Mr. Sheffield and Fran (and Niles to serve, of course) go on a picnic in Central Park. Mr. Sheffield is having trouble hearing out of his left ear.

They see Maggie kissing a twenty five year old guy, and, once again, Dad has trouble handling it. He forbids her from seeing John again.

Fran convinces Max that they should at least meet John so that Maggie won't hate them.

So Maggie takes Fran to a book store to meet John and his friend Mike, also twenty five. Fran and Mike get along great.

Once they get home, Fran tells Maggie that she thinks John is too old for her.
Maggie: You are such a hypocrite. Why is it okay for Mike to date you, but it's not okay for me to date John?
Fran: Cause Mike is not my daughter!
Maggie: Well neither am I!
Fran: Well go ahead and cancel the date with Mike, cause now I'm dead!

Fran is upset because Maggie isn't speaking to her.

Now she has to convince Max that this is a good idea. She takes advantage of his bad ear.
Fran: About this Maggie/John situation, I think I've got the perfect solution.
Max: All I want to hear is that Margaret is never seeing that boy again.
Fran: Fine, that's exactly what you're going to hear. (she crosses to his bad ear) They call him Flipper, Flipper faster than lightning, no one you see is smarter than he......
Max:Well go on....
Fran: And you know Flipper lives in a world full of wonder, flying there under, under the sea....(she crosses back to his good ear) and then she'll dump him.

She decides the best way to handle the situation is to let Maggie go out with John (chaperoned, of course) so that she can see for herself that they have nothing in common.

When Maggie and Fran's dates arrive to pick them up, Mr. Sheffield wants an explanation.
Max: Miss Fine, you, me, alone. Right now!

Max: What is that man still doing with Margaret and what are you doing kissing his friend?
Fran: Well, look at him.

Fran points out that she already explained it yesterday (well, sorta).
Fran: Ya know, if you would only have gotten your hearing checked, none of this would have happened!
But she does convince him to let Maggie go so that she can find out for herself about dating an older guy.

So they go ahead and go out on their dates. And, just as Fran predicted, the differences in their ages begins to bore Maggie.

Later, at home, Fran is trimming the guys hair and Max is happy with the way things turned out with Maggie. He tells Fran that he did go to the doctor and the doctor thinks that his hearing loss is due to a virus
"or a prolonged exposure to an unusual frequency or pitch."
Fran: That's funny. I live here and I've never had that problem.
(Calling the next customer to get his hair cut, right in Max's ear) Brighton!
(Back to Max) Must be a virus.

Maggie decides to break up with John and apologizes to Fran.
Maggie: I'm sorry I said I wasn't your daughter. You are like a real mother to me.

Young Girl

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh,

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here
Before I have the time
To change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh,

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl
