The Robber
A robber of life burst through my door.
In a moment its hostage I became.
Fear gripped me, as I knew if it stayed
My life would never be the same.
While this robber did not kill me,
There's so much it took away.
The burden I was left with
Brought a struggle to each day.
"Why me?" I cried. "What have I done
for my life to turn out so?
I surely don't deserve this fate."
But the robber wouldn't go.
As time went on, I came to see
A truth that helped me understand:
In struggle, I am not alone,
Few lives proceed as they are planned.
To some degreee we all are robbed
Of the lives that we desire.
Somewhere, sometime, as we journey on
We'll all walk through the fire.
Whether illness affecting our body or mind,
Or sorrow affecting our heart,
There's one thing the robber of life can't touch.
It has no control of this part.
The soul we possess as a gift from God
Is ours for eternity.
It gives us hope and strength and peace,
Whatever our circumstances be.
When the robber comes, I pray we will not
Let bitterness take control.
But make the choice to find our strength
In the depths of our God-given soul.
