First I want to let you all know that I do not own any of the characters used in this story (except maybe Sara Keith). They belong to Fran Drescher, Peter Marc Jacobson, and I don't know who else. Please don't sue me for using these wonderful characters. Please don't pay any attention if my English is bad, because I'm just a 15 years old Nanny fan from Holland. This is the first part of a five-part series. Followed by Trouble Holiday, Wherever I Go Trouble Keeps Following Me, Personal Things and Future Fantastic. It may have not so many to do with the Nanny, but I felt I needed to write this story. Send any comments, tips or whatever to this address: sara_van_bussel@yahoo.com Enjoy!

It all started when a foreign exchange student from Brighton's school
came to live with the Sheffields. Her name was Sara, and she came from
Holland.
Sara and her tutor John entered the mansion. She was welcomed by the
entire Sheffield family, Fran, Niles and even CC had come out of the office
to welcome her.
"Sara this is your family for the year. Let me introduce them to you.
This is Maxwell Sheffield, the father. He is a producer on Broadway. This
are his three children, Maggie she is 20, Brighton, he is 17 and Gracie,
she is 14. This their nanny Miss Fran Fine. Their butler Niles and Maxwell's
partner CC Babcock." They all shook hands. CC and Maxwell excused themselves
and went back to the office. John left and the rest of the family went
to the kitchen where Niles made some tea. The rest sat down at the kitchen
table.
"So Sara. Tell me something about yourself." Fran asked.
"Well. I'm Sara Keith, I was born on the twenty-fifth of October, and I'm 17 years old. I'm from Amsterdam, which is the capitol of Holland. When I return I'm going to the university to become a management consultant. I've always wanted to live in America." She said while Niles handed them their tea.
"Tell us about your family." Maggie asked.
"My father died of cancer when I was 10, and my mother and my twin sister died in a car crash a year later. I was seriously injured in that crash. I've been living with my aunt ever since. But she doesn't care about me. The only reason I was able to come here was because my mother put it in her will. I rather not talk about my family." Fran felt sorry of this girl. She seemed so strong, but Fran knew that was only the outside. She looked so much like Maggie when Fran first came to the house.
"I think we all understand how you feel. Our mother died twelve years ago. I was eight and my father shut us all out of his life. Fran sure changed all that." The other kids all nodded at Maggie's words.
"That feels good. I mean it feels good to know that you know what I mean. But tell me something about your family, and what goes in this house." Fran started to talk.
"Mr. Sheffield and Miss Babcock run a production company. They are both very rich. Mr Sheffield is Niles' and my boss. Miss Babcock and Niles hate each other, but you will notice that soon. Maggie goes to Manhattan University, and B and Gracie go to NY high. I believe you are in the same classes as B. I'm the nanny and I take care of these children. Niles is the butler and if you want anything you just ask him. Ain't that right Niles?" Sara looked at Niles.
"That's right. Miss Sara, if you want anything you can call me. That's what I'm here for."
"Niles, why do you call me Miss Sara?" Sara asked. It just didn't feel right to her. So unpersonal. So did asking everything at a butler. She was used at doing everything on her own.
"Because you do when you are a butler. I also do it with the other kids. But if it bothers you I can call you Sara if you want to."
"I would appreciate it. I think I'm going to have to get used to asking for someone to do stuff. Back home I did everything. Laundry, cooking, dish washing, shopping. This will seem like a holiday." Sara smiled. She liked this family. Fran really felt for her. She must have had such a hard time the last couple of years.
"Why don't we show you your room? Niles will get your bags, right Niles?"
"Yes Miss Fine." Niles left to the front foyer while Fran, the kids
and Sara left up stairs.
"This is your room. Next to yours is Maggie's room, right after that is my room. On the other side are Niles, B's and Gracie's room. Around the corner is Mr. Sheffields room. You have your own bathroom in your room. The room is very empty. You know, no decorations. So I got Mr. Sheffield to say yes to a shopping spree. We'll go shopping tomorrow to make this room more your style. By the way, what is your style? What are your hobby's?"
"I'm a very big fan of The X-Files, and aliens. I also love music, especially R&B. Surfing the Internet is also pretty cool."
"Well you've come to the right family. Grace likes science fiction,
Maggie likes music and B loves to sit behind his computer all day. I have
an appointment with Val at the mall so I'll see you for dinner. Bye." Fran
left and the kids started to plan Sara's room.
"So Sara, lets play a game. I ask and you have to answer. Then I'll answer the same question" Maggie asked when Brighton and Gracie had left. They sat in Maggie's room.
"Ok."
