Phanerophlebia C. Presl, Tentamen Pteridographiae, 1836
Phanerophlebia was separated from Polystichum, and many people still include these species in that genus. These species have often also been included in another Polystichum segregate, Cyrtomium, but there are significant differences. Geographically, Cyrtomium species are Old World, while Phanerophlebia are New World.
The treatment of Phanerophlebia here follows that of Yatskievych in Annals of the Missouri Botanical Gardens 83:2, pp. 168-199, 1996.
