It was another day at the bridal shop--Fran waiting for Danny to propose and Val, well, being Val. Fran and Danny had been together for about three years and Fran was a little worried wondering if Danny was going to propose at all.
Well, after Fran and Val closed up the shop even though Danny wasn't there--like always. He was never there for closing.Val took her car home and Fran decided to walk home. As she walked she saw Danny's Car parked in front of a diner, so she went in to join him. She saw he was there with Heather Biblow! Fran ran out crying and ran to her mother's. Fran decided to break up with Danny because he was a waste of time.
About five weeks later, Fran had a job on Broadway designing outfits that her cousin Toddy had given her. She was happy but she was missing something. She was lonely and she needed someone.
Fran was at work when she got a call from Sheffield & Babcock Productions. They asked if she could design their custumes because they had heard that Fran was the best in the area. Fran agreed to meet them the next day at 12:00 for lunch at the Rainbow Room.
The next day Fran was on her way to meet these producers at the Rainbow Room. When she arrived she got into the elevator with this gorgeous guy. He had wavy black hair with a small highlight of gray in the front which made the black more apparent. He had beautiful green eyes, was about 6 feet tall and wore a black suit, very professional. When Fran heard him speak, asking what floor he wanted, she noticed his sexy, british accent.
When she reached the Rainbow Room, she and this hot guy got out and they both went into the room. He got a table and put his name in as Sheffield & Babcock. Fran then realized this was Maxwell Sheffield, Broadway producer. She never thought a guy in his 40s could look that good. When she asked the hostess if Sheffield and Babcock had arrived, she already knew the answer.
The hostess led her to the table. Maxwell was standing, holding out her chair like a gentleman.Then they both had a seat. He introduced himself. Fran did also. They had a good time and she agreed to design the costumes. She would come to his house for the next meeting in about two days.
Two days passed too slowly for Fran because she had developed a small crush on this Maxwell guy. When Fran got up, she started getting ready to go to Maxwell's house for the meeting. She didnt know what to wear so she just picked something sexy, but professional. After she spent about an hour getting ready, she got in her car and made her way to Manhattan. When Fran got to his house she rang the doorbell and a butler answered the door. The butler asked he could take her coat. She complied and introduced herself.
He said "hello, I'm Niles, the butler. Mr. Sheffield will be out in a moment."
Mr. Sheffield was out in a couple seconds. Today he was wearing a pair of black pants and a white button-up with a green tie that matched his eyes.
Fran and Max went into his office where she showed him some of her ideas. He loved them. Fran felt that he kind of liked her too, but wasnt going to really go any further with it.
When the meeting was over, Maxwell was about to show Fran out when Gracie came running by. She stopped by Maxwell and he asked what she was doing. She said running from Brighton. They were playing tag and he was "it." Brighton came running too. Fran stopped him. She said to take a breather because both kids were out of breath. Once they both asked who Fran was, their father introduced her. Out of the corner of her eye, Fran caught Maxwell staring at her.
Brighton and Gracie said hi and continued their game. Maggie then came in asking her dad if she could have some money. He introduced Maggie to Fran. Fran commented on Maggie's beautiful blonde hair and Maggie, of course, already liked her.
When Fran left the house, she went to meet Val for their movie night. They had one every two weeks. It used to be once a week but Fran's new job kept her too busy. They met at the movie theatre in Great Neck. The girls decided to watch a romantic movie "Must Love Dogs." After the movie they decided to go to Frans apartment which was not too far away. They had a small nosh and then Val went home. Fran showered and went to bed.
The next morning she had to go to work at Maxwell's theater in Manhattan to design costumes for the fifth scene in Act 2 if his new play. When she got there, she walked up to the stage and saw Maxwell showing the actors how to do the one scene. He was wearing a pair of tan pants and a black button-up today. The black matched his black hair and made his green eyes shine.
When he got down off the stage, Maxwell saw Fran. He called for a five-minute break and he went to talk to her. Maxwell asked Fran if she would like to join him for lunch at the Russian Tea Room. She was jumping and screaming on the inside but she just said "sure, what time?"
He smiled and said "12:40 tomorrow."
When she got home that night, she ordered in. She called Val and told her about her date tomorrow with Maxwell. Fran was so excited and happy. It was about midnight till she actually fell asleep.
She got up the next day about 9:50 and took a shower. She ate breakfast and decided to stop by her mother's before her date with Maxwell. She needed to calm her nerves--she was a nervous wreck!
It was already 12 noon when she decided to head to the Russian Tea room. She drove to Manhattan were she met Max in front of Tea Room. He caught sight of Fran and walked over, grabbed her hand, kissed it, and said hello. Fran said hello and they walked to the elevator. They both couldn't help but stare. They had a connection. They liked each other, but the question was :how much?.
Maxwell held out Fran's chair and let her sit. They shared some small talk until the server came. They ordered wine and then they talked about their childhood, how Maxwell came from Great Britian, how Fran had grown up in Flushing, Queens.
It was about 1:30 when they had to leave and get back to work at the theatre. They had a great time together. They started to think about each other alot. They went on more dates. Fran would join Maxwell and his children at his house. He would also come over to Fran's apartment for dinner.
Fran bonded with the kids. They started to really like Fran. Maxwell began to love Fran but hadn't admitted it yet. Fran loved Maxwell too, but was afraid to admit it. They would keep it that way until they knew they were both ready.
About eight months aftedr they begand dating, Fran was at her apartment waiting for Maxwell to arrive for dinner. She made it romantic but not too romantic. She had music, fire, candles, and the lights were dimmed.
Then she heard a knock at the door. I would be Max. She answered it and they shared a kiss. During dinner, they talked normally at first but then the conversation got more intimite. They held hands while they were talking. After dinner, they decided to go into the living room and watch a movie. They both didn't know what the movie was because they were too busy staring at each other. Max laid a kiss on Fran's lips. It got more passionate until Fran broke it and grabbed Max's hand and led him to the bedroom.
The next morning they woke up in each other's arms. Max was first to wake up and he saw Fran's beautiful face. Without makeup she looked beautiful to Max. Then she woke up and Max saw a small smile spread across her face They laid there for awhile until it was time to got to work.
During their lunch break, they joined each other at the diner a couple of blocks down. Fran was now Maxwell's offical designer, working directly for him now.
They have been going together for a year now. They decided to move in together. The kids loved the idea. Fran was becoming like a mother to them since their mother had died. Fran and Niles, the butler, also got along well.
After a couple of months living together, Maxwell asked Fran on a vacation to Paris--his favorite city. She loved the idea. They had a great time together, The more time they spent together, the more they loved each other more every minute.
Maxwell planned to propose to Fran in Paris. He did and they were engaged in Paris. When they arrived home Maxwell gave the family the good news. They already knew what he was going to do--Niles told them, of course!!
Three months later, Maxwell and Fran were married and happy. About five months after the wedding Fran was pregnant. When the tweins were born, she named them Eve Katherine Sheffield and Jonah Sheffield