"Best singer, male and female."
"Celine Dion and R. Kelly."
"Whitney Houston and Usher."
"Best Producers."
"Missy Elliot and Timbaland."
"Lauren Hill and Wycleff Jean."
"Best bands, male and female."
"Blackstreet and Divine."
"Dru Hill and Honeyz."
"Best live act."
"That's hard. I love Bette Midler because of her humor, and I love Celine Dion because of her voice."
"Ok. I love Michael Jackson. I saw him last year. I don't like his music but it was a big show. Next. Best band ever."
"Queen."
"No way. I love them. I became a fan at the tribute concert right after Freddy died."
"Me too." They laughed. Sara stared out of the window.
"You know. My favorite city in the world is New York."
"Why?" Maggie stood beside her.
"It's so unpersonal. No one cares what you do or don't do. No one hurts you. You can do exactly what you like and no one will care."
"That's not true." Maggie said.
"I know. I learned that last week, while I was staying here in town. But I still love it. I saw so many happy families in Central Park. I hoped I would become part of that again. I haven't been loved by someone in such a very long time. And it hurt so much." Maggie put her arm around Sara and gave her a handkerchief, because she started to cry.
"I promise we will be the best family we can be. I know Fran will be
your mother for the year, and Gracie and I will be sisters to you.
Brighton and my dad are an another story. They have serious problems with
expressing their feelings. It's the British in them. But they will always
be there for you, and so will we." Sara smiled through her tears. Maybe
it was going to be better.
Meanwhile Maxwell was having problems of his own. This girl looked so
much like his beloved Sarah. She had the same name. Sara Keith. That was
also the name of his Sarah. Sarah Keith. She had the same colour eyes,
same hair, some taste of clothes, same voice. He had send CC home so he
could process this latest change in his life. And it wasn't the appearance
of Sara which confused him, but when he thought of Sarah he wasn't as hurt
as he used to be. And scared the hell out of him. Did he still love her,
and if not, why not?
Dinner time had arrived and Fran went to get Maxwell out of his office. She hadn't seen him after Sara arrived and she was worried. She knew that Sara looked a lot like the other Sarah. She wondered how Max was dealing with it. She knocked on the office door, and although she had never done it before, it seemed appropriate now.
"Come in." Fran entered cautiously.
"Miss Fine, why did you knock? You've never done it before, why start now?" Maxwell looked up, trying to appear normal. But Fran wasn't fooled. She knew him better then anybody, and she saw it in his eyes. The hurt and the confusion. But she didn't say anything about it. If he had any serious problems, she would hear it from Niles, and then she would help him. Maxwell understood and she saw a 'thank you' in his smile.
"Dinner is ready." She said and left. Maxwell smiled. Even though she didn't say anything, she made him feel better. And for now he needed to be there for Sara. The alive one. He had briefly talked to John and he told him all about the horrible situation she was in before she came here. He went to the dinning room.
The family was sitting at the dinner table while Niles served dinner. Everybody was talking to everybody. Sara didn't say anything. She almost forgot how it was to have dinner with a happy family. She almost felt out of place. She silently finished her dinner.
Fran noticed that Sara wasn't taking part in the conversations that were going on around her.
"So Sara, have you all ready decided what you want to do with your room?"
Fran looked surprised at Maxwell. He rarely spoke at dinner, and almost
never noticed it when something was bothering the kids.
"Well Maxwell, is it ok if I call you Maxwell?" Maxwell smiled, and
Sara felt reassured.
"Maggie, Gracie, Fran and me are going shopping tomorrow. I also wanted to look for some new clothes. My aunt never let me buy anything for myself, so I don't have very many clothes." Maxwell winced. No child deserved to live the way Sara had the past years.
"Well if you need anything, money, information anything at all please
ask me." Sara smiled. This was going to be a wonderful year.
After dinner Sara went to Brighton's room. She knocked on his door.
"Enter." Sara entered Brighton's room. He was sitting at his desk doing his homework.
"Hey Sara. How are doing?"
"I'm Ok. I was talking to Fran and she told me you had Internet. I was wondering if I could use it some time." Brighton looked Sara. She sure was good looking. And she the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen. They were all kind of different colors. She also had the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.
"Of course. If you want to use it now it's ok. May I ask you what exactly you do on the Internet?"
"Sure. At home the only place I could surf was at school and at the library. My aunt couldn't spare any money for a computer. I love to chat. Actually I met some wonderful friends on the Internet. One friend especially. He helped me through some rough times. It just happens that he lives here in New York."
