Maxwell Sheffield woke up after a terrible night’s sleep. Before he went to bed his wife She and his wife Sara had an intense argument. He had been working late at the theatre and Sara was sick of it. There were objects being thrown and veins popping out of necks. The madness finally ended when they both collapsed on the bed. As Max got up and began to get ready for the day he thought of how he would apologize to Sara. They had thought before but never to this extent. After much thinking, he decided to give her what she wanted. True, his partner C.C. would be furious but pleasing wife was more important to him than his work. As he was about to leave the room he noticed that Sara was still sleeping. Usually, she would be up by now. Gently, he went over to her. “Darling, wake up.” No response. “Sweetheart, its time to get help Niles get the kids ready for school.” Still, she would not move. He tried tapping her, blowing in her ear, and shaking her. Then he realized her breathing was abnormal. “Niles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he screamed. “Call an ambulance, now!!!!!!!”

Once the ambulance arrived everything started to flash before Max’s eyes. He couldn’t believe this was happening. His beautiful wife could possibly be dying. They had spent so many years together. He thought back to the day they first met. He was sitting on a bench in Central Park going over the script for his newest production, when suddenly he looked up and saw this gorgeous dirty blonde walking passed him. Max could not take his eyes off of this woman. He just had to go over and talk to her. “Hello,” he said, “I’m Maxwell.” “ I’m Sara.” She was even more beautiful up close! The two began talking and even exchanged phone numbers. It took him awhile to get up the courage to ask her out, but he was lucky that he did. She wound up being the woman of his dreams and the person who he would spend all eternity with. He couldn’t bare to think that this could all be over. When they arrived at the hospital, Max was directed towards the waiting room. And so, the waiting began.

It seemed like hours that he was sitting in the waiting room. What could be wrong with Sara? Finally, the doctor came out to talk to him. “Mr. Sheffield, I’m sorry. Your wife suffered a severe heart attack in her sleep last night. We tried to revive her heart, but it was too weak. She passed away during surgery. Once again, Mr. Sheffield, I am truly sorry.” Max could not believe what he was hearing. Without realizing it, he broke down in tears. “Why, he screamed, “why now, why Sara!”

Maxwell entered the Sheffield home with a defeated look on his face. Everyone was sitting in the living room. Niles was the first person to approach him. “So, how is she?” Without even saying a word Max broke down in tears. Niles, along with his two eldest children Maggie and Brighton, got the message immediately. The only person who did not understand what was going on was Max’s youngest child, Gracie. She was only just a toddler. It would be a few days before she would realize that Mommy was gone for good.

Life for Maxwell Sheffield would never be the same until 5 years later, when another woman would enter his life.
