Alone

CC decided that she finally had enough. She couldn't stand being around so much happiness, knowing that she would never be a part of it. Fran and Maxwell were happily married so they were a big happy family. And she was no part of it. So she staid home. She would never go back again. She may have seemed like a cold hearted bitch, but she needed love too.

Niles was very busy that morning. They had a big dinner that evening and he needed to prepare the food. He would not have to serve it, because Mr. Sheffield hired some other butlers to take his place. With everything he did he still felt that he had forgotten something. Then Maxwell entered the kitchen.

"Niles have you seen CC?" That was what he had forgotten. He didn't fight with Miss Babcock yet.

"No sir. Maybe she's sick." He knew that wasn't true, because even if she was sick, she would come to work.

"You know that she would be up even if she had a pnuemonia."

"What do you think has happened?" He acted like he didn't care, but inside he started to worry. He promissed himself he would check up on her if she didn't show for lunch.

CC sat in her appartment thinking about her life. How she was raised by various nanny's until she went to her first boarding-school. She realised that she was never really loved. Sure she had had boyfriends, but they loved her money, and not her. She had never loved anybody. When she thought about it she realised she never knew true love until she came with the Sheffields. Maxwell loved his wife very much. She was a little jealous, but her goal was to become succesfull so she didn't pay much attention to them. When Sarah died she figured Maxwell would be a good partner. She didn't love him, she just liked him. Then Nanny Fine came and she made him love again. So now everybody loved each other again, and she was left behind, not knowing how to love anybody.

Niles really started to worry. It was almost twelve o'clock and they hadn't heard anything from CC.

"Why do you think she hasn't come in yet, Mrs. Sheffield?"

"What do you care, Niles?" But when Fran looked into his eyes she knew that he cared. A lot.

"Oh Niles everything is going to be ok. Maybe she just forgot to come in today."

"Don't help." He left to go to CC's appartment.

CC had finally done all the thinking she could manage. She was going to move away. She never wanted to be with those happy Sheffields again. She was ok with leaving, except she was going to miss Niles. Hell she all ready missed him. There was a knock at the door. For a moment she wondered if it was Niles. It would never be him. He didn't care, nobody cared. She started cry again. She didn't want open the door but who ever was behind it would not give up.

She opened the door. She immediatly wanted to close it again because it was Niles.

When Niles saw her open the door he was a little bit frightened by saw. She had obviously cried a lot. She wanted to close the door, but Niles put his foot between it.

"So come in. See if I care." She walked back in her appartment and sat on the couch.

"Miss Babcock....CC...What's wrong? Why didn't you come to work today? We were really worried about you." He went to sit besides her. She looked up into his eyes. Niles saw what she felt in her eyes for the first time. She looked very hurt and alone. He knew where he saw it before. Sometimes when he looked in the mirror and thought about his love, he looked the same.

"Why would any one worry about the terrible CC. Be honest Niles. You only came here because Maxwell told you to. Why I don't know, because he's to busy with his wife to care about business." She started to cry again. She hated to be so vulnerable with Niles besides her. He would surely do something to make her feel worse.

"CC please stop talking like nobody cares about you. We care. And for you information Mr. Sheffield didn't sent me here. He thought that you just wanted to take the day off. I came her because I was worried. I care." He put his arm around her. He loved her so much. She loved him so much. They were both to afraid to admit it.

"Stop talking like you care. We both know that you hate me." She didn't want to believe that he cared. He put his hand on her cheek and he made her look into his beautiful blue eyes.

"I don't hate you CC. I love you. More than anyone or anything in the world. You're not alone in this world. I'll always be by your side." She couldn't believe her eyes. He loved her. Off all the people in the world he had to be in love with her. He carefully kissed her lips.

"Oh Niles I thought I was alone in this world. That nobody would ever love me. But you do. And I do. I really love you." She kissed him. They knew they were never going to be alone again. They would always have each other.
