I do not own any of the following characters, they belong to the brilliant minds of Fran Dresher and the rest. This is a continuation to "Mom's the Word", because I was not satisfied with Fran having Indigestion, and not a miscarriage. This starts out after Fran has told Max she is pregnant. I am not sure my facts are correct but I think it makes a good story.

Fran has just run out after Max is clearly upset by the 'good' news

Fran-(to Niles, downstairs, she is crying, Niles is concerned, he can hardly make out what she is saying) He doesn't want anything to do with me or the baby

Niles-No, he loves you, and it is not your fault. It is both of your blessings.

Fran-He doesn't see it that way. He yelled at me as if it was my fault.
(Fran grabs her coat from the hall closet, to cover her negligee and runs out side)

Niles- Wait, don't leave, talk to him. Oh, no she's gone.
(a few minutes later Maxwell comes shakily, walking down the stairs, as if he as just seen a ghost)

Niles- How could you?

Maxwell-How could I what?

Niles- That woman is carrying your child. You co-created that child, and you yelled at her! That child is not anyone's fault, it is a blessing for both of you. Wake up, and realize that the woman you love who is carrying your child just ran out of here in her nightgown, in tears.

Maxwell- Oh my god, what have I done. Before we got married we already agreed to have a baby together, how could I. It was the shock of it all. That news was the last thing I was expecting.

Niles- What the bloody-hell are you doing standing here telling me this. Go find her and tell her that.
(Max went grabbed his wallet and keys, and jumped in his Mercedes, off to look for her)

Maxwell- Thinking "Oh my god, I have been looking for here for over an hour, what if something has happened to her, I will never forgive myself."

~Meanwhile, Fran is walking around Central Park, hugging herself, and trying to figure out what to do next, then she sees Maxwell's car, he sees her and jumps out, they are about a hundred feet away and Max starts towards her, she starts to run then feels a sharp pain in her stomach and doubles over on the ground. Maxwell runs faster towards her. When he reaches her, he pulls her up into a sitting position and hugs her.

Maxwell- I am so sorry honey, I want this baby as much as you do. Are you alright?

Fran- Nooo (she squeques out), there are sharp pains in my stomach, I think there is something wrong.

Maxwell- Oh my god, I'll call an ambulance. Don't move.

911 operator- 911 emergency what is the problem?

Maxwell- Yes, my pregnant wife is having sharp pains in her abdomen. She just fell down in pain. We are in Central Park. Yes, thank you.

Maxwell- It's ok honey, an ambulance is on the way, the baby will be okay, we will get you to a hospital.

Fran- Honey, I am worried, what if something happened to the baby.

Maxwell- It's okay honey save your strength.
(The ambulance arrives and they are on the way to the hospital) (Later at the hospital)

Fran-(to Dr. Reynolds) Dr.Reynolds, is my baby ok?

Dr. Reynolds- Well, Fran we have to run some tests and we will find out how everything is going. Until we get the results we will not know anything for sure. Maxwell, here are some forms you need to fill out.

Maxwell- Ok honey, I am sure the baby will be okay, the kids, Niles, C.C., Val, and your parents are all here. They are concerned, would you mind if I left for a minute, to talk to them

Fran- No, don't leave, not now, I need you.

Maxwell- Alright, darling I won't leave if you want me here.

Fran-Thank you honey.
(The Doctor runs more tests)
Doctor Reynolds returns

Fran- Oh thank god, Dr. Reynolds how is our baby?

Dr. Reynolds- I am so sorry Fran.

~Fran falls into Maxwell's arms weeping too hard to speak

Maxwell- Doctor why?

Dr. Reynolds- First of all, the fertilized egg was not fully attached to the uterus. Most likely though a traumatic emotional experience is what caused the egg to discharge. But, this will in no way keep you from having children in the future.

Maxwell- Oh god, it is all my fault. Fran I am so sorry.

Fran- Not my baby. (she weeps out)

Dr. Reynolds- I am sorry, we will have to perform surgery to remove the pregnancy. The orderly will be in, in about twenty minutes to take you into surgery. You can go home a few hours after surgery, if there are no further complications.

Fran- No this is not your fault it was, we were just not meant to have a baby now. It was fate.

Maxwell- No, this was my fault, if I had not yelled you wouldn't have left and this wouldn't have happened. When you are feeling better we can talk about having a baby.

