In the morning, the whole family Sheffield takes its breakfast in the dining room. Fran leaves the room for swaddling Jonah Samuel.

Grace: Daddy, can I go to the "Laconic" concert on Saturday?
Max: Where and what time will it be?
Grace: Mmm, it’ll starts at 7pm in Downtown, L.A. But I wanna be there earlier for getting a good place.
Max: Do you want to say you wanna spend the night on the street?
Grace: Oh c’mon, all of my friends will be there.
Max: But not you!
Grace: Daddy, please....
Max: I said no and I’m not gonna change my mind!!
Grace: You’re so unfair. I hate you.

(Grace runs out of the room while Fran’s coming back from upstairs)

Fran: Max, I think we have a little problem.
Max: Yeah, we should have send her to a boarding school.
Fran: Why what’s wrong with her?
Max: I’ll tell you later. What’s the problem?
Fran: While swaddling Jonah, I found a bad rash on his stomach. When I touched he started cryin’.
Max: Is that a kind of allergic reaction?
Fran: I don’t think so. Never had this before. Eve either. I think we’ll should go to the doctor.
Max: Alright, Niles, please call the doctor and make an appointment.
Niles: I’ll do so, Sir.

At the hospital:
Fran and Max are waiting in an examination room for the doctor:

Fran: So, what happened this morning while I’ve been upstairs?
Max: Nothing. Grace wanted to go for a concert and I forbid.
Fran: Why. I can’t see a reason against.
Max: Really? She wanted to camp the whole night in front of the concert hall with her friends.
Fran: Well, that’s a reason.

The doctor enters.

Doc: Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield?
Max: Yes, good morning.
Doc: I’m Doctor Harris. Where’s the little patient?
Fran: Here, he is. (gives him Jonah)
Doc: Okay. Uh, that’s a bad rash. I’ll make some tests. Please, would you wait at the reception?
Fran: But doctor, can’t I stay ?
Max: C’mon darling. He’s in best hands.
Doc: Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.

After an hour, the doctor finally comes with the results of the tests.

Fran: Oh doctor, how is he? And...where is he?
Doc: I’ve got the results and I have to tell you that your son suffers from an inner bleeding. He has to stay here so that we can operate.
Fran: But how can that be? Lemme to him.(crying)
Doc: We guess the cause for that is a burst vein in his milt. It’s very dangerous for his life.
Fran: (starts crying) Oh, no. That can’t be true......
Max: Are you sure? We want a second opinion.
Doc: I already consulted a surgeon and he’s the same opinion. I feel very sorry for you. The important is that your son gets under surgery as soon as he can, so that we can get him out of danger.
Fran: Oh my god, that can’t be true. Can I see him?
Doc: Sure, if you want you can rest at his bed. In the late afternoon we want to prepare him for the operation. We’ll have him here over night, too.
Fran: (crying) Oh, Max. What if he doesn’t get well? I don’t want him to die.
Max: Sweetie, you have to think positive. Let’s hope the best. Come, go to him. I’m coming afterwards. I’ll ask Niles for packing some things for us.

(Fran follows the doctor to Jonah while Max’s callin’ Niles)

In the afternoon:
Niles and Gracie arrive at the hospital bringing some clothes for Max and Fran:

Grace: Is it true that Jonah has to undergo a surgery?
Max: Yes Gracie, it’s true. (to the doctor) Doctor, can my wife and I get a bed into this room?
Doctor: Of course, sir. I’ll be ordering that in a minute. Please, would you leave the room? We want to prepare him for the surgery.
Max: Come Fran, we’ll wait outside.
Fran: I love ya. (kissing Jonah on his forehead)

They leave the room. The operation starts and the whole family’s in the waiting room, now. Maxwell leaves for getting some coffee. Niles returned home for looking after Eve with Sylvia.

Grace: Fran, can I ask you something?
Fran: Sure baby. Ev’rything.
Grace: I wanna go for a concert...
Fran: Honey, your father already told me and I also won’t allow. It’s too dangerous in Downtown for camping on the streets.
Grace: But Fran, all of my friends will go. Why can’t you understand. You’ve been in my age.
Fran: Gracie, no. And I don’t care if you friends will go. Your friends aren’t my daughter. You’ll not go and now give it up.
Grace: You can’t tell me what to do or not. You’re not my mother!!!!