"I also love to chat. I surf at home or at one of the chat cafes in town. Maybe we could go there sometime. But you are free to use my computer any time you want." Sara sat behind Brighton's computer and logged on.
"Brighton? Is it okay if I call you B like Fran does? Brighton is so stiff, and nerdy." Sara smiled and so did Brighton.
"It's okay by me. May I ask you what your nickname is?"
"My nickname is Dana, as in Dana Scully, from The X-files. And yours?" Brighton wondered if it could be. He chatted with someone from Holland. Someone who had problems similar to hers. Someone who was named Dana. He hadn't heard from her in days. If he told her his real nickname she would know. And he didn't want that yet.
"It's..it's...Black." His real name was Blue.
"That's funny. The name of my friend is Blue."
"Funny. If you excuse me, I need to talk to Fran about something." Brighton
left while Sara entered her favorite chat room.
Brighton went down stairs. He did not know what to do. He loved Dana, and he loved Sara. And now it turned out to be one and the same person. But what if Sara acted different in real life? No, he couldn't tell her the truth yet. Besides he didn't even now if she felt the same.
"B, are you okay?" Fran asked when she saw him walking into the kitchen very distracted.
"Yes. Uhm Fran could I talk to you, strictly confidential?"
"Sure B. What's the problem?"
"Fran, you know I chat a lot don't you?"
"Yes."
"Well I met this girl. We've been chatting almost two years now and we became real close friends. Real close. I can almost say I love her if I had known in real life."
"Yes, but there's no problem there."
"No, but I met this other girl. I love what I know of her. I don't know her very well you see. But it turns out that she and my chat friend are one and the same person. But I don't know if she loves me and I don't know what to do." Fran looked at him. Sara entered.
"Hi. I just wanted to say good night."
"Good night, Sara."
"Good night, D." Sara smiled. It was ok if he called her D. He could call her everything and she would still think it was ok with that cute face of him. She left.
"It's Sara isn't it?" Brighton smiled.
"Yes it is. I don't know what to do. I think I love her, but I'm afraid to hurt her. She already had such a rotten life. You know everytime she tells me something about it it hurts deep inside my heart. I know a lot more then even her best friends. And if you think it's bad what she all ready told you, you have no idea how much worse it really is. Maybe she doesn't want some one so close to her to know what really happened. Maybe she doesn't want to meet me. I just don't know what to do."
"Well I can tell you one thing. She likes you. A lot. And maybe she already knows it's you. You told her there was a foreign exchange student coming, and you told her which school you go to. Maybe she figured it out by herself. Did she tell you she was coming to New York?"
"Yes. And she also talked about meeting me."
"So she wants to meet you."
"Yeah meet me, not live with me."
"I think it's best for you to tell the truth. Because if you don't she may feel like she can't trust you any more. And she needs your trust."
"Yeah, I wanted to take her out Friday. You know to that chat-cafe I
always go to. Thanks Fran." Brighton left.
The women went shopping and bought lots of clothes for Sara, and off course for the rest of the girls. Sara seemed happy. She found the family she always wanted. They had a nice dinner. Sara came out of her shell, and was the way she was supposed to be. This made Fran happy, because no child should be like Sara was.
It was evening and Sara was sitting in her room. Maggie and Fran were out, Gracie was sleeping and B was in his room. She remembered how she overheard B and Fran last night. She had wished them good night when she heard them talking about his chat friend. And then Fran told B that it was her. He loved her. And he knew about her. What was she going to do? Back home she made the decision that she would make her judgement of him after they had met. Because how well could you know a person over the internet? But she liked him. Very much. She went to sleep.
In the middle of the night she woke up because she had a nightmare. She needed someone to talk to. Someone who understood her. B was the one she needed now. He understood her. Back home when she had a dream, she wrote down what she dreamt, and then she would tell Blue about it. Well now Blue was one room away. Could she? She decided she could.
She went over to B's room and knocked on the door. He didn't answer. Off course not, he was asleep. She knocked again. Still no answer. Just when she was about to go back to her room B opened the door.
"Hu? D? What are you doing here? It's two in the morning." Sara entered the room.
"B, we need to talk. I know that you are Blue."
"You...you...do?"
"Yes, and I'm happy. Because I really need you right now."
"Why?" They sat on the bed.
"Remember when I told you about the dreams I've been having?"
"Yes."
"Well I had one tonight, and now I'm afraid to go back to sleep. What if I had another dream? I just want to forget it. It's so wonderful here, and you are all such nice people." Sara started to cry. For a moment Brighton did not know what to do. He decided that she did need him and hugged her.
"Oh B, I'm sorry. I've been so much trouble. And it's the middle of the night."
