I Hope So

Fran Fine was just leaving Empire Beauty School and trying to catch a cab to get back to her parent’s apartment. After trying relentlessly for 10 minutes, she gave up and decided to start walking. “A little walking will do me good.” She thought to herself.

As she started walking she saw the most gorgeous man she had ever seen in her 20 years of life. He looked a bit disheveled as he was looking through a stack of papers he had in his hand. When he found the paper he was apparently looking for, the rest of the papers all fell out of his grip and began to blow in the wind all over the street. Fran ran up and began to help him collect his papers. When they finally got most of the papers, she handed him her stack, “Hi, I think these belong to you.” Fran said with a laugh.

“That is such a voice!” The man thought as he grabbed the papers out of her hand. “Yes, they do. Thank you for helping me. I’m Maxwell Sheffield. And you are?” He said as he extended his free hand to shake hers.

“Oy! He’s handsome AND British?! That’s amazing.” Fran thought as she shook his hand. “You’re welcome! My name is Frannie Fine. That’s such a lovely accent you have! What are you doing here in New York?”

“Oh, I used to produce plays in England, so I came here to get on Broadway.”

“You’re a Broadway Producer? That’s so exciting!” Fran replied.

“Yes, yes it is,” Max laughed, “You know, I’d really like it if you joined me for lunch, since you helped me pick up my contracts. Are you busy?” He secretly just wanted to get to know her better, and what a better excuse.

“He’s asking me to lunch?! This is incredible!” she thought. “No, I’m not doing anything; I’d love to join you!”

“Well then let’s go!” Max said and they left to find a place to eat lunch.

The two found a quaint little diner near Central Park. The sat down for a couple of hours just laughing and talking like two people who have known each other for years. Max was completely infatuated with this woman who was so different from anything he’d ever seen before. He wanted to know everything about this woman. He wanted to be with her even though he’d only known her for a few hours. Fran felt similar to his feelings. He was everything she was looking for. Everything her mother had ever wanted for her, too.

“I’m having a really great time, and I hate to say this, but I gotta get home.” Fran said.

“Oh, I see. Well, I’d really like to see you again. How about dinner tomorrow night? Are you free?” Max asked, hoping that she had nothing else to do.

“Free as a bird! I’d love to go out with you.” Fran replied with the gorgeous smile that Max had already fallen in love with.

“That’s wonderful! How about I pick you up at 7:30? Where do you live?”

Fran asked the waitress that brought them their bill for a pen and piece of paper. She wrote down her address and handed the paper to Max as he handed the waitress his card.

“Thank you so much for accompanying me to lunch. I’m looking forward to dinner tomorrow.” Max said as the two got up from the booth and began walking out the door.

“Thanks for inviting me! It was fun. I’ll see you tomorrow!” Fran said as she gave him a hug. The electricity they both felt at their embrace made them both a little weak.

“See you tomorrow.” Max said as he helped her get into a cab.

As soon as the door closed, Fran let out a breath that she didn’t know she was holding in. She gave the cab driver her address and they made their way to Queens. The entire time she couldn’t stop thinking about Max, “Oh my gosh, he’s absolutely amazing. He was such a gentleman and we got along so well! Oh! What am I gonna wear tomorrow night?”

The cab pulled up to the front of her parents’ apartment. She couldn’t wait until she got her beauty license and open up her own salon and finally move out of that apartment. She loved her parents, but she needed to get out on her own.

Fran walked up the stairs and into her apartment to find her mother sitting on the couch eating a chicken leg.

“Frannie! Where were you? You’re usually home hours ago!” Sylvia said as she took another bite.

“Sorry Ma, but you’re going to love my reason for being late!” Fran exclaimed taking a seat next to her mother on the couch.

“What happened?”

“Oh Ma, it was wonderful! I was walking home from class, and this gorgeous man needed help, so I helped him. Then he invited me to lunch and we talked for hours! He’s absolutely amazing! He’s taking me to dinner tomorrow night!” Fran began to blush a little.

“Frannie, that’s wonderful! Is he Jewish? A doctor? A lawyer!?” Sylvia said setting down her empty plate on the table.

“Well, he isn’t Jewish, but he is a successful Broadway producer!” Fran said.

“Broadway? So he’s rich? That’s even betta!”

