"Guess what everyone?" Max asked. "What?" Niles and Fran asked. "We are going to Texas!" Max said. "Texas?" "What on earth for?" Fran asked. "For the set of my newest production, Fran!" Max said. My backers think it would give me a good feel for the next play."Max said.

"We are going to spend time on a ranch, and do many things cowboys and cowgirls do and did in the West." Max said. "Oh honey, this is great, but you know I don't like roughing it." Fran said.

"Darling, don't worry, I am sure we can lodge in places along the way some." Max said. "Oh, one more thing, We are all wearing western attire." he said. "Oh no, Maxwell Sheffield, me in boots?" "A western hat?" "It would mess up my poof." she said. "Well, darling, we are going, so get used to the idea." Max said.

"Well, let's shop, so we can get what we need." Fran said. "No, Fran, we will get those things from a real Texas shop, so we can look our most Texan." Max said. "Max, this isn't fair." Fran said. "Sweetheart, my mind is made up, and end of discussion." Max said.

"Alright, but I don't have to like it." she said. "Oooh yes you do, Fran, I will not have you pouting around the whole time, got it?" Max asked. "Yes, Max." she said, as she rolled her eyes at him. Max hugs her and gives her a kiss.

"Well, won't you look sexy in western attire, Max?" Fran said. "I love the way you look in jeans anyway." she said. Max recalls the time she saw him in jeans the first time. "Yes, and you made me think I had something on the seat, just to look at me, didn't you?" Fran blushed, "well can't blame a girl for looking." she said.

"Fran, darling, do you think your mother will take the twins for the two weeks we will be gone?" Max asked. "yes, Honey, but 2 weeks?" "I will miss my babies." she said. "Well, Fran, we can call each day, and talk with them." Max said.

"Well, Ma did say she wants to spend more time with her grandchildren, since it took so long to ge them." Fran said poking Max in the ribs. "Well, we have made up for lost time, haven't we?" Max asked. Fran smiles, darn right, mista!" she said.

They laugh, and fran calls her mother. Sylvia is glad for the chance to have the twins over. She was a proud Grandma, and loved fussing over the twins. Jonah and Eve are two now, and into everything.

"Great Ma, I will bring them over the night before we leave, alright?" Fran said. "Sure, honey, I love you." Sylvia said. Fran said she loves her to. "Thanks Ma." she said.

Fran was adjusting to the idea of the trip, and she had hoped to have time with Max to, to snuggle, and have romantic times with him, and remember it, for years to come.

Finally the day arrives, and they are off to the airport. CC is coming, she will be a key player in the events. Fran and Niles laughed picturing her in western gear, and they would soon see it.Niles loves picking on his wife, and their little girl, Maddie, was going to stay with relatives while her parents were away.

The plane takes off, and the destination, is Laredo, Tx. Grace slept on the way and Fran did to. Brighton and Maggie were in Paris, and it was Niles and CC, Fran and Max and Grace.

Max wakes Fran up, "Time to eat, Sweetheart." Grace wakes up to. They have a nice meal on the plane, and Fran was glad, she was hungry and could never pass a good meal.

"Niles, I can't wait to see you in western attire." CC said. "Ditto, CC." he said, kissing her. "Niles, you animal!" CC said, Niles was tracing her skirt with his hands. He pulls her closer and kisses her again. "Stick with me, Babcock, and I will never let you get away." he said.

CC liked it when Niles would show her this kind of playful attention. She recalls when he would flirt with her before they ever got together. She recalls the time he made her cluck like a chicken, when she thought it was Max. She laughs.

"I got you back, didn't I? " she grins. "Niles recalls when he was caught doing his Tom Cruise thing in the living room when CC walked in and caught him. She held it over his head forever. Max would have teased him had he known.

"Shh, he may hear you." Niles said, his face red from embarrassment. "It's alright, Niles, your secret is safe." CC said. she giggles. Max turns and looks at the gigglers. "Alright you two, waith until you get your lodging." Max said.

CC and Niles laughs and snuggles a while. Max thinks they are silly, but he is glad they found each other and are happy. "Look at those two." he said. "Yeah, isn't it great, honey?" Fran said, as she pops the last bite of her chicken in her mouth.

