With C.C. away at the place again, Max has hired a replacement assistant. Her similarities to C.C. rub Niles the wrong way.

Max: There is just one little favor I'd like you to do for me.
Fran: What?
Max: It's just there's some silly little papers I'd like you to sign. Fran: Oh honey sure, whatever you need, you're the business head in this family. You need me to sign something, I'll sign it. Just as long as it's not a prenup! Ha-haha.

Maxwell confides to Niles that he is planning to ask Fran to sign a pre-nuptial agreement. He bought Fran her own cell phone and a pager for her own limo to cushion the blow.

Max: All right, it's a pre-nup.
Fran: Water, water! I swallowed my tongue. I swallowed my tongue!
Max: Sweetheart, sweetheart just stay calm. My lawyer thought it was important due to my family's estates.
Fran: Did you think that just because I sacrificed five years of my life to raise your children so you could go off and achieve financial success that I was gonna hire some barracuda lawyer to take everything you've got so I can retire in the Riviera and go blond? Who thinks of such things?

The argument continues with Fran explaining that she thinks it shows a lack of trust.

That afternoon Brighton goes off to roller blade in the park and Sylvia recommends to Fran that she should go ahead sign the pre-nup. Then they all go down to see Sammy's niece Edna about doing the wedding photographs. Fran and Max are still quarreling.

Edna tries to show off her top-of-the-line package, but isn't getting very far.
Max: I really don't see why you can see my side of this. It's just a piece of paper and if it will make me happy, why can't you just sign the bloody thing?
Fran: I'm sorry I did not realize this marriage was all about just making you happy.

Finally, Max gives Fran an ultimatum.
Maxwell: Look, you know where I stand on this matter. Now what happens now is entirely up to you.
Fran: What is that supposed mean exactly? If I don't sign the pre-nup, the wedding is off?
Maxwell: All right, all right, yes. That's exactly what this means.

Val encourages Fran to go ahead and sign the pre-nup.
Val: Ya know Fran, why don't you just sign the stupid thing? He loves you, he wants to marry you and if God forbid, you do split up, this provides for you as well, right? And not only is he protecting the same kids you want to protect, his family is probably pressuring him too. I mean, to them you're a nothing off the streets, as am I. So he's probably trying to get them off his back as well. So from where I'm sittin', it makes perfect sense that he would want a pre-nup.

Just then, Fran is called down to the hospital emergency room because Brighton has been in an accident.

But they won't let her in to see him since she isn't his guardian or immediate family.

But silly things like hospital rules can't stop Fran, and she dresses up as a nun to sneak into the room.

Max overhears Fran talking to the children.
Brighton: Fran I don't know why you are getting so upset. I'm fine.
Fran: What, are you kidding me? I was so worried, I love you guys so much, I don't want anything to ever happened to any of you. Don't you know that you mean the world to me?

Maxwell: You will just buy anything at a sale won't you?
Maggie explains why Fran is in the outfit. Max tries to apologize.
Maxwell: Look, I ... I'm sorry.
Fran: I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have let you leave angry.
Maxwell: Well I just never... I really... cannot talk to you dressed like that. It's a whole boarding school thing.

Meanwhile, at home:
C.C. Replacement: You know Niles, it's a shame we didn't get along. I find myself strangely attracted to you.
Niles: You said I was a big fat ugly Butler.
C.C. Replacement: You don't know my type.

She leaves, and Niles runs into the office.
Niles: Taking the night off. If I'm not back in the morning -- Yea!

That evening, Fran tells Max that she is willing to sign the pre-nup.

Maxwell: Those of the first stages of the adoption papers. I want you to be the children's mother.
And he rips up the pre-nup to prove that he trusts her and knows that they will be happy for the rest of their lives.

Fran: This doesn't look anything like the papers you gave me before.
Maxwell: That's because they're not.

A Matter Of Trust

Some love is just a lie of the heart,
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start.
And they may not want it to end,
But it will, it's just a question of when.
I've lived long enough to have learned,
The closer you get to the fire, the more you get burned
But that won't happen to us,
Because it's always been a matter of trust.

I know you're an emotional girl.
It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world.
I can't offer you proof,
But you're going to face a moment of truth.
It's hard when you're always afraid,
You just recover when another belief is betrayed.
So break my heart of you must......
It's a matter of trust.

You can't go the distance,
With too much resistance.
I know you have doubts,
But for God's sake don't shut me out.
This time you've got nothing to lose.
You can take it, you can leave it,
Whatever you choose....
I won't hold back anything,
And I'll walk a way a fool or a king.
Some love is just a lie of the mind.
It's make believe until its only a matter of time.
And some might have learned to adjust,
But then it never was a matter of trust.

I'm sure you're aware love,
We've both had our share of,
Believing too long,
When the whole situation was wrong.

Some love is just a lie of the soul.
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control.
After you've heard lie upon lie,
There can hardly be a question of why.
Some love is just a lie of the heart.
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start.
But that can't happen to us.....
Because it's always been a matter of trust.
It's a matter of trust ....
It's always been a matter of trust ....
It's a matter of trust ....
It's always been a matter of trust ....
It's a matter of trust .......................
