Joanna Pope; dau Margaret Fernald; dau Mary Follet; grandson Samuel Tripe, son of son Samuel Tripe dec.; son Robert Tripe; grandson Thomas Tripe; grand dau Margaret Tripe; grand dau Margaret Pope; grandson William Fernald; children of son Samll Tripe dec.- Sarah Tripe and Anne Tripe. He was listed as William, NY 42528 in Index of Rev War Pension Applications.