"No. I was there for you in the past and I will be here for you now. What do you wanna do?"
"Well I don't want to go to sleep. I'm too scared. But.."
"Then we'll stay awake together. You shouldn't be alone right now." They sat against the headboard of Brighton's bed. They talked about the dream and Sara cried some more. They talked about al kinds of stuff.
Sara fell asleep around four. Brighton gently laid her down and laid
beside her. He didn't want to leave her alone. He fell asleep with his
arms around her.
Fran wondered where B was. Usually he was wake before everybody else, and he woke everybody with his music. But now his room was silent. She knocked on his door.
"Trouble Miss Fine?" Asked Maxwell who just walked by.
"I don't know. B ain't awake yet. Maybe he's sick." She knocked again. No answer. She opened the door and she and Maxwell where taken aback by what they saw. There laid Sara and Brighton in each other’s arms.
"Oh my god." Fran said, while she put her hands before her mouth.
"You got that right. What the hell is the meaning of this?!" Maxwell yelled. Sara and Brighton woke. Brighton looked at his more than angry father. But instead of saying anything to him he asked if Sara was ok.
"Yes. I'm glad I got some sleep." She looked at Maxwell who was angry. And that scared her. Angry people always scared her. They usually meant trouble.
"I'll repeat my question: What is going on here?!" Brighton saw Sara had tears in her eyes, and put his arm around her.
"Dad, it's not what it looks like. Please calm down."
"I better hope not mister. You, get out of his bed and go to your room. When you are both dressed I want to see you in my office." Sara didn't want to leave, but Brighton assured her that everything would be ok. Sara went to her room, and cried on her bed. What if this family would give her up? She didn't want to go back home. She heard a knock on her door.
"Come in." Fran entered. She intended to give her a speech, but when she saw Sara's tears she went over to her to comfort her.
"Ssh honey, it ain't that bad. Mr. Sheffield will calm down, and he'll ground you both for life, but it will be ok."
"He scared me."
"What do you mean?"
"He's angry with me. People who are angry hit."
"Let's get one thing clear. We will never ever do the things to you your past family did to you."
"I know, but it still hard to believe."
"Mr. Sheffield may seem to loose his temper quickly, but he will be fair to you in the end. Back to what I came in here for. What were you doing in B's room?"
"You know he was my chat friend, right?"
"Yes I do."
"I've been having these horrible dreams, and I told him about it while we were chatting. I had one last night, and went to him for comfort. I was to scared to go back to sleep so he staid up with me. I guess we must have fallen asleep."
"Oh you poor darling. Well that explains a lot. Let me go down and explain
it to Mr. Sheffield. But we need to talk. I want to see you in my room
after you had breakfast." Fran kissed her on her head and left to talk
to Mr. Sheffield. If he would only listen to reason.
"Mr. Sheffield I need to talk to you about Sara and Brighton."
"Yes Miss Fine. Did you talk to Sara?"
"Yes and she had an explanation to make you cry."
"What do you mean?"
"You know she had a horrible past. Her only support was a friend she met on the internet. Someone here in New York. It turns out that someone was B. He helped her through some of the toughest times of her life. Like these nightmares she has been having. Last night she had another one. And she needed someone who'd understand her. Like B for example. She was too scared to go back to sleep so sweet B staid up with her. Somewhere during the night they fell asleep. In each other’s arms. So nothing happened."
"Are you serious? Brighton did that?"
"Yes he did. And let me tell you something else. When I went over to Sara to talk to her she was crying. Because you were angry with her. And to her someone who's angry means someone who hits her. She was scared of you."
"Oh my god. Why can't I think before I do something? But still I need
to talk to them."
Brighton went to Sara's room. He needed to know if she was ok.
"D? How are you?"
"I'm ok now. Your father scared me though. I know he would never hurt me but I hate it when people get angry with me. Are we still going for some drinks this afternoon?"
"That depends what kind of punishment my father has in mind for us. If he would only listen to what we've got to say."
"I think that's ok. I just explained everything to Fran, and she would talk to Maxwell before we were supposed to meet him."
"That improves our chances. Come let's go down stairs." They went to the office where Fran was sitting on her usual spot on the desk, and Maxwell sat behind the desk.
"Brighton, Sara come in and close the door behind you." They sat down on the couch. Brighton held Sara's hand for much needed support.
"I heard Sara's explanation from Fran. I'm very sorry I reacted like that. And to be honest, I'm very proud of you, Brighton. I never thought you'd be so helpful and caring. But I can't let you sleep together in one bed. So I thought of a solution. I will let Niles put up an extra bed in Brighton's room. So Sara, when you have any problems, you can stay in Brighton’s room. But only when you have problems. Ok?" Sara smiled.
