Flashback:

Max is working with C.C. in his office when Fran enters:

Fran: Hi Miss Babcock, hi sweetie...

Max: Hello darling. Oh you’re bringing me a sandwich? You can read my

mind...

Fran: Yes... (takes a seat on the edge of his desk and gives him a kiss)

Max: You’re coming at the right moment. I have no more work to do,

today.

Fran: Really?

Max: Yes, all finished up. What do you wanna do?

Fran: Let’s see...(starts thinking)

Max: What about a picnic in Central Park with the kids?

Fran: That sounds wonderful! I’m going to ask ‘em. I’m back in a minute.

She leaves the office and the phone start ringing....

Max: Hello?

Maggie: Hi daddy, this is Maggie.

Max: Hello, sweetheart. How are you? Where are you calling from?

Maggie: I’m fine, thanks. I’m here in L.A. Michael has still some work to

do in Phoenix and I decided to leave earlier.

Max: That’s wonderful. What are you doing this afternoon? Wanna make a

picnic with me, Fran and your sisters and brothers?

Maggie: Sounds lovely. But I have to come later, I have to do some shopping

for me and Michael. Oh, I nearly forgot the real reason why I called... But

before I get into this, please make sure that Fran’s in the near to hear

these good news.

Max: Okay, sweetheart, just wait a moment...

Max leaves and asks Fran to come back into his office...

Fran: Sweetie, what’s the matter?

Max: Maggie’s on the phone. She’s back in L.A. and wants to tell us some

good news...

Fran: My baby’s back in L.A.? (presses the button for the speaker) Hi

honey, how are you?

Maggie: Hi Fran. I’m so happy to be back. Now, just sit down. Is Daddy

there, too?

Fran: He’s sitting on his chair. So, tell us, what the matter is...

Maggie: Okay, Daddy, Fran.... I’m pregnant.

Fran: Oh my god, that wonderful! I’m so happy for the both of ya.

Max: My little daughter becomes a mother... Does Michael already know?

Maggie: I told him before I left Phoenix.

Fran: Oh, sweetie... Well, we can talk about that during the picnic, all

right? I have to call Ma. I love you (sends kisses through the phone)

Maggie: I love you, too. See you later.

Max: Bye.

Fran: Oh my god, my baby gets a baby. We have to celebrate that... I’ll

prepare a huge picnic. See you later. (gives him a kiss)

Now, nine month later.... In the middle of the night.... The phone

rings.....

Max: Hello?

Michael: This is Michael... Dad, I wanted to let you know that Maggie is in

labor since three hours and will deliver soon...

Max: What? Okay, Fran and I will come.

Michael: You don’t have to. We’ve got everything under control. Everything’s

going perfect.

Max: Are you kidding? This is the birth of our grandchild... Give us half an

hour, (looks to Fran who sleeps) better, one hour.... (hangs in) [to Fran]

Fran, wake up!

Fran: Sweetie, it’s in the middle of the night.

Max: Fran, wake up! Michael called. Maggie’s in labor.

Fran: What? My baby’s in labor? That’s wonderful!

Max: I told him, we’d come to the hospital....

After hearing that, Fran hurries to get dressed... After an hour, they

arrive at Cedars....

Fran: Hi, Michael. (they give each other a hug)

Michael: Hi Fran.

Max: Is Maggie okay?

Michael: Yes, everything goes fine. I already saw the head.

Max: Maggie’s strong, she’ll make it.

Michael: I think, I better go back to her. I just wanted to look if you’re

already there. Just get a seat and I’ll come when the baby’s here.

Fran: Okay. Send her some greetings. Tell her that we think of her.

Michael: I’ll do that...

He goes back to Maggie... Fran and Maxwell get a seat in the waiting room...

Meanwhile , Maggie gets exhausted....

Maggie: Doc, I can’t any longer....

Doc: Come on, two more pushes and it’s done.

Maggie: I can’t....

Suddenly Sara appears in the room to give some strength to Maggie.... No one

but Maggie can see her....

Sara: Maggie, darling, exert yourself!

Maggie: Mom?

Sara: Come on, you’ll make it. On more push and it will be over!

Maggie: I can’t...

Sara: You can....

Meanwhile Michael came in ...

Michael: [to nurse] Who’s she talking to?

Nurse: I don’t know.

Doctor: Okay, push!

Sara: You heard, darling, push!!! (Maggie pushes)

Doctor: Well done, Maggie... You’ve got a daughter...(gives Maggie the baby)

Sara: She’s gorgeous...

Michael: Oh, sweetie, she’s wonderful... you’re wonderful.

Maggie: I love you.... (looks around and sees that Sara’s gone)

Michael: I’ll get your parents... (goes into the waiting room)

[to Fran&Max] The baby’s there...

Max: How is Maggie and how’s the baby? What gender is it?

Michael: They’re fine and it’s a little girl...

Fran: I’m so happy for ya. Congratulations.... (hugs him)

Max: Yes, congratulations...

Michael: I think, you wanna see them... (they nod their heads) Along

here....

In the room....

Fran: Hi Maggie. Congratulations... Lemme see her... (Maggie lays the girl

into Fran’s arms) Oh, she’s beautiful...

Max: That’s true... How will you name her?

Maggie: Michael, what do you think, if we name her Sara? (she looks to Max

and smiles)

Michael: That’s a lovely name...

Max and Fran rest a while at the hospital and then they turn home.....

In the evening, they sit on the couch in the living room... While Max

watches TV, Fran leans on his chest and reads a book.... Max breaks the

silence...

Max: How does it feel being a grandmother?

Fran: It makes me feel proud. Proud of my life and proud of our daughter...

And how does it feel to be a grandfather?

Max: To be honest, I feel a bit old...

Fran: Oh, Maxwell, you don’t have to... (gives him a kiss)

Max: Franny, the Granny. Sounds good, eh?

Fran: Wonderful, Grandpa!

They smile at each other and share another kiss.....
