APPEARANCES

People can hide their feelings
If they're feeling low,
But others can usually tell
By the expression their faces show.

Some have learned to be quite clever.
Their faces are a disguise.
They force a smile upon their lips
And wipe the sadness from their eyes.

They go through life pretending.
And no one thinks to ask
If they are feeling any pain.
They hide it with a mask.

Loneliness is covered
By a look of gaiety.
Their faces show contentment,
And that's all that people see.

We must care enough to look closely,
Since outward appearances lie.
Or someone who seems to love life
May decide it's better to die.