"Yes, Maxwell. That's fair. Can I hug you?" Sara carefully asked.
"Off course." Maxwell stood and hugged Sara.
"B and I wanted to go to town today. Is that ok with you?"
"Off course." Brighton and Sara left. Fran wanted to leave too but Maxwell took her arm.
"Miss Fine wait."
"What is it Mr. Sheffield?"
"I want to confess something to you. When the bureau for exchange students called to ask me what kind of student we preferred I told them about you."
"You did?"
"I told them how you had the special ability to make kids with problems real kids again. They said that they would keep that in mind when they selected someone for us. And it is obvious I was right. Sara isn't totally alright, but at least she has some confidence in herself, and she smiles."
"Oh Mr. Sheffield thank you so much. You don't know what it means to me to hear you say that." She kissed him on his cheek. Maxwell put his hands on her cheeks and gently kissed her on her lips. Just before they could go any further CC entered. Fran quickly jumped back, and they both straightened their clothes. CC wasn't sure how to react. She turned around to get a cup of coffee.
"Miss Fine?" Fran went back over to Maxwell, to get right back where they left of.
"Yes, Mr. Sheffield?"
"Would you go out with me?"
"Anytime."
"Pick you up at eight?"
"Sure." Fran turned around very sexy and went up to her room.
CC sat at the kitchen table when Sara entered. She had heard some pretty juicy stories about her. But she didn't seem as bad as they described her. She seemed very alone. Sara decided to go over and talk to her.
"CC, is it ok if I call you CC?"
"Yeah, what the hell. I'm not going to stay around here very long anyway."
"What do you mean?"
"What do you care? You're only a kid. What would you know about these sort of things?"
"Maybe I don't know anything. Maybe everybody was right. Maybe you are coldhearted. But I don't believe that. Because I knew truly coldhearted people. And you have more love in your eyes then my entire family had in theirs." CC looked surprised. She had heard a little bit about this girls past, and she had to admit it was bad. But she was a kid and would get over it. Just like she did. Although CC's childhood wasn't as bad as Sara's, she wasn't loved at all. Her own mother didn't even know who she was. And that hurt. But she learned to get over it. And now this kid made her remember all the pain. But somehow she couldn't yell and tell her to scram. This kid somehow had enchanted her.
"I guess you're right. You are first one to notice. You know become so accustomed to be called cold hearted that I started to believe I was."
"But you aren't"
"No. But I can be pretty nasty if I don't get what I want. And it is so much easier than being nice."
"I believe that if you don't try, you are not worth it. I mean if you
want it, it's right in front of you. While there are so many people who
known never such a wonderful family like this. And I really believe that
if you are willing to change, they will give you the love you deserve.
I mean I only know them a couple of days, and they like me." Sara smiled
and put her hands over CC's. Then she stood and went upstairs to have that
talk with Fran.
Niles entered the kitchen, and was surprised by what he saw. CC was actually smiling.
"Miss Babcock, are you ok?" A question to which she usually replied 'What do you care?'.
"Yes Niles, actually I'm feeling better then I have in years."
"What?" Niles was so surprised he forgot to insult her.
"I just had a talk with Sara, and she made me realize what a fool I have been."
"How come?" Niles became very interested and sat besides her.
"Well, she said that if you want to love and be loved, you have to try, otherwise you're not worth it. And I know I haven't tried. So that's going to change. No more insults Niles. Well, I don't think I can live without them, but I want you to know I never meant anything I said. I think you are very kind and loving, and very beautiful too."
"Thank you, I guess."
"Niles? Would you like to go out with me sometime?"
"Uhm, yes, off course."
"I'll get back to you, for the details." CC stood and walked to the
door. She turned around and blew Niles a kiss. Then she left for the office.
Sara knocked on Fran's door.
"Come in. Oh Sara. I was cleaning out my closet. Please sit on the bed if you can find a spot." Her entire room was covered with clothes.
"What I want to talk to you about. I know you had problems in your past and I respect it if you don't want to tell us anything about it. But as you've experienced today, it can cause some problems."
"I was prepared for this. I will let you read my diaries of the past years. But only if you promise not to tell anybody who doesn't need to know. If you think it's necessary that Maxwell knows too, he can read them too. But not Maggie and certainly not Gracie. I also don't want sympathy. No treating me like a baby, and not saying particular words around me. I also don't want to talk about it, unless it is absolutely necessary."
"I think that's fair, and also very good." Sara went back to her room and got the two diaries. One was a little burned at the sides.
