Scene 1: Located in the living room of the Sheffield Mansion. Maxwell and Fran are both in the room.
"Miss Fine, you recall my brother, Nigel, don’t you?" said Maxwell Sheffield.
"Yes , I do as a matter of fact. Why, may I ask?" retorted Fran Fine, with question.
Maxwell said," Well, I thought that I should let you know that he will be arriving tomorrow, during the early afternoon.
"Oh, okay, thank you for letting me know, Mr. Sheffield." said Fran.
"Miss Fine," Mr. Sheffield began, "what are your plans for the evening?"
"Well, I think that I am just going to watch a movie that is on the USA channel. Would like care to join me?"
Then Max said," Sure, Miss Fine, I would be honored to. I will go get some popcorn."
Max, then goes to obtain some popcorn, while Fran awaits on the couch. The movie begins, and Max sits down next to Fran, with the popcorn in his lap.
The movie starts, and Max thinks…Wow! She is looking great tonight. He then gazes at Fran out of the corner of his eye. I am so glad she asked me to join her. However, I don’t know how I will be capable of concentrating on the movie with her sitting so close…
Then, Max reaches down to get some popcorn, just at the precise moment Fran does, and he accidentally grabs her hand, instead of popcorn. They both locked eyes, and Max says with meaning ," Oh, I am quite sorry, you go ahead."
Fran lets out a small laugh, and says," Thank you." As the movie progresses, both of them begin to feel more comfortable and every once in a while, they make comment to the other. By the end of the movie, they are playfully throwing popcorn at each other, and laughing whole-heartedly.
Then Max inquires," Oh Fran, I forgot to ask you, I am quite busy with the play’s preparations. Is there any way you can be kind enough to help Nigel get acclimated and show him around New York, tomorrow when he comes?"
Fran then says," Sure, I would be glad to." Max then reaches for her face and lays a delicate kiss upon her dazzling white cheek. Fran, then smiles and reaches to give Maxwell a tight loving hug. They were both looking into one another’s eyes, while still in each other’s arms wanting to take things to a further extent. Fran thought, when I look into his eyes, I see his love for me. Oh, how I wish he would just acknowledge and admit his true feelings. I know he knows of my love for him.. Then still in the warm and security of Max’s arms, she decides to take things further, and plants a kiss on his lips and he is not resisting. He reacts back with immense desire. He begins to introduce his tongue to hers and she loves his "introduction", and does the same thing in correspondence with twice the vigorous passion.
He pulls back, apologizes by stuttering, "I am deeply sorry Miss Fine. I didn’t mean to do that. It’s getting late, I think I will turn in for the night. Uhhh,…. I will see you in the morning." With those words, Fran’s face falls and hardly mutters a "good night" before Maxwell has reached the stairs.
Scene 2: Maxwell’s Bedroom
Maxwell reaches his room, then enters it and he begins to disrobe his clothes and get ready for bed. He is contemplating what has just occurred, not even five minutes ago. She must be really irate with my non-committal self at this point. I wish for just one moment, I could just tell her how, eminently and unerringly much I am in love with her, with my whole heart…
Scene 3: Fran’s Bedroom
Meanwhile, Fran had gone up to her room, feeling quite somber. She as well decided to just go to bed. She to could not stop pondering what exactly had just taken place just minutes ago. I should not have gone through with kissing him as fully as I did. But it’s just every time I am in an enclosed vicinity with him I cannot forbear my sincere love for him. This is probably going to scare him off even more. Things were going so well before and now, look what I did…
Scene 4: Fran’s Bedroom, the subsequent morning:
Fran wakes up, and yawns. She decides to make an endeavor not to dwell on and agonize over last night’s incident. She puts on one of her exceptionally sexy robes and makes her way down to the dining room.
Scene 5: The Dining Room , the whole family is present with Niles serving:
Fran enters the room while a big smile, and says her daily "Good Morning", to everyone. Although she and Max as well, both perceive the tension between the both of them. She sits down, ineptly. Max beings to say," Miss Fine, you are still going to be able to show be in a sense a guide for Nigel today, aren’t you?"
Fran says in correspondence," Sure, no problem."
Max then states," Thank you, I would myself, but I will not be home from the theater until very late, tonight."
Gracie then exclaims," Awww! Again, father ? "
Max replies, "Yes, sweetheart. I am afraid so. When the play is finished, I promise I we will all catch up on some family time, together. But, I am sure that Miss Fine would not mind if you, Brighton, and Margaret join Nigel and her in going somewhere tonight, isn’t that right Miss Fine?"
"Certainly, Mr. Sheffield, we’d love the company." Shortly after, the kids then exit the table and are on their way to school, Max joins Ms. Babcock in the office, before they are off to the theater. That leaves Niles and Fran in the dining room. Niles says to Fran," Miss Fine, why are you looking so unhappy this morning? Is it something between you and Max? I sensed some apprehension between the both of you."
Fran then says desolately, " Yes, it is something between Mr. Sheffield and I. Well, you know last night how we were watching that movie? By the way, I saw you spying on us! Anyways, well at first it was a little uncomfortable, and then we began to ease into the movie and by the end of the movie we were having excellent time, we were throwing popcorn at each other and hugging, periodically. Well, after the movie, he had asked me to show Nigel around New York, and of course I said yes. Well, then, he kissed me on the cheek and we hugged…" Fran’s face begins to drop and she looks down at the ground shamefully.
Niles interrupts, " I don’t see what is so dreadful about that."
Fran exclaims, " I know but while we were hugging her locked eyes with me and when I gaze into his eyes filled with passion that echo my own , I just can’t resist. I wanted more, and I could just tell he wanted the same thing. So, I took it further, by kissing him and he graciously accepted, let’s just say. But, finally, he let go, apologized, and he virtually ran up the stairs. I just wish I wouldn’t literally run from his feelings. I deserve better that, don’t you think?"
"Yes, Miss Fine," Niles started, "you do. I literally do not see why he backs away like such. Is there anything I can do?"
Fran says, " Well, if he for some motive or other does talk to you about this, then only assure him of my love. But, don’t tell him that I told you to."
"Regard it as already done, Miss Fine." Niles answered back.
"Thank you so much Niles. I must get ready now. Nigel will be arriving this afternoon, and I still got go visit Yetta." Fran exits the room and goes up to her room.
Scene 6: Fran’s bedroom:
Fran enters her room and takes her robe off. She goes into her closet and picks out a skin-tight Gucci black skirt and a low-cut, sexy white blouse. She puts the articles of clothing on, then some knee length black boots and begins to apply her makeup, proficiently. She starts to contemplate…It’s been a while awhile since I have seen dear Nigel. As a matter of fact, it has been since Max and I were in Paris. I wonder where he and I could go until the children get home from school. Wow! it’s getting late. I better go visit Yetta, I only have 2 hours…
Scene 7: Sheffield Mansion Living Room:
Fran and Val are sitting on the couch talking, waiting for Nigel to arrive. Fran is giving details of last night’s incident, to Val. "I really do not know what to do, Val. I love him, and last night, it’s like I could tell, just by looking in his eyes, that he has the same passionate love for me. He always ends us backing off and I am beginning to wonder if our relationship will ever escalate to a higher level, and remain escalated. I can’t wait my entire life for love, anymore." "Oh, Franny, I feel ya." Val says. Just then, the doorbell rings.
