Maxwell was sitting at his desk plowing through all the paperwork. He sighed as he put the pen down. It was amazing how the paperpile seemed to grow each day. He smiled as a memory came to him. A recent memory. He and Miss Fine had unexpectedly walked in on Niles and C.C. kissing. That wasn't the memory he had smiled at although seeing those two in a lip lock didn't exactly happen every day. No what he had smiled at was when afterwards he talked to Miss Fine. She looked so beautiful. He caught himself staring into those beautuful brown eyes of hers. It was at that moment he had felt an urge to kiss her. Of course that hadn't happend, but how he wished it had. They had kissed before, but Maxwell really didn't count those as 'real'. Well, they were real but still not. He wondered, if anything would ever happen between himself and Miss Fine. Probably not. Miss Fine seemed perfectly happy dating that guy she meet on a shopping spree. Sighing Maxwell returned to the paperwork and put his thought's of Miss Fine aside ... for now. At that moment C.C. came walking in with some papers in her hand.
"Oh god don't tell me it's more?" Max asked C.C. as soon as he saw her.
"Don't worry. I'll take care of these." She said waving the papers in her hand.
Max smiled before returning to work with his own papers, as C.C. walked out on the terrace and seated herself by the table. She started reading a business contract without really seeing the words. Sighing, she put the contract on the table, and her thought's started to wander. It had been a couple of days since it had happend. Sure, they had both been drunk but still ... they had kissed. The maid kissed her, and what suprised her more is that she kissed him back. It had been the most exciting thing that had happend to her in days. Ok, in weeks. The following day they had acted like nothing had happend, but something had happend. At least to her. She had never felt the same way about Niles since that night. She acted like she always did, but inside she had changed, and she knew she would never be the same again. Niles hadn't been affected the same way she had. If he had, he wouldn't be dating that red haired bimbo named Gladys. Frowning she took the contract in her hands again and decided not to think about.......him..... anymore.
"Mr Sheffield, here's your mail." Niles said as he entered the office.
"Thank you, Niles." He took the letters from Niles and began opening them.
Niles looked out to the terrace and saw C.C. sitting there. Apparently she hadn't heard him come in. A flashback came to his mind. Of a kiss. Shared not so long ago. He remembered every detail. Especially the kiss. He knew, it had been a risk but he just had to kiss her, and he was suprised that she had responded.
Suprised but glad. He knew he had dreamt of it for so long, but the reality was far better then the dreams. They had acted like nothing had happend after that, and that saddened Niles. She hadn't noticed, but the day after he had purposly stayed close to her. To get a chance to talk to her, but there was always something that came in the way. Mr Sheffield, Miss Fine, Sylvia, Val. He looked at her sitting out there on the terrace. Her long legs under a black short skirt. He had found himself looking at her a lot lately. He shrugged, as he turned to look at Mr Sheffield again. Wasn't it something he forgot. Walking out from the office Niles took one more look at C.C. and therefore almost bumped into Fran in the hall.
"Sorry, Miss Fine."
"No damage done." Fran smiled at Niles, who smiled back before countinuing to the livingroom.
Fran stopped at the office dorway and looked at her boss sitting at his desk. Oy, he was such a hunk of a man. She remembered the night a couple of days ago after catching Niles and Miss Babcock going at it. Thank God, they didn't come home later. Fran remembered the look Mr Sheffield had had in his eyes, as he had looked at her. There was some serious wanting in that look, and she would have been happy to give him whatever he had wanted. Why was he so dense? They would have made beautiful music together. Fran was sure of it.
"Miss Fine?"
Fran snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of Maxwells voice. "Yes, Mr Sheffield?" Fran said, as she walked in.
"Is there something you wanted?"
"Ehh ... Yeah did Niles ask you?"
"No. Ask me what?"
"Well, Niles and I wanted to take tomorrow evening off. If that's Ok with you, Mr Sheffield?"
"Why, of course." Maxwell was glad, she wasn't going to spend the evening with what-ever-his-name was.
"What are your plans?"
"Niles is bringing Gladys, and I'm bringing Marcus. We are all going out to dinner. Sort off a double date thing." Fran smiled.
Maxwells mood got darker at the mentioning of Marcus.
"Mr Sheffield?"
"You go out and have fun." He didn't really mean that, but what could he say?
"Thanks." Fran smiled, as she turned around and skipped out on her high heels.
Maxwell threw down the pen, as he got up and started to pace.
"Maxwell, I've looked over the contracts and ..."
"Good, that's good." Maxwell interrupted her, not even bothering to listen to her.
C.C. sighed, threw the papers on the desk and said loudly. "Ok, what's wrong now?"
"What?" Maxwell looked up to meet her staring eyes.
"You've got that annoying look, which means you are worried about something that probably has something to do with the kids or Nanny Fine. Since the kids aren't here, I assume it's Nanny Fine?"
"Really C.C. I have better things to do with my time then worry about Miss Fine going on a date tomorrow."
Maxwell had let it slip.
"Aha!" C.C. said triumphantly.
"Along with Niles and his date Gladys." He added as he studied C.C's face.
"Oh." C.C. said, this time with a voice that could barely be heard.
"I'm sorry C.C. I know you have feelings for Niles."
"I DO NOT." She spit back.
"Fine." Maxwell threw his hand up in the air as a sign of surrender, when a idea hit him. "Then forget about it." He said, as he seated himself behind the desk again.
"Forget about what?"
"Oh nothing. I just thought we could do something that ..."
"That what?" C.C's curiosity was awakened.
"That just may show how Niles really feels about you, but if your not interested .........."
"I'm not ... but why don't you tell me ... .so I can tell you what a lousy idea it is."
Maxwell smiled. She was hooked.
Later that evening Niles was cleaning up in the kitchen, when Fran came in. "Did you know Mr Sheffield is going out on a date?" She said, as she seated herself by the kitchen table.
"I just found out." Niles seated himself next to her.
"I wonder with who?"
"That I don't know. I wouldn't worry, if I were you."
Fran looked at him. "Who said, I was worried?"
Niles didn't get a chance to reply, as the back door opened to reveal C.C.
"Hello, hello."
Niles turned, and thought he'd entered a dream.Wearing a long tight white dress that clinged to every curve of her body, like it was afraid to fall, C.C. looked stunning.
"Hi, Miss Babcock. My, don't you look fabolous." Fran said, as she walked over to inspect the dress.
"Thank you, Nanny Fine."
"What are you doing here?" Niles restrained himself and showed no emotions.
"Where's Maxwell?" C.C. didn't pay any attention to the sarcasm in his voice.
Niles smiled. This was gonna be good. Knowing how Miss Babcock felt about Mr Sheffield, he knew that if she found out that he was going out on a date, it would really hurt her, and he was the right man to give her that news. He got up and walked over to her. Trying not to let the smell of her perfume get to him.
"Mr Sheffield dosen't have time for you. He's getting ready for a date."
"Well, tell him time is up..... " C.C. smiled. "..... because his date is here."