“I know ma, but I really don’t care. He’s so wonderful, that even if he wasn’t rich, I’d still be just as thrilled. It’s the way he treated me with such respect. I’ve never experienced that before. He is truly a gentleman.”

“Oy, you barely know him! But this is good that you feel this way! You haven’t really been serious with anyone since Danny, and you need to move on from that.” Sylvia said as Fran got off of the couch.

“Ma, I AM over that. I have been since it ended. He was a horrible person. He used me, and treated me like he owned me and that he was doing me a favor by dating me. That’s not the type of person I like,” Fran said, “Anyways, I need to go and figure out what I’m going to wear to dinner tomorrow night!” trying to get off the topic of her ex-boyfriend.

“Alright sweetheart.” Sylvia said as Fran kissed the top of her head and headed off to her bedroom.

The hours went by slowly for Fran the next day. Her classes seemed to drone on and on. Finally, it was time to start getting ready. She hopped in the shower, washed her hair with her favorite scented shampoo and conditioner. It took her a few minutes to decide on which body wash she wanted to use. She wanted everything to be perfect, so she picked out one that went really well with a perfume she had. She got out of the shower and put on her robe. As she exited the bathroom, Sylvia was just about to go into her bedroom.

“Oh, sweetheart, are you getting ready for that date tonight?” Sylvia asked, obviously knowing the answer.

“Yeah Ma. I am about to go start my hair.”

“So when are we gonna get to meet this amazing, gorgeous, wonderful man, hm?” Sylvia asked with a grin on her face.

“Ma, it’s like our first date. Give it awhile!” Fran said, walking into her bedroom.

She spent a few minutes trying to decide what she wanted to do with her hair. She decided to leave it down, with a few loose curls. After finishing her hair, she put on her make-up and checked the time. It was 7:15, so she put on her dress and shoes. As she was finishing with the strap on her high heel, she heard the doorbell ring. She left her room to try to get to the door before her mother, but upon entering the living room, she saw her answering the door.

“Hello, I’m Maxwell Sheffield. It’s a pleasure to meet you. You must be Fran’s mother?” Max said, reaching to shake her hand.

“Hi Max, I’m Sylvia. It’s nice to meet you to. Fran has said a lot about you.” Sylvia said smiling. “Please, come in.”

Max walked through the door and saw Fran standing in the living room. He couldn’t stop staring at her. She looked absolutely gorgeous.

“Hello Fran. You look amazing.” Max said as he took her hand and kissed the back of it.

The feel of his lips against her made her go weak in the knees, “Hey Max, you look handsome yourself!”

Sylvia just stood and stared at the two. The way that man looked at her daughter, she knew that look. And her daughter was giving him the same look.

“Well, are you ready to go?” Max asked.

“Yeah! By Ma!” She said, giving her mother a kiss on the cheek and they walked out the door.

Max and Fran walked down the stairs and went outside. Fran saw a limo out front and knew that it was for them, “A limo?”

“Yes, I hope you don’t mind. I just want to make this evening wonderful.” Max said looking at Fran apprehensively.

“No, I don’t mind at all. I’ve never been in a limo!” Max saw the way her face lit up.

A man got out of the driver’s seat and went to open the door for the couple, “This is Niles, he’s my butler.” Max said put his hand on Niles’ shoulder.

“Hi Niles! It’s nice to meet you! I’m Frannie Fine.” She said, shaking his hand.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Fine.” Niles’ replied. In the few seconds of knowing her, he could tell she was different from the other women his employer dated. He liked her. She was unique.

Their date was absolutely wonderful. Fran had never had a date quite like that. The two had gotten to know each other even more. Max loved listening to the stories she told about her family and how animated she got when telling them. Their families were definitely different.

The pulled up to her apartment and Niles opened up the door to let them out. Max and Fran walked hand in hand into her apartment building and up the stairs. When they reached her front door, neither of them wanted the night to end.

“Thanks so much for taking me out tonight. I’ve never been on a date like this. It was wonderful.” Fran said, turning towards Max.

“I had a wonderful time too. I’d love to see you again.” Max said.

“We definitely need to get together again. I had a great time.” She said smiling.

Max decided he needed to kiss her tonight, “May I kiss you goodnight?” moving his head closer to hers.

“Absolutely.”