"Oh, that must be Nigel," Fran says, "I’ll get it." Fran opens the door, and let’s Nigel in.
Nigel says to Fran, "Bonjour, darling!" Then he immediately pulls Fran into a tight embrace. Val’s mouth is wide open. Finally, when they both pull out of the tight embrace, Fran introduces Val, to Nigel. Val, then mutters that she has to get home.
Thereafter Val has left, Fran tell Nigel," Uh, Nigel, Mr. Sheffield is incredibly busy, at the theater, and he will not be home, until late. He has asked me to show you around if that is okay, with you."
Nigel replies in correspondence," I would be privileged to have you as my guide."
Fran then says," Thank you. How about we go get some lunch? I also promised the children that we would take them somewhere after dinner, if you don’t mind. But, until then, we are free to do whatever you would like.
Nigel begins to retort," Okay, let’s have a bite of lunch. Where would you like to go?"
Fran answers back," Let’s go to Della Femina, and we’ll determine where to go next." Fran and Nigel exit the Sheffield mansion, and make their way to Della Femina.
Scene 8: Della Femina:
Fran and Nigel arrive, and then sit near the back of the restaurant. They pick up their menus and speculate on what would satisfy their hunger.
Nigel says to Fran" Fran, I must admit, you haven’t changed a bit from when I last saw you and Maxwell in Paris. You are very lovely."
Fran feeling vastly flattered admits," Oh, Nigel, that is very flattering, but you are going to make me blush. How are things going at your night club?"
Nigel responds," Exceptionally, Swimmingly." The waiter then arrives, and takes their orders. When the waiter leaves, Fran and Nigel begin to talk about various things about themselves. They are unaware that they on the verge to discovery of the many things that connect them. After a short period of time, the food comes and they begin to eat. However, this does not in anyway jeopardize the incessant chat going on between the two of them. They are soon very absorbed in what the other is saying.
After they are finished, Nigel says to Fran," Fran, I heard that there is an Art Festival going on, at the Rockefeller Center. It is in the plaza, and it features over one-hundred artisans selling high-quality arts and crafts. What do you say we go?" Fran answers back," Yes, let’s go. It sounds like a lot of fun." Nigel then pays the bill, and sets down an appropriate amount for the tip and they exit.
Scene 9: The plaza, in the Rockefeller Center:
Fran and Nigel arrive and make their way to where the exhibit of the art festival’s whereabouts. They begin by browsing, and talking about their favorite artists. Nigel impresses Fran will his excessive knowledge of recent art, as well as the history of it. After going through the complete exhibit, Fran suggests a walk through Central Park. Nigel agrees, and they go to Central park.
Scene 10: Central Park:
They begin walking, and Nigel makes conversation by talking about his and Max’s childhood. Fran also tells about her childhood, as well as some funny anecdotes about her outlandish family. At many points, they find themselves stopping to laugh whole-heartedly, together. They both are feeling a connection, and a togetherness. Fran thinks…Nigel brings out a hidden side of myself, that hasn’t been released in such a long time…
Then without even thinking, Fran blurts out," Nigel, you are nothing like Mr. Sheffield. It is hard to believe that you are related, let alone brothers."
Nigel replies," Yes, we are very diverse people. However, it hasn’t always been like that. After Sara died, things for him began to change, drastically. He, himself, changed in so many ways. He was no longer the man he used to be. He became repressed, and hard to live with. All of the pain he went through was almost too much to bear, and I am still surprised he has been able to. But lately, he is turning back, gradually, into the man he used to be. I am glad to see that happening, because he discover himself a lot happier, in life."
Fran says," Yes, I have noticed a dramatic difference now, from when I started working for him. Nigel, we better go, it is almost dinner time. The kids will be expecting us, for dinner. And after that, we must take them somewhere."
Nigel then retorts," Yes, Fran. But I must say, I have relished every moment I have spent with you today."
Fran, feeling a little shocked, says," Thank you, Nigel. I, too, haven’t had this much fun, in a long while…"
Nigel then interrupts,’" If we both have had a great time, together, then what do you say to joining me for dinner and dancing tomorrow, evening?"
"Sure, Nigel, I would love to." Nigel begins to smile, while looking into Fran’s deep, brown eyes. He then takes, and embraces her with a hug, following with a kiss on the cheek. After a moment, Fran says," Okay, let’s head back home." Nigel nods, and takes Fran’s hand.
Scene 11: Sheffield Mansion, the dining room:
Fran and Nigel arrive back home, at the mansion, just as dinner was beginning. They both sat down. All of the children were already at the table, and Niles was beginning to serve. (Max was still at the theater.)
" Well, children, as you know, your father is still at the theater, and he won’t be arriving home, until very late. And I know, I promised that we would all go somewhere, tonight. Where would everyone like to go? Any preferences?"
Maggie says," I am sure that neither Brighton, nor Gracie would mind if we let Uncle Nigel chose where we go." Brighton and Gracie nod in unison, to make indication of their authorization, or approval, to Maggie’s proposal.
" Thank you, children," Nigel starts to say," How about we go to the Statue of Liberty. I haven’t been there. I am sure that the view will be impeccable, at this time of the day. Also, dependant upon if we have time, maybe we could see a movie. However, that is up to Fran."
Fran responds," That sounds great, and I am sure that we will have enough time to do both, if we leave now. It is only six o’clock." As everyone begins to rise from the table, Fran says," I am going to go change really quick. I promise I will be ready to walk out of the door, in five minutes. Everyone better be ready with their shoes on by then."
Scene 12: Fran’s Bedroom:
Fran changes into tight-fit navy flare pants, and a low-cut, ruffled Ralph Lauren blouse, that shows a portion of her stomach. She reapplied her lipstick, and was downstairs, within four minutes.
Scene 13: Sheffield Mansion, the living room:
All of the children, Nigel, and Fran were downstairs putting on their coats and shoes. When they were all ready, they left and took in the limo, to the Statue of Liberty.
Scene 14: The Statue of Liberty:
They all arrived, at their destination, and got on the ferry that takes you to the Statue of Liberty. Fran and Nigel sat in a row in the back area that had, seats directly behind the children. The sun was completely down, and you could see the shining, luminous stars, in the New York sky. All of the city buildings were aglow, and the night air was cool, and crisp. Nigel remarked to Fran, in a low toned voice," It is such a superb evening. I am very pleased to be spending it with you."
Fran smiled and said," Yes, this is a perfect way to conclude an ideal day. I had so much fun with you." Nigel then slips his arm around Fran, and holds one of her hands with his other hand. This did not go unobserved by the children, by any means.
Minutes later, the ferry arrived at the designated spot to drop everyone off. Everyone got off, and made their way to the entrance, to go up the 354 narrow, winding steps, to reach the top. The children led, while Nigel and Fran followed close behind. When they finally reached the top, instantaneously, the children ran over to a window.
Nigel led Fran to another window. Fran looked closely through the glass, as Nigel stood directly behind her, with his arms around her waist. Fran remarked about how mind-blowing, and breathtaking the view was. She also said that she was not very fond of high elevated areas, even through windows.
