One of humankind's earliest shamanic
connections has been with plant spirits, including entheogens (plants
that give one a connection to the gods through altering consciousness).
According to all indigenous peoples who practice it (and that includes
almost everyone) fermentation is also a gift of the spirits. Wine and
other fermented beverages have been used extensively by shamans
in many places for ritual, for connecting with the gods and other
spirits, and for other sacred purposes.
In this workshop we will enjoy wine, food and deep discussion in the
traditional setting of a Greek symposion,
sharing the history of wine, the vine and Dionysus, who from his
beginnings was the expression of the archetypal energy of Divine
intoxication, and intoxification with the Divine.
After participating in the symposion,
we will use shamanic journeying, ritual and other techniques to make
individual, personal connection with Dionysus and his realm. Where he leads you depends on the
relationship you then form with him.
Crow has
developed a profound relationship with Dionysus over many years of
enjoyment of the fruits of the vine, which has also informed his
shamanic work with the God. For
more information on his
experiences and understandings of Dionysus, see his article Trekking with the God of the Vine:
an Exploration of Dionysus, soon to be published on this
site.
