Q: What were things like when you were growing up in Allensville?

Ralph: Sleigh ride down through the main street of Allensville every night.

Q: Were there very many jobs in Allensville, or did people have to go out of the community?

Ralph: They had to go out and find it, there was one mill, one garage, but that was about it, except for several grocery stores.

Q: Could you get every thing you needed in Allensville or did you have to drive to McArthur?

Ralph: You could get about anything in Allensville.

Q: What were your schools like?

Ralph: I went to a one room school house till the eighth grade, then I went to High School and it was in Allensville.

Martha: It had three rooms, and a home economics room and a shop room for the boys.

Q: How did you get to school, did you walk, ride the bus?

Ralph: Well, I drove part of the time, my dad took me part of the time, and neighbors took turns driving.

Martha: I rode the School bus.

Q: Did you go to a one-room schoolhouse too?

Martha: In the beginning no I started at Chillicothe three story building, till we moved to the country, then it was a one room school till I started high school. Then I went to the same one room Ralph did. It was known as Richland Rural High School.

Q: What is one childhood memory that stands out the most in your mind?

Martha and Ralph- Dr. Oaland Burts.

Ralph: Because every time she took him to the principal’s office I had to go and see that she didn’t hurt him.