After she said that, Nigel playfully pushed her closer to the window, almost touching the glass. Fran let out a very silent, almost inaudible yelp, and said teasingly," Nigel! " Fran decided to play along and she turned around and pulled Nigel up against her chest, and hugged him.
In her ear, he whispered , " Awww, Fran,I didn’t mean to scare you."
Jokingly, Fran responded, " Well, ya did!" She then pouted, flirtatiously.
Still up touching her chest, Nigel said," I am sorry, Fran. I guess I will have to make it up to you. Here, how about this…" Then, Nigel kisses her gently on her supple, smooth lips, and begins to wander down to her neck, exploring the spots that please her the most. Let’s just say, Fran did not refuse to accept this, graciously. Fran, still in mid lip-lock, hears her name being called. Instinctively, Fran pulls away, and sees Gracie starring at the both of them.
She whispers to Nigel, while blushing," I’ll be right back." Fran walks over to Gracie and asks what she needs.
Gracie, still smirking from what she had just witnessed, said," Fran, may I have some money to get a drink, over there? Brighton and Maggie would like one to."
Fran pulls out a ten-dollar bill, hands it to Gracie and says," Here ya go." Gracie accepts the money and rushes off, not to just get a drink, but to also tell Brighton and Maggie what she just viewed.
Fran then goes, to rejoin Nigel, but she doesn’t see him. Abruptly, she feels someone firmly grab her shoulder and quickly pull her into an embrace. That is when she realizes it was Nigel. While she was still embraced with Nigel she said," Nigel, you scared me, again." and gave him another sweet pout. Realizing his opportunity, he pulls her close and lays another kiss on her lips.
She pulls away slightly, and Nigel says, " Is that better?"
To which Fran replies, " Very much so, but we must leave now, if we want to make the eight o’ clock movie." She leads him to where the children are. She tells them it’s time to go, if they want to make the movie. Then they all begin the tedious journey down the 354 steps again. They just made it to the bottom, in time for the ferry. They all got on the ferry, and sat in their same spots as before. Nigel had one hand on Fran’s long leg, and the other was entangled with one of her hands. As before, this was not unnoticed, by the children, as well as others aboard the ferry. They arrived back at the dock, spotted the limo, and made a mad dash to it.
Scene 15: The Movie Theater:
They arrived at the movies, and Nigel insisted on buying the tickets, as well as refreshments. They entered the theater and sat, near the center. Incidentally, the children selected a row with three seats, and two seats diametrically behind them. Well, I am most sure that you can guess who sat by whom.
The movie began, and soon after, Nigel hand slipped on Fran’s upper leg. They shot frequent glances, at each other. Nigel then playfully threw a piece of popcorn, at Fran. Fran attempted to smile, but couldn’t help thinking… This just great. He throwing popcorn at me, reminds me of the recent incident between Maxwell and me… Immediately, Nigel sensed something was wrong with Fran. He leaned over to her and whispered," Is everything okay, darling?"
Fran, having tears in her eyes, still reminiscing about the unpleasant occurrence between her and Max, managed to say," Yes, I am fine. I just thought of something."
Nigel observing the anguish in her eyes, that was unfolding before him caused him to whispered back, with stroking her cheek, said," Fran, darling, you are here, with me and the kids. I don’t want you to worry about whatever is troubles you. You are very extraordinary, to me, and I promise we will talk when we get home." Then, not be able to resist, Nigel kissed her very tenderly, on the lips. Fran kissed him back with passion, not wanting to stop, or end her current feeling that overtook her body, mentally. Finally, she pulled away, and Nigel grabbed her hand, and kissed it. He kept hold of her hand until the movie was over. When the movie ended, everyone got up and left the theater and got into the limo.
Scene 16: Sheffield Mansion, Living room, on the couch:
(Fran and Nigel are on the couch. Niles is witnessing the whole thing, without anyone knowing.)
It was late, all of the children were in bed. Max had still not arrived home, yet. Nigel had his arms around Fran’s shoulders. Fran was sitting on his lap, sideways, feeling very comfortable. Nigel says to Fran," Are we still on for tomorrow, night?"
"You bet," Fran utters, enthused, before kissing him. While they were kissing, Fran heard the front door open, and jumped up, off Nigel, without delay. She had succeeded, with swiftness. However, she had not succeeded, without Max hearing, it take place.
Promptly, Maxwell emerged into the room and said," What the devil is going on in here?"
Before anyone else can reply, Fran answers," Oh, nothing."
Right after that, Nigel said," I think I am going to turn in, for the night. Fran, I will see you in the morning. Goodnight, Maxwell." Before heading toward the stairs, Nigel gave Fran a hug goodnight, and kisses her cheek. He then went up the stairs, leaving Maxwell’s mouth wide open.
Max says to Fran, " What was that all about?"
Fran retorted," Nothing. We’ve just become close friends. What does it matter, anyways?" Max had an intuition that she was neglecting something.
He felt perplexed, and said," Miss Fine, let’s sit down and talk." She said okay, and sat down.
She asked," So, how is the play’s production going?"
Max replied, " Very superbly. But, I wanted to talk to you about the other night, prior to the day Nigel arrived. I am dreadfully apologetic and regretful about the manner in which I regarded toward you. The thing is, I wasn’t equipped to take things to a more advanced level."
Fran began to feel discomfited and tongue-tied, and she thought… Yeah, well, he is always taking everything back. I cannot take it anymore… Finally, Fran managed to say," Mr. Sheffield, I cannot take this anymore. I cannot wait forever, and I will not."
Max feeling a sense of shock could feel the distress in her eyes. To his disadvantage, he had an inability to say anything. He could see the hurt that he caused. The hurt in which many times he was the causer of.
Fran then got up, having tears pouring down her eyes and said," Good night, Mr. Sheffield." She then hurriedly went up the stairs to her room drowning in tears.
Scene 17: Maxwell’s room:
Max went to his room, a few minutes later. On his way, he could hear Fran crying in her room. How he yearned to go in there and profess his undying love for her, and then by showing her the accumulated emotions that had been bottled up for years, waiting to be unleashed. Unfortunately, he decided against his feelings. Then he began to cry himself to sleep. He began to suspect that kiss shared between Fran and Nigel really mean more that Fran admitted it to. He had endured many nights remaining fully conscious, not due to something along the lines of insomnia, but due to being unable to stop fantasizing about his Fran, the woman that completed his whole self…
Scene 18: Fran’s room, the subsequent morning:
Fran awoke, feeling the aftershock of the misery of the previous night. She put on a ribbed gray sweater and some black and gray plaid tight pants. She kept her brown, curly hair down. She headed downstairs for breakfast, feeling awkward.
Scene 19: Sheffield mansion, the dining room, at breakfast time:
Fran was the last to sit down. Nigel shot flirtatious glances at Fran, not knowing what she had been through last night. These glances did not go unnoticed by Maxwell. The children left for school, after some small talk. Maxwell then broke the silence at the table by inviting Fran and Nigel to lunch at Gascogne, a French restaurant on Eighth Avenue. Nigel and Fran both were in agreement. Max said," Okay, be ready to leave by 12:30 sharp." They nodded in approval and excused themselves from the table, and Max did just the same.
