During this year’s Milan Fashion Week, the Italian luxury footwear brand Casadei will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary with, for the occasion, a dedicated collection and a book. The anniversary collection, designed by Cesare Casadei, comprising eleven models of shoes made by hand by skilled artisans in San Mauro Casadei Pascoli, is featured in the third part of the book on sensual photographs by fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth. Captured in black and white, the unique pieces celebrate the founding of the Italian house in 1958 by Quinto and Flora Casadei. Tracing fifty years of history, the book by Mariuccia Casadio contains photos from the archives of the house of hundred pairs of shoes, from spring / summer 1958 up to spring / summer 2008, as well as an interview with Cesare Casadei, the son of the founder and artistic director today. Both the anniversary collection of Casadei shoes and the book will be unveiled on September 21 during an evening at La Triennale, the Museum of Design in Milan.

Combine the provocative sensuality of Ellen von Unwerth’s photography with the legacy of Casadei’s divine shoes, and what you get is a collection of 10 incredibly unique snapshots. Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the maison, models wear nothing but one of the 11 shoe designs which Casadei has specifically created for the occasion (and which may only be ordered at its boutique in Milan or at Harrods in London). Along with these photographs, a mini-series, comprising three books, has been published, featuring Casadei’s historic collaborators that include the likes of Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin. A refined cocktail soirée was organised at the Triennale during the recent Milan Fashion, which was attended by the crème de la crème of the city’s fashion crowd, including Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief, Franca Sozzani.
