Fran ran as fast as she could. She knew that she might not make it to the boat in time, but she decided to take her chances. She desperatley wanted to get married and was tired of waiting around for Max. On her way, she was thinking, and crying softly to herself, wondering about her life with Maxwell, and the kids. She wondered what would happen to them.

Her body ached and her face was wet with tears, but somehow, she found the stength to keep running. She was almost there. The boat blew the horn one last time. Fran leaned over the guarding rail, drew in a deep breath and screamed "WAIT!" at the top of her lungs. The fog horn stopped. The captain of the ship wondered what noise could compete with his powerful foghorn. The answer was simple. Fran. The boarding ramp was let down, and Nigel came running down. Fran hugged him limply. Her body was exhausted. She had been runing full speed. "I can't believe you made it." Nigel breathed. "I was beginning to think that you didn't want to marry me." A single tear dripped from the corner of Fran's eye. "Oh, I do want to marry you, I just had a *really* hard time getting here." She panted. She could barley breathe.

Nigel looked at her lovingly. "You made it here though, right? So why are you crying?" He inquired. Fran felt confused and light headed. Something was missing. Not only did her body ache, but her heart ached. 'What could be missing?' She thought. 'I have everything I've ever dreamed of! A handsome millionaire wants to marry me! What *am* I crying for?' Fran tried to shake off the negative thoughts. All of a sudden, someone was yelling from the ship. "Are you guys boarding? We're about to set sail!" "We're coming!" Nigel screamed. Fran's body was weak as she tried to walk up the boarding ramp. "Oh Nigel, I'm too tired. I don't think I can make it up the ramp." She sighed, exhausted. "Then I'll carry you." Nigel offered his arms. Fran thought that that was sweet, but she was confused now. She didn't know if it was meant to be.

She was having all these set backs, and it seemed to her, they were signs. "Darling, the boat is waiting, and we have an appointment to get married." Nigel said. Fran attempted to walk, but failed. "I'm trying." Nigel held out his arms once more. "Here, I told you I would carry you." She didn't know what she wanted now. She was so confused and bewildered. She felt out of place, lost. Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she stared at the man who had offered his hand in marriage. He carried her up the boarding ramp.

She couldn't contain her tears. Nigel was starting to wonder what was wrong. What *was* wrong with her? Even she couldn't answer that question. When they boarded the boat finally, Fran lost all control of her emotions. "We can't get married with you crying like this Fran." Nigel said as he wiped away a tear from her face. Fran keeled over to the floor of the boat. "They're going to think I'm forcing you to get married." Nigel joked. He then realized that it probably hadn't been the best time for humor, Fran was in the middle of a break down. "I don't..." Fran started. "You don't what?" Nigel asked as he gazed lovingly into her face. Fran needed an answer. She searched her mind desperatlety for one. Nothing came to her. She always had ideas! Why couldn't she come up with one now? At the moment she most needed one? "Nothing." She stated finally. She dried most of her tears and got up from the floor. She brushed herself off and forced a smile. "Okay," She whimpered. "Let's go."

The two walked into a beautiful room where there was already a wedding ceremony going on. Fran blinked to hold back her tears. As the last couple walked slowly out of the room, Fran and Nigel walked down the aisle. "I don't know." Fran sighed. "I always pictured me having a big beautiful wedding, and all my family would be there to congratulate me. Ma would be sad to find out that I was getting married without her knowing. What am I talking about? No she wouldn't! She just wants me to be married. And this guy's rich!" She smiled a little. Nigel breathed a sigh of relief. "That's my Frannie. I'm glad to see you smile."

They finally got to the altar. The man started "We are gathered here today..." Fran tuned out. Her thoughts returned to Max and the kids., and she'd left Niles. Niles had been such a good friend, and she would miss all of them so much. 'What am I doing? She asked herself. 'I can't do this! I miss the kids and Niles!'

She looked over to Nigel, who seemed to be so deeply in love with her. Her eyes that had been so weak and vulnerable only minutes ago, had turned to sadness and pure anger at herself for not realizing this earlier. "I'm sorry." She interrupted. "I can't marry you." She stated. "WHAT?!!" Nigel was utterly confused. "I can't marry you! I love Max!" It was at that moment that she realized what had been bugging her all night. She loved Max! She couldn't marry someone else! How could she have not realized this earlier? She shook her head. "I'm so sorry." She said one last time. With that, she turned around and ran out of the room.

Later, in her room, there was a knock on the door. She tried to wipe away the tears and redness from her face before she answered it. It was Nigel. "Oh, it's you." Fran looked down at her feet. "Who were you expecting? Maxwell?" Nigel said sassily. She smiled awkwardly. She hadn't been *expecting* Max, but was kind of hoping it would've been him. Not that he would've had any way of getting there. They were miles out at sea already. She snapped out of it.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" He inquired. Fran looked up. "I didn't know earlier." She answered. "Do you mean to tell me you had no idea you were in love with another man that just happened to be my BROTHER?!" Fran didn't have the right words. All she could get out of herelf was "uh...". Nigel nodded his head in sadness and dismay. He walked over to her, and sweetly kissed her on thee cheek before he exited silently.

Fran watched her door close as she sunk into her bed. Her heart was heavy, and she felt empty. Her face was cold with tears. She wrapped herself tightly in her blanket, for at that moment, it was all she had to keep her warm. She layed herself down, and let her tears roll down her cheeks. She cried herself into a deep sleep.

The next morning, even before she opened her eyes, she felt warm and secure. What had happened to the feelings of emptiness and heartache she had had the night before? She opened her eyes and looked into Max's face. She sighed in relief and silently fell back to sleep in her husbands arms.