Afterwards, Max overheard Nigel ask Fran to talk with him in private on the terrace of Maxwell’s office, where Nigel thought there wouldn’t be any disturbances or interruptions. Maxwell felt suspicious and went to a low window that overlooked the terrace. Fran and Nigel were already on their way, to the terrace.
Scene 20: The terrace:
Max was already at the window peering down, and listening intently. Nigel and Fran were both seated. Neither of them had any suspicions whatsoever, that anyone could be overhearing. Nigel said," Fran, I have never felt the way I feel about you toward anyone, before. You are very special to me, and I need to know, is there anything going on between you and Max?"
Fran replied," Well, technically, yes, and no. Maxwell says that he is not ready to commit. I know that he has feelings for me, deep down. I can tell that he feels more profoundly then he will even acknowledge. And yes, those emotions are mutual. However, I am wholly vexed of his lack of commitment and frankly, I am very close to just giving up. I cannot take it anymore…" Fran begins to shed tears that begin to run down her face.
Nigel takes Fran in his arms, to console her. He whispers something in her ear that is inaudible for Max to hear, and then he kisses her. Fran replies by kissing him back. Finally, she lets off and lets out another series of weeps. Nigel remains embracing her and he starts to say something to her, but Fran puts her finger on his lips to silence him. Next, she starts to kiss him. She kisses him as effusively as she can kiss another man that is not Maxwell.
In the meantime, while as of this transpires Maxwell is crying. He has so much excess stress bottled up inside with his work and now this… Many emotions were flowing through his mind at once. As he watched Fran and Nigel indulge themselves into each other’s lips, he felt at though his heart was being viciously shredded.
Ultimately, they broke apart and Fran muttered that she was really confused about how she felt, and that she had to get ready because they would be leaving soon for lunch with Mr. Sheffield. Nigel said, "Okay. Fran, I hope that you will still join me for dinner tonight, though? Will you do me the honor?"
After a moment, Fran said," Okay." After she agreed, Nigel pulled her into a hug and kisses her once more. Fran lets go and says that she must go get ready and she leaves the room. It is at that moment that Max makes a realization. He comprehends how much seeing Fran and Nigel kiss overwhelm and shatters his heart. He realizes that he cannot live his life without her and he has to reassure Fran somehow…
Scene 21: Fran’s room:
In the meantime, Fran goes to her room feeling exceptionally confused. She pondered her true feelings and questions whom she loves, and whom she is in love with. Yes, she did feel something for Nigel. However, she could not explain the depths of these emotions. She decided not to make any life-pending decisions until she spent at least one more night with Nigel. She determined to give Nigel one more night to prove himself and in some way or other influence her final decision. She also yearned for things to hear up with her and Max, like that could ever happen….
To put things simply, Fran hadn’t decided much. After all this contemplation, she began to get dressed for lunch. She put on a very tight-fitted dress that showed off her curved body, and very well-shaped, breasts.
Scene 22: Maxwell’s room:
Max went to his room feeling very disconsolate and depressed. All of his thoughts were consumed by Fran. He thought about how he unequivocally could not live without Fran. He knew right then and there how much he was in a ardent and ceaseless love with Fran. For she could so easily make his world happy under any occasion. His thoughts then drifted to the scene of Nigel and Fran making out. He knew he could never handle a sight like that without losing complete control over himself. He was also unsure if Fran loved Nigel or not. He knew of the mutual love between himself and Fran whether she was ever going to admit it now or again. He knew she was fated to play a key role in his destiny. He felt a love burning in his internal self that was lighted and that would never fade out, and he was determined to corroborate that love. While Max’s thoughts were running wild about Fran he was also getting ready for the upcoming lunch. Max put on a very sexy ensemble. He put on tailored, black Brooks Brother’s dress pants and an olive green Armani sweater that accentuated his olive green eyes and his muscularly toned body. He also put on Aramis, the cologne Fran had gotten him, hoping she would notice.
Scene 23: Sheffield mansion, living room:
Maxwell and Fran arrived downstairs at approximately the same time. However, Nigel was still in the middle of getting ready. As Fran descended from the stair case, Max could not take his eyes off of her. He was mesmerized. As she reached the last stair, Max took her hand, kissed it delicately and said," Fran you look absolutely exquisite, and not to be too straight-forwarded, but exceedingly sexy." Fran blushed and responded confidently," Thank you. You look extremely sexy, yourself. Are you wearing Aramis, to?"
Max said," Why don’t you check?" Fran leaned in very close and smelled his neck. She felt stimulated and galvanized by his scent that sent her in overdrive, in a matter of seconds.
She exclaimed softly," Oh, Max, you know that makes me wild."
Max retorted cleverly," Why else would I have put it on? It’s very fun to watch you "going wild", as you put it." Fran jokingly hit Max’s arm. They began to laugh and then Nigel joined them.
Max took charge and led them out into the limo. Fran sat in the middle. Nigel took one of his hands and put it in Fran’s hand. This made Fran uncomfortable. Max felt very enviously. Max’s hand was resting barely against Fran’s thigh. Max longed to put his hand all of the way on her thigh possessively. But, Nigel had beat him to it. Finally, they reached the restaurant after a vitally awkward car ride, for Fran.
Scene 24: Gascogne restaurant:
When they entered for their one p.m. reservation, they selected a booth in the back, and again Fran was stuck in the middle. They sat down, and the waiter arrived to the table and they all agreed on a bottle of champagne. As they waited, all that partook was some small talk. Max looked over and spotted the dance floor and this time he beat Nigel in making the first move. He stood up immediately and said," Fran, will you do me the honor of dancing?" Fran wanted to, but she looked at both of them questioningly.
Nigel then muttered," Fran, go ahead, we can dance later."
So then, Fran smiled and replied to Max’s request by saying," Yes, I would love to Max." Max took a hold of Fran’s hand and led her to the dance floor. He pulled her close to him, and they began to dance to "The Power of Love", by Celine Dion.
Fran locked her eyes with Max and said," It’s been such a long time since we have been able to dance together." Max said back," Yes, unfortunately, it has. It feel so good to hold you in my arms."
After a moment, Fran whispered," It feels good to be in your arms." Then Max gathered her in his arms as close as he could. They were touching. Fran’s head was on Max’s shoulder and Max leaned over to kiss one of her cheeks and then Fran looked up and smiled. She saw the affection and want in his eyes.
Max said," Fran, I want to apologize. I am truly and deeply sorry about everything that has been going on between us. I am sorry we haven’t been able to spend more time together. And I know, that I have been being, too non-committal." Fran once again saw the revived love for her in his eyes, but she was still confused with her personal feelings, so she replied, " Max, I as well, am sorry things haven’t been going well. But, I cannot put my life on hold, all of the time. I am just very confused about my feelings, at the moment. Can we discuss this at home, in private and enjoy the time we are having now?"
Then Max said," Okay Fran, we can talk about it when we get home. In meantime, we can have some fun."
Fran smiled and nodded. Not wanting to push it, Max stroked her cheek and kissed it.
During this turn of events, Nigel was sitting at the table with his eyes stuck on Fran and Max dancing, intimately. He was very jealous.
