4.8 An Affair To Dismember

Fran is depressed with the way her life has become so boring. Fran: Would you look at what my day consists of? Buy Brighton socks, take Grace to therapy, pick up Mr. Sheffield's prescription. Val: Please, my heart bleeds for you. There are two words on my list. "Don't jump."

Fran: Where's the excitement? Where's the passion? All I got is the drudgery. It's like me and Mr. Sheffield have been married for 20 years and all the thrill is gone. Only we skipped the thrill part altogether.

Fran: Oh I guess it's just not meant to be. I wasn't put here to have a handsome British millionaire sweep me off my feet. Nigel: Hello Luv!

Mr. Sheffield is too busy to spend time with Nigel, but Fran offers to be his "welcome to New York ambassador." Nigel spots her depression right away. Nigel: Get ready to feel much better luv. You're mine now.

Nigel and Fran hit it off immediately. Fran:I find it hard to believe that you two are brothers, you are nothing like Mr. Sheffield. Nigel: Darling, I am Mr. Sheffield.

The next day, Nigel arrives at the house with presents: flowers and a 1.76 carat pure white diamond necklace.	Watching the two of them, Niles can hardly believe his eyes. Fran: What? Are you caught in a butler trap? Gnaw your foot off and get moving!
	Nigel: Miss me? Fran: Yeah. Nigel: I missed you.

Max chooses that moment to walk in. Fran shoves Nigel away and Nigel questions her about it later. Nigel: You know Fran, I could have sworn when Max just walked in you acted as if you were cheating on him. Fran: What? Just cause I pushed you off of me and started to act defensive?

Nigel asks Fran to marry him and leave with him on the QE2 when he goes that night. Fran doesn't know what to answer him and he tells her to think about it and meet him on the pier if the answer is yes.

The rest of the day, Fran agonizes over what to do. Val: In my heart, I know that there is no one better for you than Maxwell Sheffield. Fran: Not him. The brother. Val: Better. Younger, no kids.

Sylvia isn't much help figuring things out either. Sylvia: Darling, I know you're fermisht, but don't rush into anything until you're sure. Fran: How did my life get so complicated? I always thought that I was gonna end up with Mr. Sheffield, but I'm wasting my youth here. I'm a vital, passionate woman and Nigel brings that out in me. Sylvia: Darling, hold that thought. I took a diuretic.

Mr. Sheffield sheds the most light on things. Max: Ah Miss Fine, were you planning on seeing Nigel tonight? Fran: Well, I was thinking about it, but if you don't want me to, if you think my place is to be here with you and the kids, just say the word. Max: Oh by all means go. You two will have a wonderful time together. Who knows when I'll finish up in the office. Please don't sit around waiting for me. Fran: All right. I know what I got to do now.

Lady, were you meant to be on that ship?
Oh, I guess not.

Mr. Sheffield comes in from the theater and Fran realizes he never even knew she had gone. Max: Well, I'm very glad you're still up. You know I've missed you. The show is coming along suberbly. Very soon it will be opening night and you'll be there wearing something smashing.

Fran: And I'll stick a couple of Tums in your cumberbund so when you get nervous.... Max: Miss Fine, are you all right? Have you been crying? Fran: I went clubbing with Val and I hurt my ankle. Max: Oh, let's have a look.

Max goes off to get some ice and Fran runs to the office to grab the note before he can see it.	Don't you worry Miss Fine, I've got you. Boy do you ever.
They put some ice on the ankle and Max carries her upstairs.
