HOUSE OF CAMPARI PRESENTS

"PASSIONATE IMAGE: THE BODY IN ART AND ADVERTISING"

Exhibited at STEVEN KASHER GALLERY

November 11 - 19, 2005

Continuing Campari's long standing tradition of arts patronage, renowned photographers, actors, comedians, and authors will gather at the Steven Kasher Gallery, 521 West 23rd St., 2nd Floor, New York, NY from November 11-19 for a groundbreaking exhibit titled: "Passionate Image: The Body in Art and Advertising."

Presented by the House of Campari, the curated exhibit includes an intriguing selection of art photographs as well as examples of print advertising that chronicle some of the ways that art and advertising have influenced one another over the last 30 years. Curated by the stellar team of Vince Aletti, Steven Kasher and Craig Hensala and of Scenic, "Passionate Image" examines how artists and particularly photographers have captured the sensual body, and diverse ways that those images have been conveyed.

The exhibit includes photographs and secondary sources such as magazines, books and catalogs. Artists included range from photography masters such as Arthur Elgort and Horst to recent works by David LaChapelle, Ellen Von Unwerth, Steven Klein and Matthew Rolston as well as artists such as Marilyn Minter, Tracey Moffatt and Jack Pierson.

Some of the works in this exhibition have been provided courtesy of Staley-Wise Gallery, ChaimReed Gallery, Projectile Gallery and Salon 94.

In a time when passion and expression in the arts are themes of timely socio-political discussion, Campari is once again uniting the arts community, as it has as a patron of the arts with its year-long support of the arts in the United States. With a distinguished reputation for depicting fashion and a sophisticated lifestyle in its iconic "Passion Posters" campaign prized by individual collectors and museums worldwide, the brand's art posters and creative campaigns have featured the work of numerous eclectic artists throughout the decades. Some of Campari’s accomplished contributors have included Sacchetti, Capiello, Fortunate Depero, Milton Glaser, Matthew Rolston and Bruno Munari, whose original contribution is now part of New York's Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection.

Campari is one of the first brands to commission artists to create works to be used as advertising. Launched in 1864 by Davide Campari, the founder's son and respected patron of the arts in Milan, the original "Passion Posters" directives are still in place. Considered the forefather of color poster advertisements, Davide revolutionized the burgeoning field of advertising. He commissioned great contemporary artists to create Campari advertisements, setting only three basic rules: display the brand name, use uncomplicated colors and incorporate the brand naturally into the picture.

The exhibit "Passionate Image" is the embodiment of Campari's longstanding tradition of arts patronage and commitment to bold expression.