Max then said to Fran," I was thinking maybe we could go out to dinner and the movies tonight, to catch up by spending the evening together. What do you say?"
Fran wanted to go but responded," Max, I would love to. But Nigel already asked me out for dinner and dancing. I accepted, thinking that you were going to be busy, at the theater."
Maxwell could not hide his disappointment. Fran, feeling the guilt from his attempt to try at rekindle the romance said," I suppose Nigel would mind if I canceled."
Max wanted to go ahead and tell her to cancel it. But, he wanted to conserve his pride somewhat, and said," No, no, it’s okay. I will stay home with the kids and get some office work done." Fran said okay. Then the song ended and Max led Fran back to the table with his arm tightly around her lower back. He lets Fran into the booth and he follows behind. They order, and shortly after, the food arrives.
During the course of the meal, Max and Nigel found themselves competing for the attention of Fran. For example, when they were sipping on their champagne, Max made a sweet and simple toast to Fran expressing his gratitude for what she has done for the family. Well, Nigel couldn’t wait to make a better and more straight-forward toast by saying," To Fran, the most beautiful woman that has entered my life, and a woman that I have in a short time, grown to admire." Then Nigel had kissed Fran on the lips, slightly.
Despite the slightness, to Max, a kiss was a kiss and he was burning up with envy. Maxwell decided to pay Nigel back. When Nigel when to the bathroom, Max found himself continuously complimenting Fran. By the time Nigel came out of bathroom and returned, Maxwell had kissed Fran twice and he currently had his hands entwined with Fran’s. This did not enthrall Nigel, by any means. When the meal finally ended, Nigel insisted on paying the check even though Max had an account there. Max finally relented and let Nigel pick up the check, to not create a scene.
The car ride how was full of tension, and was hell for Fran. When the limo made a sharp turn, Fran collided into Nigel. Nigel grabbed Fran and made it more dramatic then it actually was. He held Fran and asked her if she was okay. Fran feeling a little annoyed at this behavior responded," Yes, you can let go now. I am fine." She quickly scooted back to her seat, not wanting to escalate the tension level between the Sheffield brothers. While this all occurred, Maxwell put much effort into maintaining his self-control, and being a gentlemen. Maxwell want to yell at the limo driver and Nigel. He also wanted to Grab his Fran possessively and kiss her lips feverishly. They reached home Nigel said something about how he had calls to make, and that it would be awhile. He also reminded Fran to be ready at the door by 5:30 for their 6:30 reservation.
Scene 25: Sheffield mansion, the living room:
Fran had at least an hour to kill before she had to begin getting ready for dinner with Nigel. She decided to watch some television. She was sitting and flipping through the channels and Max came up behind the couch and put his arms around her shoulders. By the feel of his arms, Fran could tell instantly that it was Max. She leaned her head all of the way back so she could lock eyes with Maxwell. He ran his hand down her cheek and lips. She asked Max if he would like to join her and he answered," Very much so." He sat down next to her and she cuddled up next to him close enough so she could smell his cologne. "Fran," Max began," I think we should discuss what we were in the midst of in the restaurant." Fran nodded as Max started to say," As I was saying Fran, I am genuinely about the way things have been going on between us. I haven’t intended to neglect you. I want to make up for it, if you will let me. Fran I lo……."
Fran interrupted," Max, before you say anymore, I want to say that right now I confused about whom I want to be with. You are going to have to give me more time." Max was disappointed, but he understood, the position she was in. He nodded. Fran observed that he was trying his hardest to express himself, and she knew it was hard for a man such as him. Fran hugged him and lay her head on his shoulder before kissing his cheek.
After a few moments, Maggie came trotting down the stairs and said," Dad, Fran, there is a party tonight at Julie’s, and Nick asked me to go with him. I know what you are going to say daddy. Yes, the party will be chaperoned, and yes I know Nick is a new driver, but he is a good driver."
Fran and Max looked at each other and Fran said," Max it’s your call."
Max hesitated, and said," Okay Margaret. You may go if you are home by 11 p.m., no questions asked." Both Maggie and Fran were surprised that Max had actually agreed.
Maggie began to jump up and down excitedly and screamed," Yes!" Maggie excitedly ran upstairs to get ready for her party.
Meanwhile, Fran gave Max another quick hug and said that she had to go get ready. Max playfully pulled her down on his lap and said," No Fran, stay here with me!" Fran while laughing said," Max, I know. I wish I could, but I promised Nigel." Fran again began to get off Max’s lap, but once more, he pulled to back down and said flirtatiously," You’re not getting up till I get a kiss from you." Fran said," Okay, that's my specialty. I’d be glad to help you with that." She leaned in to kiss Max and they began to kiss neither of them wanting to stop. While they were still in mid-kiss, they began to lay on the couch and they began a rather lengthy session of making out followed by kissing each other’s necks. Finally, some sense knocked into Fran’s mind and she got up and said," Sorry. I really got to get ready."
Max said," Awww!" He then pulled her into a final embrace following with a tongue interacting kiss and then he released her. Fran made her way upstairs to her room.
Scene 26: Fran’s room:
Fran reached her room. She entered her room hardly believe the development between her and Max. She went over to her closet and picked out a very short red dress with barely noticeable straps. She put her hair up with many soft, but also mind-blowing curls. She hurriedly applied her make up, and made it down stair just as it was 5:27 p.m.
Scene 26 Sheffield mansion, the living room:
Nigel was already downstairs waiting for Fran. Nigel was wearing a black Hugo Boss suit. He took one look at Fran at immediately told her," Fran, you look absolutely, gorgeous." He pulled her into an embrace. While they were hugging, she noticed the difference of the way Nigel admired her looks and the way Max does. There was something missing in the way that Nigel did it. Fran couldn’t exactly put her finger on it. However, she was not going to hold him in ridicule just because he didn’t greet her just as Max. After the hug, Nigel told Fran that they had to leave for the restaurant. They exited the house and got into the limo. For some reason, the ride to the restaurant was a little awkward. Nigel didn’t talk much on the way there and neither did Fran. Nigel had his arms around her and would kiss her neck every so often.
Scene 27: The restaurant:
A waiter led Fran and Nigel to a table near a patio. The waiter arrived to take orders. They both ordered and Nigel also ordered a bottle of their finest burgundy. They began with small talk, and gradually they both eased into being themselves. It took a long time, but finally, the food arrived. They began to eat, and Fran remarked about how scrumptious the food tasted. After they were done eating, Nigel asked Fran to dance. And of course, she said yes. They went out to the dance floor, and Nigel pulled Fran close to him. They began to sway to Mariah Carey’s "One Sweet Day". This song made Fran’s thoughts drift to Maxwell. Suddenly, Nigel ask Fran to go out on the back patio. She said sure, and they went out there.
It was a chilly night, and Nigel gave Fran his jacket to give her more warmth. He also had his arms around her. It was late, and Fran remarked about how beautiful and clear the night was. Nigel said," Indeed, it is lovely out. But, not nearly as lovely as you." Fran laughed and blushed. She almost lost her balance, but Nigel kept her steady. Nigel began to stroke Fran’s cheek and he kissed her on the lips. He pulled apart slightly and said," You mean the world to me, and I am going to prove it." Just then, Nigel got down on one knee and began to say, Fran, will you marr…." Just before Nigel could finish asking, his cell phone rang. Nigel knew if he didn’t answer there was always the possibility of it ringing continuously, so he told Fran to go ahead and answer it. Fran picked it up and it was Niles. Fran said," Niles, why are you calling? Is something wrong?"
