C.C. and Max are producing a benefit for Broadway Cares and they have arranged for Roslyn Kind to sing, and her sister Barbra Streisand to host the event.

Maggie's seventeenth birthday is coming up and she figures that her dad is not going to spring for a car, so she wants to win one in a "Miss Trans Am" driving contest. She wants Fran to be the one to compete, but Fran can't drive a stick shift car.

She convinces Max to teach her how. The lessons are enjoyable for both of them.
Max: You've got to feel it when it's time to shift. Do I have to squeeze your leg every time?
Fran: I guess I'm a slow learner.

C.C. calls on the car phone with the news that Barbra wants to have the benefit at her home in the Hamptons. In the excitement at that news, Fran runs over a bunny. She feels just awful about it.

At the car show, Fran is doing well in the contest until she sees the good luck charm on the rear view mirror of the car. She just can't bring herself to drive again.

Fran is depressed that she couldn't win the car for Mags, and Mr. Sheffield wants to take her driving again to get over her fear~~but she refuses.

To cheer her up, he says he will take her to the Barbra benefit.

But on the way to the benefit, Mr. Sheffield starts complaining of stomach pains presumably from some pate that Niles made and he can't drive anymore. Fran is forced to take the wheel since she is the only other one that can drive a stick shift.

The next day Fran is telling Niles all about it and they figure out that Mr. Sheffield had faked the illness to force Fran into driving.

Fran goes in to get Mr. Sheffield to confess what he did for her.
Fran: I know that you pretended to be sick to get me to drive. I tell you it is just so adorable how you can't really express the way you feel. Like all the times that you yell and scream at me, when in reality, you wanna hug me.
Max: Well...
Fran: And all those times that you fired me, when in reality you wanna kiss me.

Max: All right...
Fran: When you told me you loved me and you took it back, when in reality...
Max: No, actually, that I meant.
Fran: I hate you.
Max: No you don't. You really want to hug me.
Fran: Okay I'm busted!

written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love

Well she got her daddy's car
And she cruised through the hamburger stand now
Seems she forgot all about the library
Like she told her old man now
And with the radio blasting
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now
And she'll have fun fun fun
'Til her daddy takes the T-Bird away
(Fun fun fun 'til her daddy takes the T-Bird away)

Well the girls can't stand her
'Cause she walks looks and drives like an ace now
(You walk like an ace now you walk like an ace)
She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race now
(You look like an ace now you look like an ace)
A lotta guys try to catch her
But she leads them on a wild goose chase now
(You drive like an ace now you drive like an ace)
And she'll have fun fun fun
'Til her daddy takes the T-Bird away
(Fun fun fun 'til her daddy takes the T-Bird away)

Well you knew all along
That your dad was gettin' wise to you now
(You shouldn't have lied now you shouldn't have lied)
And since he took your set of keys
You've been thinking that your fun is all through now
(You shouldn't have lied now you shouldn't have lied)
But you can come along with me
'Cause we gotta a lot of things to do now
(You shouldn't have lied now you shouldn't have lied)
And we'll have fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-Bird away
(Fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-Bird away)
