ACARA Field Day 2008 Results
According to the ARRL online database, the ACARA placed 47th out of 140 class 1A entries (34th percentile). The QST Field Day Results article in December QST (and the PDF) doesn't differentiate between classes 1A, 1A-B, and 1A-C. If we also consider classes 1A-B and 1A-C, the ACARA placed 47th out of 166 entries (29th percentile). Class 1A-B(attery) is for those stations running five watts or less and they get a 5x QSO-point multiplier. Class 1A-C is for those stations operating from mobile stations; they get a QSO-point multiplier of 1, 2, or 5 depending on how their station is powered. (Click here for class 1A Entries; W8MHV is found on page 2.) Please note that the 46th-place 1A entry made over twice as many QSOs as the ACARA did but their score was only two points higher than ours; two additional CW QSOs or three additional phone QSOs by the ACARA would have given the ACARA 46th place. Looking just in Ohio, the ACARA placed 5th out of 11 class 1A entries. The fourth-place 1A group in Ohio made over three times as many QSOs as the ACARA did and their score is over twice that of the ACARA so we'd have had to work very, very hard to move up even one position. (Click here for class 1A Entries in Ohio.) Within Ohio, independent of class, the ACARA placed 55th out of 115--just below smack-dab in the middle (48th percentile). (Click here for all Entries in Ohio; W8MHV is found on page 3.) Those who participated in Field Day 2008 with the ACARA will remember that thunderstorms kept the group off the air for several hours on Satuday. Had the club been able to operate during those hours, the group could easily have placed several places higher within class 1A. |