(she runs away)

Fran wants to run after her but when she stands up, she collapses.
Now she is in Jonah’s room where she lays in the bed that that Maxwell ordered an hour ago. A nurse gave her some tranquilizer.

Now, Maxwell arrives........

Max: Darling, you scared me to death. What things are you doing?
Fran: Oh, Maxwell. Don’t know. I can only remember that I wanted to follow Gracie. God, you have to search her. She left the hospital in a very angry mood. I hope she isn’t doing anything wrong. Please, search her.
Max: What happened? Why was she so angry?
Fran: She tried to persuade me to let her go for concert. But I didn’t allowed so she said I can’t tell her what to do or not ‘cause I’m not her mother.
Max: But you are. I’m so sorry that you had to hear that. I know you adore her.
Fran: It’s okay. She wasn’t serious. I remember saying this to my mother when I was young and not allowed to do something I wanted to. I hope that nothing happened to her. Would ya search her?

Max: Okay, I’ll do. (going to the door and turns ‘round) You’re okay?
Fran: I’m fine, thanks. I just worry ‘bout Jonah and now Gracie, too.
Max: Okay, please call on the mobile phone if something’s changing. I love you.
Fran: I love you, too.

Maxwell leaves the hospital for searchin’ Gracie. Some minutes after, the doctor arrives at Fran’s room. Who sleeps a bit ‘cause of the tranquilizer.......

Doc: Mrs. Sheffield? Please, wake up.
Fran: Doctor, what’s up. Went the surgery well? Is he alright?
Doc: The operation went quite well. He’s out of the woods. But the next hours will be important.
Fran: Can I see him?
Doc: Sure, he’s still under narcosis but a nurse will bring him right here so that he can wake up near you.
Fran: Oh, thank you. Doctor, I can’t tell ya how glad I am. Thank you very much.

A nurse brings Jonah to Fran....

.......Meanwhile, Maxwell is still searching for Gracie. He drives to Downtown where the concert is, tomorrow. But she isn’t there. So, he drives ‘long the beach where he can find her.....

Max: Well, here are you. You have to know I’m really disappointed over you. You know, Fran has been ever there for you. And how do you thank? Now, she really needs us and you treat her like this. She has enough to worry ‘bout.
Grace: I’m sorry but you’re not understanding. Don’t you know how important that is for me being in that concert?
Max: We can understand. We were young, too. But you’re important to us that’s why we don’t allowed. We know what’s up on those concerts. Sex, drugs and .... you know what I wanna say, don’t you?
Grace: But don’t you think I have to make my own experiences?
Max: Yes, true but we just want to protect you from doing anything wrong. You’re in an age where you often can’t distinguish between right and wrong. That’s why we want to help ya with telling you. Believe me, in some years when you have your own children you’ll understand.
Grace: Do you think, Fran’s very angry with me? I’m so sorry. I didn’t wanted to say that she’s not my mother. She has always been one for me.
Max: So, why don’t you tell her. She needs to hear that, now.

Maxwell’s phone rings.....

Max: Hello?
Fran: Sweetie, it’s me. You have to come. News from Gracie?
Grace: Who’s this?
Max: It’s Fran. (to Fran) Darling, what’s up? You sound upset.
Fran: Jonah’s out of the woods. They only said that the next hours will be important.
Max: I’m coming right now. I found Gracie and she’s alright. See ya. (hangs in)
Grace: How is Jonah?
Max: He’s okay. I’ll tell you on the way to the hospital. Everything alright, now? Can you now understand why we did that?
Grace: Yes, I can. Thank you daddy. I love you.
Max: I love you, too Baby. C’mon, we go to Fran and Jonah.

They’re going to the hospital where Fran’s waitin’ in the room with Jonah in her arms who’s still sleepin’.