When their lips were a centimeter apart, he looked into her eyes, and he knew that she was the one. His lips graced hers, and that electric spark they felt when they hugged the previous day, came back with full intensity. The kiss became more passionate. Neither of them had been kissed like that before. Max realized that her parents could come out any minute, and even though he didn’t want to, he broke the kiss, “Goodnight, Fran.” He said trying to gain his composure back.

“Goodnight, Max,” she said, giving him a quick kiss on the lips before entering her apartment.

The both knew from the moment that this was something special.

The continued seeing each other as often as they could. They loved spending time together. They complimented each other. They had their arguments, but nothing ever lasted long. After a few months went by, Sylvia knew that her daughter was in love with the man she was going to marry.

One particular date was when Fran herself realized she was going to marry Max. After a romantic dinner, Max and Fran went for a walk. They began talking about everything that was going on. The topic came to Fran’s ex-boyfriend Danny. “He was just a jerk, you know? Like, everyone owed him something. It was just a hassle to have me as a girlfriend. I knew he cheated on me, but I stayed with him hoping that it would all change.” Fran said, opening up.

Max knew that Fran was holding something back, “But it didn’t change, did it?”

“No. It never did. All he ever wanted me for was for sex. And then…” she couldn’t continue.

“What happened, Fran, tell me.” The fact that someone had done something horrible to his Fran just gnawed at him. He needed to know what happened.

“I always tried getting him to use a condom, but he never did. I was just so scared that if I told him no, that he’d do it anyway, so I just said yes. Then one day, I found out I was pregnant. I’ve never been so scared in my life. I wanted this baby to be safe. It was my job as its mother to protect it.”

Max was shocked. He never heard anything about this, “What happened?”

“Well, I knew that I had to tell Danny. It was his child too. I thought that it might even get him to change and to stop sleeping around. But it didn’t.”

Fran began to softly cry. Max wiped her tears away and she continued. “When I told him, he was so angry. He said that I needed to get rid of it.” The tears were flowing freely and she began to sob, “But I didn’t want to. I couldn’t have an abortion. Even if he was the father, I still wanted the baby. I already began loving it.” Max’s heart was breaking. He loved this woman so much and to know that she went through so much pain just killed him. “I told him that I was going to keep the baby. He began screaming at me saying that if I don’t have a doctor do the abortion, that he’d do it himself.” Max’s grip on Fran was tightening.

“Fran, I’m so sorry. That is horrible. You didn’t deserve to have to go through that.” He said, knowing nothing he said was going to change anything.

“I know, but I still did. I had the abortion, and he left me a few days later because I couldn’t cope. I’ve still never forgiven myself. I should have just left him right there, but I didn’t.”

“Because you were scared. You didn’t know what else to do. You had nothing else to do.” Max said, trying his best to comfort her.

He just held her as she cried for awhile. He knew she had to get it out, and his was the shoulder to cry on. He would kiss her head and tell her that everything is alright. Finally she was able to stop crying, “Thank you, Max. For being here. I’ve never told anyone that story. Not even my mother. It feels good to get it out.” She said, kissing him slightly on the lips.

“Fran, I’ll always be here for you. I love you.” Max said.

“And I love you. It just sucks, ya know? Like, I’ve always been scared to death of having sex now. I just, couldn’t go through that again.”

“Not every guy is like that, Fran. If it were me, I would’ve been absolutely thrilled.” He said looking her in the eyes.

Fran began to cry again, “What’s the matter darling?” Max asked.

“I just wish it was you! I would’ve never had to have gone through all that!” she said.

“Darling, I know it’s hard, but you’ve just got to move on. Know that you’ll have a family someday with a man who loves you and loves every child you’ll have, and never put you through any of that pain.”

Fran looked up from his chest, “Is that man going to be you?”

“I hope so, Fran. I hope so.”

One day, after Max and Fran had been dating for 8 months, Fran was at beauty school and Max came by the apartment.

“I’m sorry Max, Fran isn’t here. I’ll tell her you came by though.” Sylvia said when she answered the door.

“Oh, no, Mrs. Fine, I came here to see you. I need to ask for your help.” Max said. He filled her in on his surprise for Fran.

Max left shortly before Fran was due to arrive home. She knew something was up when she saw the look on her mother’s face, but decided not to ask her what was going on.

The morning Fran woke up and got out of bed. She noticed her suitcase was packed and a note on top of it that read, “Pack anything else you’ll need for 7 days in 80 degree weather. Be outside at 9:00” There was no name, no anything. She went out into the kitchen where her mother was eating at the kitchen table.