Fran- No, Max it is not your fault, I shouldn't have run off like that.

Fran- Thinking " no, if I had just stayed and talked it out with Max instead of running out we would still have our baby"

Maxwell- Thinking " if only I had not yelled at her, if only I had calmly talked it over with her, if only she hadn't suprised me like that, if only I was more prepared for that news"

~The orderly wheeled Fran out of the room an into the emergency surgery ward. After Fran left Maxwell went down to the waiting room and broke the news.

Sylvia- How is my baby, and her baby?

Gracie- How is mom?

Maxwell- Well, she had a miscarriage, the doctor could not help it. Now she is in surgery, the Doctor has to remove the remains of the pregnancy.

Gracie, and Maggie ran into their fathers arms crying along with everyone else including Maxwell

Maxwell- But the Doctor says Fran will still be able to have children. She can come home later today, if there are no more complications. I will stay here. Maggie, please go home and get Fran some cloths to wear home, and some make-up and whatever else she needs. Everyone else should also go home and get the house cleaned up. Fran will not be up to visitors.

Niles- Tell her we all send our sympathy and hope she feels better.

Sylvia- I do not want to leave my baby, she needs her mother.

Maxwell- Sylvia please, she wants to be alone, she is quite upset. You can go to the house to be there when we get home.

~Everyone leaves and Maxwell returns to Fran's room, soon after Fran is wheeled in. She is still a little groggy from the gas

Maxwell- (to Dr. Reynolds) Will she be alright?

Dr. Reynolds- Yes, the surgery went well. You can take her home in an hour or so after the gas wears off.

Maxwell- Thank you Doctor.

Fran- (her speech is slightly slurred) Max, hold me, I love you. ~Maxwell sits on the edge of the bed with his arms around her

Maxwell- Do you feel alright.

Fran- I feel okay.
~They just lay their holding eachother, crying over there loss for what seems like hours. Then there is a knock at the door and Maxwell weakly says "come in". Maggie walks in slowly with a dressing bag in her hand. She puts in the bathroom.

Maggie- So, dad, how is Fran feeling. How did the surgery go?

Maxwell- She is holding up, but she is emotionally hurt. The surgery went well.

Maggie- Let her know I was here and hope she feels better.

Maxwell- Thank you, let the family know we will be home in about an hour or so.
~Maggie leaves

Maxwell- (softly) Fran, Franie, wakeup honey, Maggie brought your cloths, we can go home now.

~Fran slowly gets up and walks into the bathroom to change. Maxwell goes to the nurse's station to sign out.

Dr. Reynolds- Fran will have some abdominal pain for a few days. Here is a prescription, give her two every four hours for pain. Call my office to make an appointment for a week from now.

Maxwell- Yes, thank you doctor.

~Maxwell returns to Fran's room where he finds her looking out the window. He walks over to her and wraps his arms around her.

Maxwell- The orderly will be here in a minute to take you down to the car. Are you ready?

Fran- As ready as I can be.

~The orderly came with a wheel chair, and took them down to their car. Maxwell had Niles send the limo, so he could sit with her on the ride home. They said nothing on the ride home. They just sat wrapped in eachothers arms. When they pulled in front of the mansion, Maxwell got out then helped Fran out. They walked into the house and everyone was sitting there waiting. Gracie jumped up.

Grace- Oh mom, are you alright.

Fran- I am okay everyone. I am just tired, I think I will just go up to bed.

Maxwell- Okay everyone, I am going to help Fran upstairs and stay with her up there for a while.

Fran- Oh, I feel dizzy.

Maxwell- Alright honey, here (he scoops her up in his arms with her head resting on his shoulder) let me take you upstairs.

~Maxwell lays Fran on their bed,

Maxwell- Darling are you alright?

Fran- No my stomach hurts.

Maxwell- I will send Niles out for the pain medication right now.

~He leaves to give Niles the prescription sheet.

~Fran lays on the bed thinking about how just eighteen hours ago she was happy at the prospect of being a mother. Now she has lost her first child.

That night Fran and Maxwell spent hours wrapped in eachothers arms, talking about the baby. Mostly crying together. In the end they decided to wait a little while before trying to have a baby. They decided they needed time to get over the loss of the baby, before they thought of planning for another baby. They decided

One-year later Fran gives birth to two health babies. A boy named Jonah Samuel and a girl named Eve Katherine. They love their new babies but will never emotionally get over losing their first child.
