A: I’m 69.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up just a few miles outside of McArthur.

Q: Did you live on a farm?

A: It was only about 27 acres, but we called it a farm.

Q: What did your parents do for a living?

A: My father worked on the State Highway Department and my mother was a housewife.

Q: Where did you go to elementary school?

A: I went all 8 years in a one-room school.

Q: What was it called?

A: Wood School.

Q: What was it like?

A: Well, we only had one teacher. She would call classes and we would go up and sit in what we called a recitation seat. It was a small and we would go up there and have our classes and then work on out work the rest of the day.

Q: Wasn’t it scary for you to come to the High School after you had went all 8 years in a one room school?