"Here are they."
"May I ask what happened to this one?"
"My uncle and his friends were bored one time and they decided it would be fun to set my room on fire, with me in it. Look here is a scar of the burns I had." She pointed to her arm.
"I don't want to be here when you read it so I'm going out with B, ok?"
"Yes that's fine." Fran thought that she would read the first diary,
and then hand it to Maxwell. She felt that he needed to know too. Maybe
he would control his anger. She started to read.
Brighton and Sara went to a cafe to play pool. After that they went to the cinema, to a very romantic movie.
They sat very close to each other, and Brighton had his arm around her. All of the sudden Sara looked up at Brighton, who was looking down at her. Sara kissed him. Suddenly Sara turned around. She was so scared. Brighton put his hands on her shoulders.
"D? Are you ok?"
"Yes, but... I'm scared B. I think I love you, and I know you would never hurt me. But I'm scared." She turned around and hugged Brighton.
"D, I would never ever hurt you. And if you don't want a relationship with me, I'll wait. Because I love you too, and feel I should respect your feelings."
"Thank you." They left the movie and walked.
Fran was reading the last pages of the first diary. She was crying. What horrible things this girl had to go through. When she had finished it she went to the office.
"Mr. Sheffield? I need to talk to you about Sara." Maxwell looked up, and saw the tears in Fran's eyes. He went over to comfort her.
"Miss Fine? Are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine. I talked to Sara and told her that it would be best if someone else in the house knew about what happened to her. She understood, and let me read her diary. I think you should read it too."
"But is it ok with Sara?" Maxwell was a little hesitant, but also wanted to understand her.
"Yes. She said that if I felt is was necessary it was ok. And I do. I understand her so much better now. But she made up some rules for me, and I think you should keep to them too. You must promise not to tell anybody who doesn't need to know. Maggie and Gracie don't have to know. She also doesn't want sympathy. No treating her like a baby, and not saying particular words around her. She doesn't want to talk about it, unless it is absolutely necessary. I thought they were very fair."
"Ok I will read it." Fran handed Maxwell the diary.
"By the way, where did Miss Babcock go? I hope she wasn't to troubled by what she saw."
"I don't think so. She asked the day off. I couldn't keep my mind on business so I let her go."
"Oh." Fran went back upstairs to read the second diary.
CC was in the city, shopping for a new outfit. She was amazed by Sara.
She had accomplished something the therapist couldn't do in years. She
made her love again. And CC felt so much better now. She made a date with
Niles. Because now she wasn't as afraid anymore to show what she felt.
Like love for a butler for example.
Brighton and Sara decided to walk home. She needed to relax a little. They saw CC coming out of a store on Fifth Avenue.
"B, look there's CC. Come on let's say hi."
"No way. She's a cold-hearted bitch. And why do you call her CC?"
"She is a very nice person. She just had some problems expressing herself. And I call her CC because she didn't tell me not to." They went over to CC.
"Hey CC. How are you?"
"Hi Sara, Brighton. I'm ok thank you." Brighton was very surprised when he realized she had remembered his first name.
"I was just shopping for some new clothes. I'm going out on a date tonight."
"I hope you have a good time. B and I have to go."
"Thank you. And Sara?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for giving me a chance."
"No problem." Brighton and Sara went to a little cafe. It was only three
o'clock so they decided to go shopping.
They walked in front of a little obscure shop. Sara looked in the window. There laid the most beautiful necklace she ever saw. It was an abstract woman figure. It was beautiful but also very expensive. Brighton saw her looking at the necklace.
"Do you like that neck lace?"
"I love it."
"Let's go in and try it on." They went inside and Sara tried on the necklace. It looked like it was made for her.
"Miss, this necklace was made for you. It fits exactly."
"Yes, and I love it. But it's too expensive. I cannot afford it." Sara sadly took of the necklace. She felt like she was somehow connected with it. Brighton saw the way she looked at it. And he had the money to buy it.
"Miss, could please put that back on her neck?"
"B? What are doing?"
"I want to give you the necklace."
"No I can't except that. It's way too expensive."
"But I have the money, and I want you to have something from me. I know you love the neck lace, and I love you, so you have to except it." Brighton paid and they left the store. They went to Central Park. They sat down on a bench. It was a beautiful sunny summer’s day.
"B, I want to thank you for this necklace. It means a lot to me."
"That's ok. I love you, and nothing's to good for my baby."
"You are so sweet. I love you too." They kissed. This time Sara was
not scared. She knew that she could trust him with her life.
