Fran was slowly getting ready to go to her mothers and then to the movies. She wore her favorite black skirt, blouse, black hose, and a pair of boots that reached up to her calf. "Oui its so hard to look these days." "Thank God I'm only 29" at least i look it..thats the important thing.(laughs) She checked herself in the mirror, grabbed her coat and left her room. She made her way downstairs and headed towards Maxwell's office to tell him of her plans for the day. She figured since the kids were in school, she would spend some time with her mother. "Mr. Sheffield?" Are ya busy?" Fran wondered as she entered his office. Maxwell looked up from his work to see Fran standing infront of his desk "looking better than ever" Maxwell thought to himself. "I was just letting you know I'm going to Ma's and then a movie..would you um..like to join us Mr.Sheffield? "Oh Miss Fine that's very generous of you but I have quite a bit of work to do..new play and all. As he spoke Maxwell looked tired and distracted with so many things. But the one thing that was still bright in both their minds was the night in Paris where they shared a very passionate romantic kiss under a bright moonlight sky. They had hoped by going back to their regular routines that it would simply slip their minds. But it was obvious that it was still fresh in their minds. Fran began to turn away and leave for her mother's, as she left, she turned to Maxwell and sighed. She loved him so much but something was holding them back from Destiny. "Oh Miss Fine..leaving for your mother's?" Niles asked as he continued to clean the living room."Yeah I figured spending a day with Ma won't be so bad..I just hope she doesn't get hungry..I'd go bankrupt(laughs) "Miss Fine did Mr. Sheffield even mention Paris?"
"No,oh Niles what am i gonna do?" I mean I really want us to be together but something always stands in our way.."Well Miss fine I"m sure he'll come around, just give him some time. Niles looked at Fran with all the assurance he had. "I hope so"..cya later Niles..and with that Fran left for her mother's. Fran took a taxi to her mother's and arrived at her apartment in a short time. "Ma? I'm here..Are ya ready?" Fran yelled as she entered the living room. "Be right there darling, just a fixing a snack..for your father. "All right ma but hurry up I only got a few hours." "Hello sweetheart" Sylvia said lovingly. "Hey ma, Fran said.."ready?" "Wait a minute..whats that smell? "Its my sandwich darling.."Ma! you can't take that into the movie..you'll clear a room!" Fran said obviously irritated. "I need my nourishment..its protein"! "Oui..if i had a nickel for every time you said that..I thought it was for Daddy.."Oh your father wasn't hungry so I couldn't let it go to waste. "Oh nevermind lets go," Fran said and with that they were off to the movies. Fran and Sylvia made their way to the taxi and got inside."Where to ladies?" asked the driver. "Broadway please..Star Movie Theater" Fran said. As Fran and Sylvia sat in the cab the conversation slowly moved to Maxwell. "Sweetheart, you're in your thirties, ya can't wait around for him forever. "I Know Ma, but i Know that we can make it work if he would just admit he loves me." "Oh ma, i just can't give up" Fran said obviously upset. "But sweetheart hes playing with your emotions, its not right. "Yeah I guess your right Ma. Fran seemed to accept her mother's words. What if it just wasn't meant to be? Fran couldn't even imagine her life without the kids, they were her life. But how long could she wait for Maxwell to come around? Later that afternoon Fran returned from the movies to find Gracie, Maggie, and Brighton doing their homework. "Hey Fran" all three echoed.."Hi kids, how was school?" Fran responded. "Oh the usual, homework to last us for the next ten years..Brighton said jokingly.."Oh, Fran Dad wants to talk to you..Maggie stated. "Really? Uh oh, what did i do now?" Fran seemed concerned. "Oh well..here goes nothing i guess" She thought to herself. "Good luck Fran, Gracie said. With that Fran made her way to Maxwell's office and when she opened the door her heart almost skipped a beat. Maxwell's office had been decorated with bright candles and an intimate dinner table for two. "Mr. Sheffield..I don't know what to say" Fran's eyes began to well up with tears. She knew and felt in her heart that the time had finally come. "Fran..please..sit down." Maxwell sat next to her and looked deep into her eyes, there lips almost touching. "Fran, you mean so much to me and the children, you have my heart and my soul. Just then there was a knock at the door and there was Niles with a dinner tray for two and soft music playing on a portable stereo. Niles leaned over to Fran and whispered "Go get em' tiger." Niles shut the office door and once again the two were alone. "Why don't we have a little dinner?" Maxwell suggested. "Whatever you want Maxwell Sheffield." Fran responded lovingly. They both got up and sat outside under a starlit sky with a bright moon. "Oh Max, this is amazing, you mean so much to me and the kids are my life. I love you with all of my heart.Maxwell. He slowly got up carrying what seemed to be a square velvet box. He opened it up and exposed a beautiful diamond engagement ring. "Fran Fine, the love of my life, my darling will you marry me?" "Oh Max..yes I will marry you!!! "Wait till ma hears this!" she thought to herself. There lips met in the most passionate kiss they have ever felt since that night in Paris under the brightly lit sky. He carried her into the office and softly laid her on the couch. Together their bodies became one as their love for each other finally came to the surface. Feelings can turn to love.
