| Sylvia brings a letter that arrived for Fran from Mai-Ling, a child Val and Fran "adopted" from Cambodia when they were in High School. Mai-Ling is coming to New York! | C.C.: I can't believe what they get away with on TV these days. I was watching this rerun of "Seinfeld" and Elaine musta been, I don't know, 12 months pregnant and they didn't even acknowledge it. They just kept hiding her behind these huuuggge props. | Fran gets Max to allow Mai-Ling to stay at the house. Fran: Does it give you any ideas? Now that I have a kid and you have kids.... "Till the one day when this lady met this fella....." Max: If I say she can stay here, will you stop singing? |
| Mai-Ling arrives and the two mothers start arguing over their 'baby'. | They go to couples therapy to try to work things out, but it doesn't go well. Fran: Ya know, after twenty years of a relationship you expect a little magic to go out of it, but this is beyond repair. |
| Maggie takes Mai-Ling to a party and Val thinks Fran is being way too lenient. Val: Do you even know where she's going? Fran: No, but I don't know where Maggie's going either. |
| Fran runs crying to her mother. Sylvia has a warning for Fran: Sylvia: That's the problem, that girl. First she busts up your friendship with Val, next she'll come between you and Mr. Sheffield. | By the time Fran gets home, she's half convinced something is already going on. Fran: If there's nothing going on between you two answer me this: Why do you look so unbelievably handsome? And explain that extra sparkle in your eyes. Max: Because I'm looking at you. |
| Suddenly it occurs to both of them that it might be Brighton that Mai-Ling is interested in and they race upstairs to find them in a major liplock. | Turns out she wanted to marry Brighton to get her green card. Val and Fran make up and vow that they have disowned Mai-Ling. | Mai-Ling apologizes and they forgive her after they finding out she made friends with Jason Gould, Barbra Streisand's son. |
I Am Your Child
(Words: Marty Panzer/Music: Barry Manilow)
|
I am your child. Wherever you go, you take me, too. Whatever I know, I learn from you. Whatever I do, you taught me to do. I am your child. And I am your chance. Whatever will come, will come from me. Tomorrow is won, by winning me. Whatever I am, you taught me to be. I am your hope, I am your chance, I am your child. |