On the other end of the phone, Niles urgently said," Miss Fine, yes something is wrong." Niles paused, and Fran exclaimed, "Well, what is wrong?" Niles barely managed to say," Miss Fine, Maggie was on her way home from that party with that fellow, Nick, and a drunk driver hit them head on." Fran screamed," Oh my God, Niles, I am on my way to the hospital." Fran hung the phone up and gave it to Nigel.
Nigel said," Fran, what is wrong?"
Fran had tears in her eyes and said," Nigel, I have to go now. Maggie was on her way home from a party and she was in a car accident."
Nigel said," Oh gosh!"
Fran said in between tears," I know. I am sorry but I have to go now." Fran immediately ran off to hail a cab. Nigel yelled after her," Fran! Wait, you never answered my question." Fran couldn’t hear him, she was too far ahead. She got in a cab and yelled," To the hospital, it’s an emergency!" The driver sped off. Nigel finally made it out of the restaurant, after paying the bill, and he hailed a cab.
Scene 28: The Hospital:
Fran arrived at the hospital emergency entrance. She threw the cab driver a twenty dollar bill. She didn’t even bother to wait for her change. She directly ran in to the entrance. She arrived in and spotted Brighton, Grace, and Niles. She ran over to them and said," How is she? Where is she?"
Niles responded," Her recent condition is not good and she is in surgery."
Fran said," Thank you Niles. Where is Max?"
Niles said," Max is in Margaret’s room, and the number is 412." She hugged Niles, Brighton, and then Grace.
Then Fran said," I am going to go up and see Max." Fran literally ran to the escalator and got off and ran the room.
When she reached the doorway, she spotted Max on the couch in the room with his head buried in his hands. Instantaneously, Fran ran over and hugged him. It startled Max. He looked up with red eyes, still weeping. Max grabbed Fran back. He was so relieved to see her. Fran was crying as well. Max said," Fran, I am so glad you are here. I cannot deal with this alone."
Fran answered," I know Max, that is why I am here." Fran kissed Max’s head and he buried his head in her chest. They both sat there crying, and Fran was stroking Max’s hair, attempting to calm the both of them down. Then, unknowingly, Nigel arrived in the doorway and saw the two of them wrapped in each other’s arms. He decided to not go in so they wouldn’t see him. He watched them for a few moments, and realized that they both needed each other desperately and he went back downstairs, to be with the rest of the family.
After a prolonged period of time, Max and Fran began to calm down and realize how much they needed each other. Max looked up at Fran with his tear-stained eyes and gave her a look that told her everything that she needed to know. And Fran knowingly whispered," I know Max. It’s going to be okay." Fran kissed Max on his lips. Max pulled Fran atop of him and they both just lay there together, wrapped in each other’s arms, waiting for the surgeon to come in and tell them the news of the surgery. Fran was on top of Max and she rolled over so she could look at him. She looked him in the eyes and he caressed her hair and pulled her face close so he could kiss her. They kissed for a long time. They were like each other’s source of oxygen, they were all that the other needed to survive. At last, the doctor entered knocked on the door. Fran and Max both got up and sat. Max had put his arm around Fran. Then, Max said," Come in."
The doctor came in and began by saying," Well, the surgery went splendidly. Although, Margaret suffered massive internal injuries. I would like one or both of you to stay this night and maybe even the next two nights. It just will depend on her condition. I know you are wondering whether or not you can see her or not. Well, given the circumstances, I will just let you two see her, just for 10 minutes or so. She will be in the next room. Any other family members will have to wait till tomorrow afternoon and two o’clock when the visiting hours begin. Why don’t you go tell other family members that she is going to be okay, and to go home and get some rest. Then one or both of you may come back up and see her and stay in this room for the night, or however long you need to stay."
Fran and Max agreed and said they would meet the doctor in front of Margaret’s room in fifteen minutes. The doctor left the room and Max said," Fran, I am going to stay, and I really like you to stay with me, but that is up to you."
Fran realized how much Max needed her, so she said," Yes, I will stay with you."
Max said," Okay, great. Let’s go tell Niles." Fran and Max went down the elevator and arrived at the room where everyone was waiting. Niles and Nigel were both up talking and they woke up Brighton and Grace. Max and Fran approached them hand in hand. Max started out by saying," Margaret is okay. She is suffering substantial internal injuries and the doctor would like Fran and I to stay the evening, and possibly the next two evenings. You guys are not permitted to see Margaret tonight, but you will be able to tomorrow. Niles will bring all of you. And Niles, bring Fran and I some clothes in the morning and then you may come back in the afternoon to see Margaret." Everyone agreed, and was happy Margaret was going to be okay. Nigel understood the tight situation and decided to wait till tomorrow to talk to Fran about what was going on between the two of them. Then everyone left and Max put his arm more firmly around Fran and led her back up to Margaret’s room, to meet the doctor.
Scene 29: Fran and Max’s hospital room:
After Fran and Max met with the doctor and saw Margaret long enough to express their love to her, they went back to their room. It was past 2 a.m. and they were both tired. Fran went into their bathroom and washed her face and put on a robe a nurse gave her. She came out of the bathroom and told Max he could go ahead in. He went in and did the same thing. He washed his face and put on his robe. Max came back out of the bathroom in his hospital robe, and saw Fran sitting on a small chair, with her eyes fixed on looking out the window. He came up from behind her and put his arms around her shoulders. He could feel Fran shivering, so he bent further down and pulled her even closer. He whispered in her ear," Fran, thank you for everything. I am so relieved you are staying with me, tonight. I don’t think I could handle this without you."
Fran turned, and faced him. She said," Me to. I have really missed you." She gave him a peck on the cheek that soon transformed into a full-length kiss. She began to shiver again, and Max picked her up off the chair and placed her delicately on the bed, under the covers.
He gave her a warm kiss on the forehead and said," Sweet dreams, Fran. I will take the couch."
Then Fran shook her head and responded," Max, no, it is too uncomfortable. I am sure I can conduct myself for a few nights. Besides, I am extremely cold."
Then Max answered cleverly," It’s not your behavior I am worried about…" Fran gave him an endearing pout, that was too demanding to endure for him. So he said," Ok, Fran. I will because you are too cold." Fran smiled and thanked him. Max went over to the other side of the bed and entered, and laid next to Fran. He saw her still shivering and decided to put his arms around her, tightly. He pulled her against him and he could feel her skin against his chest. He asked her," Is that better?"
Fran remarked," Yes, a lot better." They occasionally whispered something in the other’s ear and they shared frequent kisses.
For Fran, it was a perfect night. Besides the fact that her loved one was in critical condition, and the fact that she had to make a life-altering decision about whether or not she would spend the rest of her life as the wife of Nigel Sheffield. Still, it was a pleasant ending to a horrible night….
