Karen was born near Rotterdam and raised in Den Haag, Holland. Karen always dreamed of being a model and one day just for fun, she entered the Elite Modeling Agency's Look of the Year Contest and won runner-up. She signed with Elite Modeling Agency and seeing her great potential, they encouraged Karen to model professionally. Appearing in GUESS? ads along with Shana Zadrick, Karen role-played the part of a Las Vegas Show Girl and had a blast under the big city lights of "Sin City." As another discovery by Paul Marciano, president and creative director of GUESS?, Inc., Karen added her name to a long list of famous GUESS? Girls including Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, Carre Otis, Frederique Van der Wal, as well as many others.
