"Max, please, it will be for two weeks only." Fran said. "Fran, I will not have my wife working in a doughnut shop." Max said. "Val wants me to help her out a while, Max, it would be temporary." Fran said. "No, absolutley not!" Max said.

"But, honey!" Fran said. "Not another word about it, understand?" Max asked. "Yes." Fran said. "Call Val and tell her to find someone else." Max said. Fran had her fingers crossed and said she would call Val to let her know.

Fran was wanting something to do, she didn't like the clubs, she had tried it. They were all snooty to her, and she didn't fit in. Gracie hardly needed her, with school and after activities. Fran wanted something to keep her busy, the chance to work and spend time with Val was the chance Fran was looking for.

Fran went back to the bedroom to call val. Max had already been working in the office with CC. "Count me in, Val, Max said no, so I will need to be a little sneaky,ok?" Fran said. "Alright, Fran." Val said. "How are you going to pull this off?" Val asked. "I am not sure, but will think of something. "Fran said.

Fran didn't want to be sneaky, but Max wouldn't budge, and she was determined to do it. Fran thought of an idea. She would tell Max she would be helping out her mother with something for a while. "Sure, this would work, and I will tell Ma to not give me away to Max should he call.

The next day, Fran tells Max about it. "Alright, Fran, I suppose your mother will need you, as long as I can spend time with you each day." Max said. "Yes, Max, we will have time for us each day." Fran said. Fran was happy, she was going to get to do something fun the next two weeks.

The next day, it was time for her to begin at the doughnut shop. Fran made sure Val kept her uniform for her, she couldn't change at home into it. Niles knew what was going on, but Fran swore him to secrecy, well, he would spill to Max if pressed enough.

Fran's first day went well. She loved working, it gave her a feel of independance. Things were going well, Max had not a clue. Fran would check in with her mother, to make sure Max didn't call. "Everything is fine, Fran." Sylvia said.

At dinner the same night, Max was asking how Fran's day went. Fran almost spilled it herself, She covers. "Fran, you seem on edge tonight, is everything alright?" Max asked. Niles kept looking at Fran and it was making her nervous.

"Yes, everything is fine." Fran said. She was feeling a little guilty, but she couldn't tell Max, she knew he would ream her out, and she wouldn't hear the end of it. Niles enjoyed making Fran squirm about it. He had his ways of doing this.

Fran enjoys dinner, she had worked up quite an appetite. The same evening, Max wanted to make love, but Fran was tired. She had fallen asleep in no time. Max sensed something, but he didn't know exactly what it could be. Fran tossed and turned in her sleep and Max was a little concerned.

Fran ate a quick breakfast and headed to the doughnut shop. She was avoiding Max, partly out of guilt and partly out of not wanting him to find out anything. "Niles, do you know what is going on?" Max asked. "No, sir, maybe whatever she is doing with her mother is stressful." he said. Niles didn't want to betray his trust he has with Fran.

"Fran, don't feel guilty, you earn good money for a couple of weeks work, and you get to hang out with me." Val said. "Val, it isn't easy to do this, marriage is about trust, Max has drilled this into me, believe me." she said. "I don't like sneaking, I'd rather have his blessing on this." Fran said.

"Well, as long as Niles and your Mother keep this secret, you'll be fine." Val said. "Cheer up, have a doughnut."Val said. "Max will kill me if he finds out." Fran said. A short time later, CC walks in, she loves eating there, it is her favorite place for morning doughnuts and coffee.

Fran hid in the back. "Too close!" Fran thought. CC would tell on Fran in two seconds flat. Fortunately, CC had her oder to go, and Fran was releived. Fran remembered the last time she did something Max didn't like. "Oy." she said. He kept her busy with errands and things, and restricited her credit cards for a month, and he reamed her out for a solid hour about it.

The disapointment he expresses with Fran is the hardest thing to live with when he finds out something like this. Fran decided to go forward and not look back, the first week went well. She almost ran into CC again, another close call. "Damn, why can't she choose another place for coffee and doughnuts?" Fran asked to herself.

Max did ask Sylvia about things, but she covered for Fran. The next week rolled around, and Fran was having a tougher time keeping it a secret, she wasn't feeling guilty, but people Max knew came into the shop plenty. Val enjoyed having Fran's help. She was interviewing people for counter help. Val had her mind on interviewing, and wasn't watching when CC comes in again. Fran comes right out from the back, to serve some more food, and CC sees her!

