5.8 Fair Weather Fran

written by: Rick Shaw

Our Comments Fun Stuff

Fran and Sylvia are meeting Yetta's fiancé Sammy for the first time. They are a little surprised to find out that he is black. So is Yetta!
Yetta: You're black?? No wonder!

Fran discusses Yetta's upcoming marriage with Dr. Miller and he convinces her she needs to find her own dream and make it happen.

Fran announces that her new dream is to become a TV weather girl. Mr. Sheffield points out that Fran's voice may stand in her way and she stomps off mad.

Sammy and Yetta are over at the house and Fran mentions her dream of being a weather girl. Sammy offers to ask his nephew, Bryant Gumbel, to help her.

Maxwell decides to go 'visit' Fran's audition and make sure Gracie has her lines down pat.
Grace: Fran I really miss you and you have to come home because (sniff) I'm afraid to be alone.
Max: Excellent. Now remember, wait for my signal.
Grace: You know, I can't believe you're using me to manipulate someone like this. It's so..... Fran.
Max: Thank you sweetheart.

Fran practices her weather girl persona and then goes off to her audition with Bryant.

Fran arrives for her audition and discovers Bryant's show doesn't have weather. Bryant let's her audition as a commentator. But her topic was "gene therapy", not "jean therapy."

But Gracie's mouth is full and she can't get her line out. Fran thinks it's sweet anyway.
Fran: But the next time you use a child to manipulate an adult, you gotta give 'em a protein, not a carbohydrate or they lose their concentration. Oh, why couldn't this have been my category!?!
And they all go home.

By the time Max arrives Fran is crying and Max tries to cheer her up by telling her about his planned ruse with Grace.

Sing

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not
Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.
Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not
Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.
Just sing, sing a song.