Maxwell hadn't cried in a very long time. And he wasn't crying now. But he was close to tears. What this girl had to endure. He personally wanted to go and beat up all these guys that did that to her. And he wasn't a violent person.
Fran had come downstairs and was reading in the office. She had just finished the second diary. She wasn't crying anymore, but she felt very bad inside. Maxwell closed the diary.
"What do you think?" Fran asked while she sat on the desk.
"I think that it's horrible, and I feel very sorry for the girl. I really hate the guys that did that to her."
"Yeah me too." They sat there, staring, thinking about what a good life they had, though all the problems they had.
"Maxwell?" Fran carefully used his first name.
"Yes?" Maxwell didn't even notice.
"Could you hold me?" Maxwell stood and held Fran. They felt so secure in each other’s arms.
"Max, I know that it's bad what happened, but we can't let affect our lives this much. It happened in the past, and as long as she's here it will not happen again. We needed to understand her, and I feel I do now." Fran broke the embrace a little and looked in his eyes.
"Fran, you don't need much to understand a person." There was a silence, to think about what he said. He carefully leaned forward and gave her a tender, loving kiss.
"I love you." His words were very soft, but Fran only had to look in his eyes to see how very true they were.
"I love you too." And to prove it she gave him another kiss.
Sara and Brighton entered the kitchen from the back door. They wanted to go upstairs when Niles entered the kitchen.
"Sara, can I speak with you for a minute?" Niles asked.
"Sure Niles. B, why don't go upstairs and wait for me."
"Ok babe." He said and gave her a sweet kiss on the cheek. Niles and Sara sat down at the kitchen table.
"What is it Niles?"
"Well I know you talked to Miss Babcock. And I was wondering what you said, because she is another person."
"I just said that she was stupid. Because she was complaining that nobody loved her, while she had the most loving family I've ever know around her."
"You did something to her, that her therapists couldn't do in twenty years. That I couldn't do."
"I just let her be who she really is."
"Thank you."
"Why? What does it have to do with you?"
"We're finally going out on a date."
"Oh. I hope you have a nice time." Sara went upstairs to Brighton's
room.
The dinner table was empty that evening. Fran, Maxwell, CC, Niles, Sara, Brighton and Maggie were going out for dinner, and Gracie was sleeping at a friend. Brighton and Sara were going on a double date with Maggie and Gene.
When Fran and the girls took Sara shopping they also bought her a beautiful evening gown. She didn't know if she should wear it tonight. She decided it was best to ask Maggie. She went over to Maggie's door and knocked.
"Who is it?"
"Me, Sara."
"Come in." Sara went in.
"Maggie? What kind of clothes should I wear this evening?"
"I'm wearing a short skirt."
"Ok. I'm going to change now."
"Wait Sara. I wanted to ask you. What's going on between you and Brighton?"
"Back in Holland I used to chat with this guy. We were really close friends, and I kinda loved him. I knew he lived here in New York, and I wanted to meet him. It turned out this guy kinda loved me too. He was B. So now we really love each other."
"I guess he does. You know the past year he had no girl friends, because he said he all ready had one. It must have been you. It seems pretty serious."
"It is. Look he bought me this neck lace today." Sara showed her the necklace.
"It's beautiful. You know he is my brother, and I hate him in a brother/sister kind of way, but I never expect this of him. He must really love you."
"Yeah, and I really love him."
"You should show it to Fran. She always wants to know all the gossip in the house."
"Ok. See you tonight." Sara left and went to Fran's room. She knocked.
"Come in." Fran was in her robe and sat at her make-up table.
"Oh hi Sara. Is something wrong?" Fran was still thinking about the diaries, but she didn't say a word, just as she promised.
"No I just wanted to show you something." Sara showed her the necklace.
"It's beautiful, and it fits you so well. Where did you get it?"
"B bought it for me, because he loves me."
"Wow. That boy keeps surprising me. So you two are a couple now?"
"Yeah."
"What happened? I wanna now every little detail."
"First we went to this romantic movie. We kissed but I was too scared to finish so I backed out. We walked out of the movie. We came past this little store and I saw this necklace in the window. I fell in love with it but it was too expensive for me. Then B told me he loved me and he bought it for me. I told him I loved him too and now we're a couple."
"I wish it was at easy for me and Maxwell."
"What do you mean? He loves you. It's so evident."
"Yeah that ain't the problem."
"Then what's the problem?"
"The commitment. It took him four years to tell me that he loved me. Today he finally did it. I bet it takes another four to get engaged, and another four to get married. He ain't the fastest man I know."
"I think if you love him, and he loves you it is worth the wait. At least you know he loves you. That's a lot."