"Oh, Maxwell will love this, nanny Fine!" she said. Fran dumped a whole tray of doughnuts on the floor, in her surprise with seeing CC. "I can't wait to tell him!" CC said. "Ms.Babcock, please don't tell him, it is only for the rest of the week." she said.

"Why should I do you this favor?" CC asked. "So I won't tell Max you were the one who messed up the business deal last month, for once, it wasn't me."Fran said.

"Oh, nanny Fine, are you blackmailing me?" CC asked. "If the shoe fits." Fran said. "Will you cut out the nanny Fine stuff, already?" Fran asked. "I am Maxwell Sheffield's wife, no longer his nanny." Fran said. "Yes, but for how long?" CC asked. She laughed and left, not even promising for sure if she would tell Max .

Fran was nervous now. "Oh, Val, if Max finds out, I won't be able to finish the week here." she said. "I know, Fran, and I will hire someone else if I have to." she said.

The rest of the day went fine, but just before Fran was going to go home, Max comes in with CC and some business associates. She ducks into the back and sends Val out. CC hadn't told Max, but she wanted to make Fran squirm.

Fran heard CC bring her up, and they were talking about Fran. "How's your wife? " the associate asked. "Oh, she is fine, she is busy this week with her mother." Max said. "Good, Max, glad all is well." he said. Cc said, "Well, you know Fran, she could be hanging around."

Max looked at CC like she was crazy. "Well, her friend does work here." CC said. Fran wanted to go, and get on home, so she heads out the back. Fran didn't know Max had seen her. He excuses himself, and talks with Val.

"Val, was that my wife I just saw leaving?" he asked. "Why would Fran be here?" Val asked. Fran had left her uniform, and her name tag was sitting on the counter, with it. "I suppose you have another big haired person named Fran working here?" he points to the uniform and name tag.

Val bites her lip. "Val, I know you're her best friend, but dish." Max said. "She was helping me out, tomorrow is the last day." Val said. "No, it ends now, Val, sorry, but find someone else for tomorrow." Max said. "What are you going to do?" she asked. "Well, Fran won't be happy tonight." Max said.

Max went back to his table, and CC figures out he knows, but she keeps quiet. Max cut the meeting short, he wanted to go home and deal with Fran. Val gives Fran a heads up, "Fran, he knows." she said. "Oh, Val, how?" she asked. " He saw you sneak out today, and he saw your uniform." Val said. "Oh no!" Fran said. "He is on his way home. " Val said.

"He told me he wasn't going to allow you to work tomorrow, and he was going to deal with you tonight." Val said. "Oh no, Val!" "thanks for telling me." Fran said.

Fran was waiting for Max, she knew he would be furious, and she was atleast ready for him. Max comes in. "Fran, we are talking in my office." he said. Fran said, Alright, honey, but please don't be too angry." she said.

"You defied me, didn't you?" Max asked. "You lied and defied me." Max said. "Yes, Max, I suppose so." she said. "How are we supposed to trust each other if you do this, Fran?" Max asked. "I am sorry, Max." Fran said.

"I am hurt and disapointed, Fran." Max said. I am not letting you out of this one." he said. "You know what happens." he said. "Yes, Max, and you have every right." she said. "Well, you're not going back tomorrow." Max said. "I know." Fran said. Max stayed upset for several days. Fran knew she was in deep with him.

Fran had to prove to him she wasn't up to anything, for a while, she was almost giving an acoount to all she did, but it was understandable, Max has trust issues with her. Max finally cooled off after a week, but Fran had to go through some things with him.

He had his ways to make her understand he wasn't going to tolerate defiance. He loves her, but he was not going to allow lying and defiance, she has always known it about him.

Fran knew she had hurt Max, and she felt bad about it. She learned a tough lesson, again. Max began coming around, but Fran had to do without some of what she was used to. However, Val did pay her, a full two weeks, and she had a little money. She didnt like the way she came about earning it, with out Max's approval, it wasn't worth it.

Max and Fran had several discussions about it, and Fran realized, well, Damn, Max has my number." she said.