“Good morning, Frannie. Did you sleep well?” Sylvia asked stuffing a forkful of waffles into her mouth.

“Ma, what’s going on? Why do is my suitcase packed with a note that doesn’t say who it’s from?” Fran asked, knowing her mother had to know what was going on.

“I don’t know Franala, but you’d better do what it says.”

“So you’re going to play innocent? Like you don’t know what’s going on? Fine, I’ll just do it.” Fran said, walking back to her room, defeated.

She packed all of the things she’d need that wasn’t already packed. She hopped in the shower and got ready. She grabbed her suitcase, kissed her parents goodbye and went outside. She saw Niles leaning against the limo waiting for her.

“I shoulda known it had something to do with Max!” she said handing Niles her suitcase, “Hiya Niles! What do you know about all of this?” She asked.

“Ms. Fine, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He said, giving her a wink. He opened the door and she climbed inside.

They made their way to JFK airport where Niles handed her a ticket, “Well Miss. Fine, this is where I leave you.”

“Niles, tell me what you know!” but Niles just smiled and hugged her goodbye.

Fran made her way to the ticket counter to check her bags in. The attendant scanned her ticket and said, “Oh, I was given instructions to give you this.” And she handed Fran a single long-stemmed rose with a note attached that read, “I love you.” And nothing else. Fran smiled and thanked the woman at the desk. Fran made her way through security and made it just in time that they were starting to board first class passengers. She went up to the counter and handed the man her ticket. He scanned it and said, “Sorry m’am. There seems to be a problem, could you wait over here until we load all passengers?”

“What do you mean there is a problem? There shouldn’t be!” Fran said beginning to get frantic.

“Please just step over here and we’ll get this solved after all passengers are on the plane.”

“Fine.” Fran said walking over to where the man gestured.

After everyone was loaded, the same man came over to her holding a long-stemmed rose with another note. He handed it to her and she smile as she read, “Come with me to paradise.” She grabbed her carrying on bag and boarded the plane. When she passed the first row in first class, everyone handed her a long-stemmed rose each. Then the next row, and the next, until finally she came to her seat where she saw Maxwell waiting with another rose. He stood up, handed her the rose, kissed her, and said, “Thank you for coming.” With a smile.

Fran didn’t really know what to say. All she could think of was how amazing the man in front of her was. “What is all of this? This is amazing?”

“Well it’s an amazing thing for an amazing woman. I’m taking you on a vacation to the Caribbean.”

“Whaaa? That’s wonderful! Thank you!” she said as she kissed him and they sat down in their seats.

The trip was long, but the spent the entire time talking to each other, holding hands, and kissing. The plane touched down and they went to pick up their luggage. After they got their luggage, they went and rented a car and drove to an amazing hotel. Fran was absolutely in shock at how beautiful the hotel was. She’d never been to such a fancy hotel. The checked in and it didn’t go unnoticed by Fran how they only had one room. She knew she was ready to take that step, and obviously he was too.

They made their way to their hotel room. Fran was taken aback. It was an enormous suite with a grand piano and a terrace that looked over the beautiful blue water. She walked out onto the terrace, “Max, this is so beautiful! Look at this view! Heck, look at this room!”

Max chuckled when he saw how excited she was. He went up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, “This is all for you. I want this time to be the best in your life.” He said, kissing her check.

“If I’m here with you, this will be the best time of my life.” Fran said, turning to face him.

She kissed his lips and thanked him. They made their way back inside

The unpacked their belongings and decided to go walk around before dinner. They went by a few shops where they bought something to bring back to her parents. They went back to the hotel and began getting ready to go to dinner.

When Fran finished getting ready, she walked out of the bathroom and saw Max looking extremely handsome in his black suit, looking for a tie. She came out, and picked out a tie that matched her dress and put it on for him.

“You look so beautiful, Fran.”

“You don’t look so bad yourself!” she said, giving him a kiss on the lips. “I’m starving! Let’s go to dinner.”

Max chuckled as they made their way to the restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. They went to the hostess and Max said, “Reservation for two, Sheffield.”

The hostess checked the reservation, smiled, and said, “Right this way Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield.” Fran laughed nervously and looked at Max who gave her a reassuring grin.

