What was McArthur like when you were
younger?

Interview
Q: What brought you to McArthur?
A: Well, Vinton County was my fathers home. He was in the Service so we moved around a lot. When he retired he wanted to come home, so we moved back to Vinton County.
Q: What was McArthur like when you moved here (in the 1940s) was it smaller or bigger ?
A: Well it was basically about the same size but there was a lot more, a lot more stores. The Main St. was busy with several grocery stores, a hardware store, a mens clothing store, a womens clothing store. There were Jewelry stores, several restaurants. It was a busy, busy place.
Q: Did kids have their own cars when you were younger?
A: No, we walked anywhere we went. To the movies, to school to the library . Every once in a while someone would get the family car and as many kids that would fit in it would load up and we would go all night long on a $1.00 worth of gas. Occasionally we would go to Wellston but other than that we never left town.
Q: Is there anything more that you would like to add?
A: Well it really was the Good Old Days.
Q: So you liked McArthur better then?
A: Yes, I think I did.