They arrive shortly after , and collect their luggage. Max didn't want Fran taking too much luggage, so she didn't. "Darling, you won't need as much makeup out there." Max said. "I know, honey, but I never know when I need to look my best." she said.

"Darling, you look good no matter." Max said. "thank you, honey." she said. He gives her a quick peck. They get to the dude ranch, and everyone was getting settled in. A lady named Maggie was their host, and she was a sight. Fran loved her accent. She was a Texan thru and thru.

Her handshake was firm, and she didn't mind saying it like it is. "Lands, sake, where are my manners, yall come in for some iced tea and vittles." she said. Fran wondered, "Vittles?" "I hope it is good, she said to herself.

She was relieved vittles was a slang term meaning food. The meal was great, and Fran loved the iced tea. For dessert, Maggie had apple pie for them. The atmosphere was great, and the weather, hot, but tolerable.

"Now, I want to warn you folks about the rattlesnakes and coyotes. Fran was frozen. "Max, we didn't sign up for this." she said. "Relax Fran, it will be alright." he said. "It is never ok to go alone anywhere, always be watchful." Maggie warns.

Fran grips Max's arm tighter. "Oh, honey, I don't like the sound of this." Fran said. "relax, Fran, it will be fine." he said. "We must stay together and make sure we have our guides with us. " Max said.

Night was falling, and Max and Fran, CC and Niles, and Grace went to their cabins. Grace had her own room, and she was happy with it. Max started a fire in the fireplace, it was cool at night, and hot in the daytime. Grace fell asleep, and Max and Fran had a nice time by the fire, talking, and sharing kisses, and then making love.

The next morning, after breakfast, it was time to get the western attire they would need. Fran couldn't wait to see Max in jeans and a western hat and jeans /shirt the works. Max was looking forward to seeing her in them as well. He always liked the way Fran could fill out a pair of jeans.

Fran chose some western skirts to. She had her western boots, and shirts, jeans, the works. She chose a hat, and decided if she had to do this, she would wear her hair in a pontytail, forget the usual poof, and curl. It simply wouldn't do in this case.

She dreaded the saddle soreness. She knew how to ride, thanks to Max, but the saddle soreness, "ow.". She finished shopping, and then changed into western wear for the ride home. The backers were coming, and guides, and everyone had to look the part.

Max though Fran looked adorable, and she liked the way he looked. "Oy, the boots, can't get used to them." she said. It would be long days, wearing the boots. Max would catch Fran taking her boots off, and scorn, "Fran, put them back on." "Max, they hurt." she said. He would rub her feet, and then she'd put them back on.

Things went well the first week. The backers were happy, and all was well. Fran and Maggie took time to go for a ride. Max didn't want Fran going, but Fran said she'd be careful. Maggie's horse was spooked, and bucked Maggie off. A rattlesnake!"Oh my God!" Fran said. She rushed to Maggie's aid.

The snake was killed by the horse stomping around. Fran was relieved. She gives Maggie some water, and Maggie had had the wind knocked out of her, but otherwise ok. Max was worried, he wanted them found, and soon, the calvary, which consisited of Max, Niles, CC, the guides, came rushing in.

They were found, and Max scolds Fran, but he was glad she was ok. "Honey, I couldn't leave her, and we didn't want to tire my horse out." she said. Max was soon over being angry, he knew it could have ended worse, and was glad all was alright.

The following week went smooth for the most part, they did plenty of touring, camping, and riding horses. CC and Fran were miserable with saddle soreness, the guys had to tolerate their moodiness over it. Every evening, the girls would apply ointment to their blistering tails.

The last few days were spent with the guys out and the girls at the ranch. Max told Fran to stay put, and Fran didn't want to, she wanted to do some more riding. "No, Fran, stay put, I don't want anything to happen to you." he said. "Alright, Max." she said. Max knew his wife , and so he had Buster, a ranch hand, keep an eye on her for him.