Scene 30: The Next Morning, in Fran and Max’s room:
Fran awoke wrapped in Max’s arms with his chest heaving against her back side. She decided not to move. She savored every moment she got to be in the arms of Maxwell Sheffield. Soon enough, Max awoke. Fran noticed the difference in his breathing patterns and she could feel a little "movement" in Max’s pants. Fran almost laughed, she tried her best to hold it in. Max, however, remained there embarrassed about the sudden "change" in his pants. He was too mortified to look and see if she was up, or even call her name, for that matter. Finally, Fran could not hold it in any longer, and she busted out laughing. Max instantly turned bright red, and said," Uhh….How long…have you been up?" Fran still laughing, managed to say," Long enough to know you need a cold shower!" Fran turned and faced him. She could sense his embarrassment, and enjoyed teasing him, for he teased her many times. Then, she couldn’t resist the look in his eyes, and she began to kiss his neck. Max pulled Fran atop of him and she laid on his stomach. She began to lay kisses all over his sensitive areas. Max was about to pull her robe off, and he succeeded, but not for very long when Fran said," Max, if you go any farther, I am not going to be able to stop."
Without even thinking Max said back," Who ever said anything about a limit, or the need to stop?"
Fran smiled, kissed him on the lips, and said," Max honey, I don’t want to do anything we will regret."
Max looked at his watch and said," Oh okay, for the time being. Hopefully we can finish this later…?"
Fran smiled, caressed his chest hair and said," Maybe, it depends how good you are for me, today."
Max laughed, and said," Then I guess I am going to have to be good, today." Fran got off him and the phone rang. She answered it, it was Niles. Niles said that he was busy, but Nigel offered to bring her and Max’s clothes to the hospital. Fran thought nervously at the fact that she was going to have to face Nigel, very soon and she reluctantly said," Okay." When she got off the phone, she told Max the sudden change of plans.
He nodded and said," What would you like to do until Nigel gets here?" Fran said," Well, why don’t you run downstairs and get us some coffee and breakfast and I will make the bed and turn something good on the TV. Then, after Nigel comes, we can go see Maggie."
Max said," Okay, I will try not to be long though." Max pulled Fran close, gave her a kiss and then he exited the room. Well, Max took long enough for Nigel to arrive without him there.
Scene 31: Fran and Max’s room when Nigel arrives:
Fran is busy fixing the bed with the TV turned up loud enough to where she can’t hear or see Nigel come in. Fran was tucking the sheet in when she felt a body come up behind her, and hug her. It startled her, but she thought it was Maxwell. She turned, and saw that it was Nigel. Nigel was about to hug Fran, when she gave them some distance. Nigel said," Well, Franny, how are you doing? How is Maxwell?"
"We are both holding up," Fran said," everything will be okay soon, hopefully. That way everything can turn back into habitual normalcy." Nigel and Fran were both sitting on the couch facing each other, not even seeing Max enter the room. Just as Max entered he heard Nigel’s voice say," Fran, darling, have you thought about my proposal? I love you."
At once, Max’s heart sunk. That is when reality struck him in the face. He couldn’t bear for one second even the mere philosophy of Fran, the woman whom he earnestly loved, being engaged to another man, let alone his brother. Before Fran could answer, Max came up to both of them and said," Over my dead body!"
Nigel grew very perturbed, due to Max’s intrusion. Nigel said," Well, I can have that arranged…"
Then Fran interrupted," Stop it, both of you! First of all Max, why now all of a sudden do you care. You have had your chance for almost 5 years to make a move, and have you? No, you haven’t. I am a grown woman, I can make my own decision. Furthermore, I have waited, and gave you adequate opportunities. And Nigel, this is a life-altering decision, you are going to have to give me more time. I promise I will not take long to decide, I just need time to think, alone."
Max stood there extremely apprehensive that he might lose her. Nigel was calm. Nigel set down her and Max’s bags of clothes etcetera, kissed Fran on the cheek and said," Baby, you take as long as you need. I am going to leave you alone now. I will see you this afternoon, when we come to see Margaret."
Fran hugged him back and said," Okay, I will see ya then." Nigel left, leaving Fran standing there and Max burning with envy.
Max waited a few minutes to make sure Nigel had left and then he said," Look Fran, I just want to say that I am sorry I have hurt you so much. I don’t do it intentionally. After last night, couldn’t you tell my love for you? I love you, and I hope you completely realize it." Fran stood there wide-eyed. Max had finally admitted it.
Then Fran went closer to him and said softly," Was that so hard to do? I love you to, and I hope you realize it, to." Max said," Yes, I do realize it because you have stood by my repressed and introverted self, for so long. I am sorry I have just always had a trepidation of love after Sara died. But now, you have helped me realize that I can acknowledge and love again." Fran put her self against Max and ran her hand through his hair, playfully. He felt very uneasy and blurted out," I can’t stand that fact that he proposed to you. I should have seen this coming. I can’t even stand the sheer thinking of the two of you together…"
Fran put a finger over his lips and said," Why are you so quick to make assumptions? I haven’t said yes."
Max said," I know, but it’s killing me inside, are you? I got to know."
Fran gave him a sexy, seductive, look and said," If I were going to accept Nigel’s proposal, I don’t think I would do this…" Then she anxiously grabbed Max, pulled him up to her lips and began to kiss his neck. They both hadn’t had the chance to change and they were still in their robes. Fran untied Max’s robe and he was in his boxers. He sat on the bed and pulled Fran on his lap. Fran began to tantalize Max by sitting on his lap and stroking his chest. She was about to pull her robe off when suddenly, they heard a knock at the door.
Immediately, Fran got up and said," Who is it?"
The person at the door responded," Dr. Paxton."
Fran said," Yes, hold on one second and I will get the door." She whispered to Max that they would finish it what they started later, and Max pulled his robe back on.
Then, Fran opened the door and let the doctor in. Fran said," I am sorry for making you wait." Fran went over to sit next to Max who was on the couch. Max placed his arm around Fran and the doctor pulled a chair up across from them.
The doctor began," Well, Margaret’s condition is moving along. Although, we have seemed to hit a slump. Progressively, she is moving along. If she continues to improve, you will be able to leave sometime today."
Max said," That’s great. When can we see her?"
The doctor replied," I will have a nurse get her room ready and you will be able to see her in fifteen minutes."
"Thank you, Doctor," Max began," we will be ready by then." Max led the doctor to the door and shut it behind him. Max went over to Fran and said," Where were we?"
Fran answered while Max was kissing her neck," Honey, we should go see Maggie. Come on, the doctor said we can go home tonight, and then we can pick up where we left off. I promise. "
Max was disappointed but said," Okay, Sweetie. Tonight, we will pick it up where we left off. I suppose I can wait. Let’s get dressed." Fran and Max both got dressed and then made their way to Maggie’s room.
Scene 32: Maggie’s room:
When they entered, Maggie was sleeping peacefully. She was on morphine, and wouldn’t be up anytime soon. Fran and Max both kissed her and said how much they loved her. They held her hand for awhile and they talked and reminisced about past memories.
