Interviewer: What is your name?

Margaret: Margaret Hulbert.

Interviewer: When were you born?

Margaret: April 27,1926.

Interviewer: What was your parents' jobs?

Margaret: My father worked at various places.  He worked at the brick plant.  He worked wherever he could.  We were poor people.   My mother didn’t work outside of the house.  She was a housewife.

Interviewer: How many brothers and sisters did you have?

Margaret: One half sister who lives in Fort Myers, Florida and one brother, Elden Whitecox, who died five years ago.

Interviewer: Where did you live as child?

Margaret: The same house I live in now.  Until Dwight and I were married, I lived at 508 Mills Street.  I was twenty-five when I started living at this house.

Interviewer: Did World War I, World War II, the Korean conflict,or Vietnam effect your family?

Margaret: My father was at the age in between the wars.   He wasn’t drafted, but my brother and husband were in World War II as was my brother–in-law.

Interviewer: Do you remember any national disasters?

Margaret: There were many disasters.  There were two or three during the war - the bombings. There were also many floods in Vinton County.   So there were a lot of national disasters back then.

Interviewer: Is there any thing you would like to tell us that we haven’t already talked about?

Margaret: I went to McArthur Elementary - the old one where the elementary school is. It was a two-room school.  The younger children sat in the front.