They sat down at the table and ordered from the menu. When their meal came, Fran was ecstatic at how wonderful everything tasted. Max couldn’t help but wonder how she ate so much and yet stayed so slim. After finishing off the dessert they ordered, Max asked Fran to dance. They made their way to the dance floor and held each other close. They moved to the rhythm of the music which was so calm. Fran laid her head against his chest and could hear his heart beat. “Boy, do I love that heart.” She thought to herself. The kissed each other at random times and Max held Fran as close as he could. Fran looked up at Max and stared deep into his eyes. She saw her life with that man. “Take me to our room.” She whispered just enough so that he could hear. They went back to the table and paid their bill and made their way to the elevator.

They reached their room and Max stared at Fran as he put the key in the door. They went inside and Max closed the door behind them. He went up to Fran and began kissing her with everything he had. She broke their kisses and said, “I love you, Maxwell.”

He leaned down and whispered into her ear, “I love you Fran, with everything that I am.”

Fran smiled and began taking his jacket off. He took his shoes off and she stepped out of her high heels. She set the jacket on the couch and then took his tie off. She started to unbutton his shirt as he reached for the zipper of her dress. She pulled his shirt of as he kissed her shoulders and moved the straps of her dress down her arms. The dress fell into a pile on the floor. He stared at her, and marveled in her beauty. She blushed a little when she saw where his gaze was. He looked up and smiled and kissed her. She undid his belt and undid the clasp on his pants, which joined her dress on the floor.

He grabbed her and kissed her so passionately as he lifted her up and made his way to the bed. He set her down in the middle and got on top of her. He began kissing her lips, moving to her neck and o her chest. He reached for the clasp of her bra and gently took it off. He looked at her for approval and he moved his lips down to her chest. He loved the feel of her body against his lips. He moved towards her bellybutton and kissed a heart around it. He went further down, stopping at where her lace underwear was. He looked up into her eyes and said, “Is there anything you don’t want me to do?”

She smiled and said, “No, I trust you.” And with that, he took off her underwear and did anything to please her. He then moved his way back up to her lips, his hands massaging the trail his lips followed.

“Max, make love to me.” She whispered as she grabbed his boxers and took them off.

After hours of making love, they were laying in each other’s arms. Max looked up at Fran, “I love you. Do you know that?”

“I do know that, you just proved it to me!” Fran said, with a small laugh.

“I cannot imagine my life without you. You mean so much to me; I’ve never felt this way.” Max said, reaching for something on the floor by the bed.

He sat Fran up, and presented a Princess Cut diamond ring, “Francine Joy Fine, will you stand by my side for the rest of our lives as my wife?”

“Oh my gosh! Max!” She screamed as she went to hug Max.

“Well?” Max said, laughing.

Fran let go of Max and looked him in the eyes, “Absolutely.”

They kissed with a whole new passion and continued to make love into the early morning.

Fran did not want to go home when the week was over. She was finishing packing and Max noticed her mood.

“Darling, we need to go home. Everything is there. Besides, you have to tell your parents that we’re getting married. You have to plan it too. Aren’t you looking forward to that?” Max said, trying to cheer her up.

“Well, yeah, but this was just the greatest time I’ve ever had. I’ll never forget any of this.” Fran said, reaching to kiss Max.

She finished packing and they were off to go back to New York.

As soon as Fran entered her apartment she saw her mom and dad on the couch.

“Sweetie, you’re back! How was your vacation honey?” Sylvia asked, getting up from the couch to hug Fran.

“Ma, it was absolutely wonderful! Max asked me to marry him!” showing her mother the ring.

“That’s amazing, sweetheart! Congratulations! How about you invite him over here for dinner so he can meet your daddy and your sister?”

“Okay. I’ll see if he can come tomorrow night.” Fran said, taking her suitcase to her room.

The next night, Fran went to Max’s house to pick him up for dinner and she brought him over to the apartment.

“Daddy, this is Max. Max, this is my daddy, Morty.” Fran said introducing the two men in her life.

“It’s nice to see you again, sir.” Max said.

“Yes, how’ve you been?” Morty asked.

“Wait, ‘nice to see you again’ ‘how’ve you been’? You guys have met before?” Fran asked.

“Well, before you went on vacation, Max came over here and asked me for my permission to ask you to marry him.” Morty said, smiling at his daughter.

“Whaaaa? Max, that’s absolutely amazing. That means so much to me, you have no idea!” Fran said.

The doorbell rang and Fran answered it. It was her sister Nadine, and her husband Barry.

