Interview

Q: What is your name?

A: My name is Jack Oiler.

Q: When were you born?

A: I was born November 14th, 1934.

Q: And you were born in McArthur, right?

A: No, I was born in Wellston.

Q: When did you move to McArthur?

A: We moved here when I was about six months old, and I lived here ever since, somewhere around

Vinton County.

Q: Can you remember anything that has changed in the town, or what the town used to look like?

A: Basically it hasn’t changed much from then till now. The only noticeable change is on the corner

where the BP station is- there used to be a smaller station there, and there was a grocery store to the

right where the Unity Loan building is now, and there was a department store there. Basically

everything is in the same location, they just had different names for the stores, but nothing has been

completely done away with. Except the old Kroger building was turned into the Human Services

Department.

Q: Were there more people in McArthur, would you say, then or now?

A: I’d say the same amount of people?

Q: What kind of businesses were up town?

A: There were two hardware stores, and now there is only one.
