Fran was sitting on the couch of the Sheffield mansion with her mother crying.

"Oh Ma, I don't wanna get older!" She sobbeed.

"You know, it makes me feel really old now that you're turning thirt-"

Fran cut her off abruptly as Maxwell entered the room.

"Oh, hi Mr. Sheffield."

"What's the matter Miss Fine? Your eyes are all puffy." Max asked not meaning anything in particular by it.

"See Ma?! The signs of aging are already showing!" Fran.

Sylvia looked at her daughter lovingly,"He meant because you were crying sweet heart."

"Oh." Fran looked up at Max.

Max looked at Fran intently as if he had something to tell her and was searching for the right words. He knew she wouldn't be crying by the end of tonight.

He gently slid an envelope into Fran's hand.

"Oh, Mr. Sheffield, you shouldn't have." She smiled.

"Happy Birthday Miss Fine." Max said.

Fran opened the envelope slowly. Inside she found a $100 gift certificate to Lohemanns.

"Oh!" Fran tried to disguise her dissapointment.

"A gift certificate?!" Sylvia cried.

Fran gave her a dirty look and started to get up to give Max a hug when she heard a noise over the intercom. It was Niles. "A bloody GIFT CERTIFICATE?!!!" Niles yelled over the intercom.

"You couldn't do better than that!?" His voice boomed loudly through the intercom. Fran smiled in agreement, until she noticed a small peice of paper that slipped out the bottom of the card. Max looked at her lovingly, and she decided she would save it to read for later. She stuffed it inside of her shirt before anyone noticed. "Oy, well, I'd better go sweetie." Sylvia sighed. "Happy Birthday Darling." She cooed.Fran forced a smile. Sylvia picked up her purse and exited through the front door.

Later, Fran walked over to Max's office. "Knock Knock." She said and swayed gently into the room. Max was sitting at his desk as Niles dusted the lamp arguing with C.C., who was laying on the sofa, over something.

"Oh, Miss Fine, I'm glad you're here."

"Oh You are, are you?" Fran suggested playfully.

Niles turned to C.C. :Oh, Now how come he never says that to you?"

C.C. smirked at him angrily

"Could Miss Fine and I speak in private please?" Max was motioning for the other two to leave. Niles and C.C. didn't seem to get the hint. Niles continued to dust as C.C. filed her nails lying on the sofa. "Oh, You mean us?" Niles inquired after a few seconds.

"Yes you!" Max boomed. "Now Go."

The two did as they were told and Fran wiggled over to Max's desk where she sat on the edge of his desk, as she had many times before. " What is this?" Fran smiled holding up the note that she had almost dropped earlier. "Oh? You haven't read it yet?" Max inquired. "No, well maybe, uh...yeah..." she smirked. "So, we're goin' on a date tonight huh?" She said playfully.

"If that's what you want to call it." Max said a bit uncomfortably. "Yes, I do want to call it that." Fran answered with a smile.

"Well, OK then, be ready at 8."

"Oooh...Late night dinner huh?" Fran cooed.

Max looked uncomfortable. "Uh, Yeah"

Later that night, Fran made her way gracefully down the stairs in a beautiful silk green gown, her hair and make-up perfect, her face had an unusual glow, as if she knew something that no one else knew that she knew. Max and Niles's jaws dropped as she took the final step down the staircase. Max looked at Niles with a smirk and closed his mouth for him. "She's my date remember?" Fran laughed at their reaction. "Your date? So that's what you want to call it now?" Fran smiled.

Max looked at her "Uh, let's go shall we?" he said quickly to change the subject.

Fran and Max were riding in the back seat of the limo together whenall of a sudden, it stopped with a hault. "Oh My God!" Fran shouted. "The limo broke down!" Max looked at her. "Are you scared?" he asked.

Fran smirked. She planned to take full advantage of their situation. "Uh...Yeah." Max held out his arms for her and she collapsed into them. He stroked her hair lovingly. "Do you think they'll e able to fix it?" Fran asked. "It'll probably take a while." Max sighed. Fran smiled wide. "Oh, I'm scared! hold me tighter!" Her voice wasn't very convincing. But, Max did as he was told, actually, quite gladly.

After a while, he gently lifted Fran's head and gazed into her eyes. "You look beautiful tonight." He said. "Oh? You like? ...Wha?!" She exclaimed reaizing exactly what had just been said. "What am I sying? You always look beautiful." Max cooed. "Oh, Mr. Sheffield." She smiled lovingly. "Please, call me Max." He insisted.

Fran's eyes were wide with excitement. She gazed at him...'this is it!' she thought 'he's finally going to ask me!' "Fran...I love you...I really do, and this time I promise not to take i back." "Oh Max!I love you too!"She exclaimed. "Fran,I can't imagine what my life would have been like if I hadn't met you...so would you please marry me?" His eyes were vulnerable as he held the ring box out to her. "Oh Max! Yes!This is the best birthdy present ever!" Her tears of joy turned into a playful smirk. "Did you really think I woulda said no?"