"I guess your right. And I am extremely happy that he told me that he loves me."
"I have to get ready for my date with B tonight, so I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"Have fun."
"Thanks and you too." Sara left to get ready.
Brighton, Sara, Maggie and Gene went to this trendy new club called Twenty-Four Seven. And although they weren't old enough, the name Sheffield let them all in. Maggie and Gene loved it, but Sara hated it. It was much too loud, and there were drunk people. B had left to get some drinks when a man in his late twenties came up to her. He was clearly drunk.
"Hey babe. Would you like some company tonight?"
"No, and please leave. My boyfriend can be back any minute now."
"He doesn't have to know"
"I said no."
"Come on just one little kiss." And he pressed himself against Sara. She wanted to kick him, but she was paralyzed with fear. She tried to scream, but no sound came out of her throat.
"Excuse me, but I believe the lady said no." A very big man, who would other wise scare her, pulled the drunk man of Sara. The man walked away.
"Are you ok?" He asked. Sara was only able to nod.
"D? What happened?" Brighton had come back and saw the fear in her eyes.
"This drunk guy was pushing himself against her, although she clearly said no. I told him no again." The big guy said.
"Thank you very much."
"No problem." And the big guy left.
"Oh my poor baby." Brighton opened his arms and Sara fell into them, crying.
"Come on, we're going home. I saw Maggie, and she said that we didn't
have to wait for her and Gene." Brighton and Sara walked out and took a
cab home.
Niles had insisted that he'd take CC out, his treat, but CC would have none of it. She was the one who'd asked him, so she'd be the one who'd pay. CC had rented a limousine with driver to drive them around town. They would have dinner, and then it depended on how well it went where they would go next. CC arrived at the mansion and let the driver get Niles.
"Yes?" Niles opened the door. He was wearing a tuxedo, but it looked real chic.
"Miss Babcock is waiting for you in the limousine sir."
"Yes, thank you." Niles got his coat and went to the limousine. He got in and sat next to CC.
"That was strange."
"What?"
"He called me sir. Usually I'm the one to call someone sir. Like you for example." Niles tried to insult her, but it was hard to insult a beautiful woman. Especially when you are in love with her, and she wears a incredible sexy dress.
"Niles, that doesn't work."
"I know." They sat in silence. They had been hateful to each other for the past ten years, they didn't know how to act nice. They arrived at the restaurant. The chauffeur opened the door of the car and Niles helped CC out. When she stood he looked at her. She was wearing a long sparkling black gown, and she had a feather boa around her neck.
"What do you think?"
"I love it. It's so different."
"Don't you think it's too different." CC became very uncertain. Niles
saw her uneasiness.
"No. It fits you." Niles took CC's arm and they went inside.
Fran was in her room. She was almost ready. She only had check herself in the mirror. She looked beautiful. She wore a long and tight velvet dark purple dress. She also wore long purple velvet gloves. Her hair was not as high, and the make-up wasn't as flashy as usual. She decided it was time to go downstairs.
Maxwell was waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. He looked up
to see a vision coming down the stairs. He actually felt breathless for
a moment. He helped her into her coat. They went into the limo.
"Fran, you look beautiful." Maxwell said when the limo drove of.
"Thank you."
"I love you." Fran almost got tears in her eyes.
"I love you too." They kissed very tenderly.
Niles and CC sat at a dinner table. They were eating desert and laughing about some of the jokes they pulled on each other. The band started to play a slow song. Niles took CC's hand.
"Would you grant me the first dance of the evening miss?"
"Off course." Niles and CC had danced before, but it had never been so natural, so physical. At the end of the dance they decided to go.
They were walking. They were going nowhere, and had all the time off the world to get there.
Suddenly Niles stopped and pulled CC in his arms. He kissed her very passionately. When they were finished Niles turned around. He knew that CC had changed, but that didn't mean she liked him. He felt a hand on his shoulder. He slowly turned around, not looking in her eyes.
"Niles? Why did you that?" CC felt insecure too. But she didn't want to let it end.
"Because, well, I.... I've always..... Since I met you...." CC took his hands and he looked in her eyes and gained the confidence he needed.
"CC Babcock, I love you." CC flew in his arms and kissed him more passionate than before. She was al over him.
"Niles, I dreamt you would say those words to me. I wished it, but the real thing feels so good. I love you too." She took his hand and called a cab.
"Where are we going?" Niles asked, very happy.
"To my apartment. We need to talk, amongst other things."
"But....okay." They got in the cab and left for CC's apartment.
The End
Go on to Trouble Holiday