“Frannie! Congratulations! Where is he at? Oh! Is he good-looking or what?” Nadine said, whispering the last part into her sister’s ear.

A few minutes into dinner, the doorbell rang again, “Ma, who else did you invite?” Fran asked.

“No one Frannie. I don’t know who it is.” Sylvia said.

Fran got up and went into the living room to answer the door. When she saw who was standing on the other side, she wanted nothing more than to hide in Max’s arms, “Frannie! Say it isn’t so! How can you be engaged?” Danny said.

“Danny!? What are you doing here?” Fran asked, wishing he would go away.

“I had to see you Frannie. I miss you and I can’t let you get married to some jerk.” He said, reaching out to Fran.

“Oh Danny, it’s nice to see you. Come in! We’re having dinner; I’ll fix you a plate!” Sylvia said, as she came into the living room.

When Danny entered the kitchen, Max saw the look on Fran’s face and knew that that guy was Danny. Danny looked at Max, then to Fran, then back to Max, “So you’re the guy that Frannie’s marrying?” Danny asked.

“Yes, I’m Maxwell Sheffield.” Max said as he stood up to shake his hand.

“Yeah, yeah.” Danny said, sitting down and grabbing a plate.

Fran was noticeably worried throughout the dinner. Max tried to keep the conversation away from anything that had to do with Danny.

“So Frannie, you were with Max for a whole week in the Caribbean? I guess it’s safe to say you aren’t a virgin anymore!” Nadine said.

“Nay!” Fran screamed.

“Wha? We just now know for sure! Come on Frannie? How old were you because I’m sure this wasn’t your first!” Nadine said, laughing.

“Nadine! It doesn’t matta!” Fran said.

“She was 17 when I took her virginity!” Danny said, with a wicked grin on his face.

Fran started choking on the tea she was drinking.

“Danny, you have no right to say things like that. If I want my family to know, I’ll tell them! It’s none of your business to go blurting it!” Fran said.

“What? I just think that your fiancй here should know everything about you!” Danny said.

“He DOES know everything. I’ve told him all of it!” Fran screamed.

“Oh yeah? Does he know about the time you got pregnant and got rid of it?” Danny said.

“I do, actually, but you failed to mention the part about you forcing her to have an abortion!” Max said, furious.

“I didn’t do no such thing!” Danny screamed back.

“Really? ‘You get it done by a doctor or I’ll do it myself’ doesn’t ring a bell?” Max yelled.

“You did what to my daughter?! Get your ass out of my house right now!” Morty screamed as Fran started crying and ran to her bedroom. Max went after her after he saw that Danny had left. He knocked softly on the door, “Fran, darling?” opening the door slightly.

He saw her curled up on her bed, shaking from crying so hard. He went and sat down by her and took her in his arms. She held on to him tightly, “Why did he have to be here? I was finally getting over it and he has to bring it up again? And now everyone knows, so it’s not like I can act like it never happened!” Fran sobbed into his chest.

“Fran, it’s okay. You’re the victim here. You did nothing wrong.” Max said soothing her.

“I know. I just wish that I didn’t have that abortion, and that I had the baby. I want a family so bad.” She said.

Max lifted her head up so that she could look at him, “I promise you, we can have as many children as you want.”

Fran smiled, “Even eleven?”

“Well, maybe not ALL the children you want.” Max said, with a chuckle and Fran laughed too.

He wiped away her tears and they just lay holding each other. After a few minutes there was a knock at the door, “Frannie? Are you okay sweetheart?” her mother’s voice asked through the door.

“Yeah Ma, I’m okay now. You can come in.” Fran answered.

Sylvia opened the door and saw Max holding Fran. She knew they were going to last.

“Look honey, I’m so sorry about what happened. I had no idea, and I never would have invited him in if I did.” Sylvia said, looking apologetically.

“It’s okay Ma. I never told you, so you wouldn’t have known. I’m tired so I think we’re just going to take a nap for a few minutes.” Fran said.

“Alright darling, I love you. And Max, thank you so much for everything.”

“You’re welcome, Sylvia.” Max said, smiling.

“Goodnight Ma.” Fran said as Sylvia shut the door.

“Francine, I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” Max whispered into her ear.

“And have eleven children!” Fran said laughing.

“You’re still on the eleven thing?” Max said laughing as they both drifted off to sleep.