After about and hour, they left, to meet the family in the lobby. Fran and Max met Brighton, Grace, Nigel, Niles, Sylvia, and Yetta. They all went up to Maggie’s room and visited. There weren’t enough places to sit. Sylvia, Yetta, and Nigel took chairs near Maggie’s bed. Max, Brighton, and Grace took the last 3 seats on the couch, leaving Fran there standing and pouting. Max laughed and tapped his hand on his lap and said," Oh, come here." Fran gladly sat on Max’s lap. Max kept his arms around her waist, possessively.
Fran and Max filled the whole family in on Maggie’s status and that they would most likely be home sometime after six o’ clock. Everyone was in high spirits that Maggie’s state was improving.
While all of this was in occurrence, Nigel practically knew his answer. He saw that he couldn’t separate Fran and Maxwell. Nigel figured out that for he may love Fran, but he was not in love with her such as Max is. Despite the realization of Fran and Max’s love, Nigel still felt jealous. He couldn’t put his finger on why he felt this way if he wasn’t actually in love with Fran. As Sylvia and Yetta began to leave, everyone else got up to say goodbye. Fran hugged and kissed her mother and grandmother.
That is when Nigel pulled Fran aside and asked her if they could go somewhere to talk. Fran knew that she couldn’t avoid this issue any longer, but she was still a little reluctant. Finally, she said," Okay, yes, we need to talk. Hold on, I am going to let Max know we’re leaving so nobody worries." Nigel said okay and Fran walked over to Max. Fran knew that Max didn’t really want Fran and Nigel to be alone after this whole issue.
After Fran told Max, she saw the look of reluctance in his eyes, and she said," Are you okay with this, honey?"
Max timidly said," Well, I am not fond the idea of him being alone with you. But Fran, I love you, and I trust you. You go ahead. I am going to worry about you, immensely."
Fran pulled Max into an embrace and said," Thank you, sweetie. I will be back as soon as possible. Plus, don’t we have some "unfinished business" to attend to this evening, when we go home?"
Max gave a devilish smirk and replied," Oh yes, indeed we do." Max gave Fran a kiss on the lips, and he was very unenthusiastic to release her.
Fran exited the room with Nigel. Nigel led Fran to a very peaceful wing in the hospital. He stopped in an vacant waiting room. They both sat on the couch. Nigel began by saying," Fran, from what I saw, I am guessing that you are in love with, or involved in some way with Max, which would mean you are turning me down."
Nigel’s face dropped and Fran said," Nigel, I am very sorry. Yes, I am very sure, now. I am in love with Maxwell. I am truly sorry if I hurt you. Max is finally coming around. I guess he had to almost lose me, to realize what he was losing. Oh, I am just very sorry."
Nigel listened keenly and said," Fran, it’s okay. When I first saw you two at my club in Paris, I was shocked to find out you weren’t already officially involved. I do love you Fran. But, when I saw the way you and Max look at each other, they way you touch each other, I realized that I am not in love with you, Max is. I wish the two of you the best of luck, and take care of him, his life will always require you."
Fran smiled and said," Thank you, Nigel. I will take care of him." They both stood and hugged. Then, Nigel said that he would walk her back to her and Max’s room.
Scene 33: Fran and Max’s hospital room:
Nigel and Fran entered the room, and saw a very lonesome Maxwell. He stood up and walked over to them. Nigel shook Max’s hand and said," Take care of her, she requires you to go on and prosper in her life."
Maxwell said," Consider it already done." Max and Fran told Nigel goodbye and he left.
Fran shut the door and Maxwell said," How did everything go?" Fran responded," Very well. He said when he saw us in Paris, he knew we were in love."
Maxwell gazed into her eyes and said," Indeed, we were, without a doubt."
Fran said," So, has the doctor said anything new about Maggie and how much longer today we’ll have to be here?"
Maxwell replied," As a matter of fact, I just about to tell you that he said her condition is extremely well, and he gave us authorization to go ahead and go home, now. So, why don’t we go home, I had Niles fix us some dinner, and he set it on the terrace."
Fran favorably responded," Oh, that sounds lovely. Let’s get our bags, tell Maggie we’ll come see her tomorrow, and then we can leave."
Scene 34: Sheffield Mansion, Fran’s bedroom:
Fran and Maxwell had arrived at home and they decided to go change and to meet on the terrace at 7 o’clock. Fran went back to her room and put on a body-hugging, short, red dress. She put her hair up skillfully and had some tendrils of curls drape around her face. She applied her make-up very subtly. She put her favorite perfume on that she knew Max adored.
She visualized what she hoped would happen tonight…I hope everything goes smoothly, and we get somewhere. After all, he had told me he loves me…
Scene 36: Sheffield Mansion, Maxwell’s room:
Max was in his room getting ready as well. He put on Armani black pants and a navy blue shirt with the first three studs undone. He was a little scruffy from not shaving at the hospital and he left it like that. Like so many times before, he put on Aramis because he knew it would drive Fran utterly wild, which he loved. He ran his hand through his thick head of hair to give it a sexy look.
Before going to the terrace, he looked in the mirror and thought…Tonight is going to be perfect. I will not screw it up! He opened a drawer to his dresser and pulled out a small black box and placed it in his pocket…
He then left the room to make a stop at the wine cellar before meeting with the love of his life.
Scene 37: The terrace:
Surprisingly enough, Fran was the first one out there. Soon after, Max came out there. The setting was extremely romantic. Dinner for two was set out, candles were lit and soft music was playing to set the mood. Fran was sitting her place and Max sat across from her and said," I hope I didn’t keep you waiting, long."
Fran remarked," No, I have only been here a few minutes." Max took the exquisite wine and poured it while saying," Fran, as always, you look superb."
Fran blushed and told Max," You are not looking too bad yourself."
When they were both seated, Max toasted," To Fran, the woman of whom I love with my whole heart, and completes my life." They both sipped their wine. They started off by talking about the great progress Maggie was making.
Then Max could not help himself from saying," Fran, I love you so much. I was so nervous and scared that I was going to lose you. I don’t want you to ever leave my side."
Fran replied," Don’t worry, Max. I love you to. That is why I didn’t marry Nigel. You are the one for me."
That is when Max got up an kneeled down next to Fran, who was sitting. Max pulled out his mysterious black box, opened it, and said," Fran Joy Fine, will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
Fran had her hand over her mouth, but was able to utter," Yes, of course, Max. I love you." Max pulled Fran in for a hug, and they began to kiss.
Max whispered to Fran," Why don’t you join me in my room? I recall that we have some unfinished business."
Fran smiled seductively and said," Yes, I recall as well, now that you mention it." Maxwell picked Fran up and carried her to his room.
Scene 38: Maxwell’s bedroom:
They entered the bedroom and it was dark except one lit candle. Max set Fran on the bed. She took his shirt off and began to discover every inch of his chest.
While Fran was in the midst of that Max was busy disrobing Fran’s dress. Soon enough, she was only in her silky red bra and matching silky panties. Max took his time and seduced her with caresses, and slow, deep kissing which made her yeaning for more. He explored her erogenous zones by starting at her neck and began to move down, teasingly grazing her skin with his lips. He kissed all along her shoulders and behind her ears. He held her hair so he could drive her crazy by nipping at her hairline and around her neck. He kept his lips slightly open so she could feel and experience the wetness in his mouth as well as the intense heat. He ran his lips down every solitary inch of her sensitive areas.