Fran felt like she knew the area well enough to launch out on her own. She was a little afraid, but she wouldn't go out at night. Buster saw Fran sneaking away, and followed her. He caught up with her, and told her, "Your husband told me to keep an eye on you, and you're stuck with me." he said.

Fran didn't like it. "You can go, I will be fine."Fran said. "No maa'm, I have my orders." he said. "Alright, then atleast I will have someone to talk with. Fran and Buster went to where Max was. Max was not happy with Fran, but was glad to see they were alright. "thanks, Buster, for riding with her." Max said.

When Max was on a break, he phoned Maggie to let her know Fran was with him. Grace was hanging out with Maggie and would be fine. Max would send Fran back to be with Grace anyway. "Fran, darling, you're not staying long." Max said. "Max, i want to be with you." she said.

"You're already trying my patience, Fran." Max said. Fran knew what he meant, and she didn't like it. "You are so bent on doing things when I specifically said no." Max said. "I am not going to allow it Fran." Max said. "Your safety is too important to be careless." he said.

Max had the guides bring Fran back to the Ranch. "I will deal with you later, Fran." Max said. "Now, go on, and no more running off." he said. "alright." Fran said. Max kissed her, and she headed out. A short time later, Max was bucked off of his horse. he was bruised a little. He wrapped things up early, and headed back to the ranch.

Fran was glad to hear Max was alright. She hugged him. "Not so tight, Fran, my ribs." he said. "Oh, sorry, honey." she said. Max used ice packs, and soon was feeling better. "Now, about your shenanigans today, Fran." he said.

Fran tried changing the subject. "No, we are discussing this." Max said. "If I tell you something, it is because I am looking out for you." Max said. "You mean everything to me, Fran." he said. "I know, honey." she said. "I am sorry." she said. "Well, you know sorry isn't enough." he said. "I know." Fran said.

Max dealt with her, then they went to sleep. Fran was sorry she went against her husband's wishes. He had forgiven her, and made good on his promise. Fran knew the rest of the trip needed to go on without a hitch. Atleast on her part.

The next two days went well, and Max kept Fran on her toes, he had Maggie keep her busy with chores to do, and he knew she would not be tempted to ride off on her own again. Fran wasn't going to anyway, but resolved to helping Maggie out, after all, they are guests, and she should do her share.

Fran enjoyed the cat Maggie had. CC had brought Chester, and he liked the cat. A big fluffy gray cat, they called Smokey. Smokey and Chester would play all day. Fran would laugh at them. Maggie taught Fran how to milk a cow, and Fran had fun with it. She would try and sing, and the cow would swiss her tail in disgust, Fran's voice, wasn't to her liking.

Which made Fran laugh more. "Oh, Sally, noone likes my voice, except my husband, and only if I don't sing." she said. Maggie laughed to. Chester would put his paws over his ears if he hears Fran sing. Again, it was hilarious, and made the women laugh.

Grace was laughing to. Maggie fixed lunch, and by now everyone was ready to eat. "Maggie, I am going to miss you." Fran said. "Honey, you are going to be missed as well." she said. "We don't get many visitors here." Maggie said. "You're a sight for sore eyes, Francine." she said, giving Fran a hug. "Thank you, Maggie.' Fran said.

"I heard Maxwell was upset with you for running off, as well as he should be." Maggie said. "What in tarnation were you a thinkin?" she asked Fran. "Oh, not you to?" Fran said. Max already has taken care of the matter, and I am well sorry for it." Fran said. "Well, good, he cares, and so do I." Maggie said.

Maggie didn't press it anymore, she had a pretty good suspicion Max did handle it. "You have a nice husband, dearie." she said. "Yes, I do, wouldn't trade him for all the vittles you have." Fran said. The two laughed.

It was time to go, and they said their goodbyes, and Fran was glad to go back to regular clothing. She had chaffed something feirce, and was glad for her skirts and regular shoes. Max could tell Fran was glad to head home. "Honey, Maggie and I had fun, and she is a good friend. " "Could we invite her our way sometime?" she asked.

"Great idea, Fran, we will." Max said. They arrived home, and Fran and Max unpacked. Fran slept for a good while, and she was glad the trip was over. She rubs her behind, "no more saddle soreness."