Max: Hello darling. And... how is he?
Fran: Look by yourself- he’s sleeping quietly. (gives Jonah to Maxwell, then to Grace) Oh, Gracie. I’m so glad that you’re alrigh’. I worried ‘bout ya.
Max: I’m leaving you alone, I think Grace wanna tell you something.
(leaves the room and goes a bit up and down the floor with Jonah in his arms)
Fran: C’me here, sweetheart. Sit next to me (Grace seats on the bed right next to her) What do you wanna tell me? (passes her hand over Grace’s hair)
Grace: Fran..... I wanna apologize according to that I said to you. I didn’t want to and I’ll never do it again. I mean, you’ve been ever like a real mom to me and I wanna thank ya for that. You’ve been always there for me and you’ve made ever fair decisions that were important in my life. Didn’t want to hurt you. I understand now, why you and daddy forbid me to go for that concert. Please, forgive me.
Fran: Oh, Gracie (hugs her). I forgive you and I love ya. I know how you’re feelin’. I was in your age and believe, I ever hated my Ma when she forbid me something but now, I understand why she did. She loved me and never wanted anything bad happen to me and I’m feelin’ this way ‘cause I’m a mother, too. And I tell ya, having a daughter like you is the best that could happen to a mother.
Grace: I love you, too. So, what about Jonah? Can we take him home?
Fran: I guess tomorrow, if ev’rything’s goin’ righ’ this night. Would you fetch your daddy?
Grace: I’ll do and Fran.....
Fran: Yeah?
Grace: Thanks for being the best mother in the world.

Grace leaves the room and Maxwell reenters.

Max: Well, I think he starts opening his eyes.
Fran: Oh, really? Lemme see. (Max gives her the boy) Really. Oh, I’m so glad.
Max: It’s a miracle. Hey, my son. You’ll become well. (passes his hand over head)
Fran: Oh, Max. I was so scared. Thanks for being there when I need ya.
Max: I please you. I love you ‘bout ev’rything and that’s why I married you. You’ve been ever there for me so.......
Fran: I love you, too. (yawning) I’m so tired. Wha’ about you?
Max: Well, we had a hard day.
Fran: Why don’t ya go home with Gracie. I’m managing. Don’t forget we’ve two more children.
Max: You’re right. Okay, I’m back in the early morning. Maybe we can take him home, again. Good night, sweetie. Love ya.
Frau: I love ya, too. Good night. See ya tomorrow. (to Jonah) And we’ll fall finally asleep, righ’ honey?

Maxwell returns home with Grace where Sylvia, Niles and C.C. are already waitin’.

Next morning, Max picked Fran and Jonah up from the hospital and they finally arrive at home:

Max: Hi everybody. Look here who’s finally at home again.
Sylvia: Oh my god, my grandson’s alright. Hi sweetheart, hello Fran...
(hugs them and Fran lays Jonah into Sylvia’s arms)
Fran: Hi Ma. Nice to see ya. Where are the kids?
Niles: Welcome home, Mrs. Sheffield. The kids are upstairs in the room of the twins and lookin’ after Ms. Eve.
Fran: Hi Niles, thank ya. Do ya think ya coulda make me a sandwich? I tell ya, this hospital food is so bad.

They’re leavin’ the living room and go into the kitchen where Niles’s preparing some food for the whole mishpoche.
While this, Sylvia’s going upstairs for bringing Jonah into his bed.....

Now, the whole mishpoche is in the dining room for supper that Niles prepared with Fran. Meanwhile, Niles went home to C.C.

Grace: I’m so happy ev’rything had turned right... And Fran?
Fran: Yeah, honey?
Grace: I wanna tell you again, how sorry I am according to this I told you.
Fran: Already forgiven and forgotten. Love ya. Oh, you know what guys? I’m so tired. Would you mind if I’d go upstairs for sleepin’?
Brighton: No, just go. We can understand this. Sleep well.
Max: I’m coming in a few minutes. I also didn’t slept the whole time.
Fran: Okay, sweetie. Thanks B. Good night. Night mommy (hugs her) Thanks for looking after the kids. See ya in the morning.

Fran leaves the room and goes upstairs. Max follows her after he finished dinner.
