what can i say? the pilot is always the classic episode! its really funny to see the kids so young and meeting niles and CC for the first time its always classic...awesome episode! loved every minute!

Oh, well... memories... (as the corne- oh, well, let's not got here) That was such a good ep!!! The first time we saw them... hearts puonding... eyes wide open in front of the TV... a smile on our face and, oh!, there's that whining laughter we've all come to adore and hear ringing in our ears for the rest of six more years... that was great... Franny looking really funny specially when Mr. Shefield told her she could stay for the nanny position... Maggie a teen, B so small, and Grace that tiny toothless kid! Niles as witty as always and C.C. looking very classy!!! I just LOVE that ep soooo much, I can watch i over and over again!!! That was the beggining of something we'd fall in love and some people we'd fall in love for the rest of our lives! Thanks guys, we all LOVE you very very much!!!

Was it me or did it look like there was a "thing" going on between Maxwell and C.C. with the way they were acting towards each other? Oh, and you have to love the camera act, especially with part when Fran goes "And he kissed you...letme get the camera." I thought the episode made Maxwell look to stuffy. But it was a great way to introduce the concept of the show and now watch how Maxwell beings to loosen up and become closer to Miss Fine. Wasn't it weird looking at the set backwards too?

I loved it! A great way to kick off a show!!!

This episode is by far one of my favorites. I gave it tens in everything but romance and that was because even though it had a few jokes that bordered on romantic it was too early in the show to start with any romance.

What can one say? MA, pack my things, he wants me back!

I think this is indeed an excellent pilot. Maybe not as funny as others episodes have been, but it certainly for be the first one, it really captures and makes you get interested on the show. It is a great start!

Every part of this was wonderful. The first glimpse of sexual tension was INCREDIBLE. (jumps up and down just thinking about the look Max gave to fran and the red dress...WHO HA!) a wonderful way to start of the nanny empire.

I really think this is a great example of what a TV pilot should do. They Introduce us to the characters and their relationships nicely and smoothly, got love this Bunch, the dialogues were smart and hillarious...
"I Loved it, it was a Masterpiece, Two Thumbs UP!!!"

HI! I´m from Germany, and today the pilot episode has been send in our television(RTL)! I´ve seen it the first time cos I´ve been watching "The Nanny" only since 2nd season til yesterday: "The Wedding". I think the pilot episode is cute, Maxwell on her plastic sofa!!!

Okay...here goes:
Well, i think that everyone has a kind of special attachment to this episode, because it is the very first one, it shows the start of what we've all come to know as one great adventure. Both funny as romantic and heartfelt. But trying to lay all that aside..if that is even possible....I still see one of the most enjoyable eps of season 1. I LOL so much while seeing this again and again and again. And maybe , notig really romantic happens, but I rated it a 9 on that part anyway, because it already shows Max attraction for Fran. How he is swept of his feet when she comes down in that red dress. As you see I can just go on and one. But I'd rather do something usefull and watch all those wonderful eps again.

Definitely one of my all time faves! I assume they changed a few things between the filming of the pilot and the filming of the rest of the series because I could have sworn C.C. and Max were an item from this first episode. Doesn't she call him "darling" and massage his shoulders? And he's going to take her in the library???? The kids certainly seemed to think something was going on. Was it perhaps that C.C. was close to finally getting Max, but Fran changed everything? Anyway, "Handsome. You said handsome!" is one of my favorite C.C. lines of all time and the "lady in red" scene is awesome. Fran looked fabulous (I imagine that's what got the show picked up).

I loved this episode. All the character's personalities were quickly established and Fran was just darling. I loved the way Niles was flirting with the new nanny and the one who stole the show - Benjamin - was fantastic.

Okay, I'm a Gracie fanatic I admit it. I love her in the ep "oh you have no idea how complicated I am." And Brighton, he was such a cutie. Anyway this isn't really a favorite of my, but it was definately a great way to introduce the concept and cast. Fran saying "no ya fired me, that way I can collect unemployment" to both Max and Danny, only she was angry when she said it to Danny and just devastated when she said it to Max....a sure sign of wonderful things to come.

I thought that this episode was a great kick off for the season. Then again I always love the piolt episodes.

Five words-Daniel Davis in white tie. I had to wait til "The Wedding" episode to see that again. It will always be one of my all time favorites. I can remember seeing it what it first aired, and each time really is like the first.

Boy does Charlie have gorgeous chachkas!!!!!!! PS I love the Episode to Dismember title...my fav episode! :*o)

I have always loved this episode, very classic.

Totally Fabulous. The beginning of the best show ever on television. Has one of the best lines: When CC says "What's that?" and Maxwell says " The Nanny". When I saw The Nanny taped. I asked Peter which episode was his favorite, he said the pilot.

The Pilot is one of my personal all time favorites. It introduced us to Fran Fine and the Sheffield clan, and made us all fans. I love the Brighton suicide thing, and C.C.'s reaction to the lady in red dress. This episode is the best! Just look at everybody nobody looks the same especially the kids! God I miss The Nanny!

Who can ever forget this episode!?! I can still remember the night I first watched it. It's hard to believe that was six years ago. It's always nice to remember how we were smiling the whole way through...cracking up like never before... seeing the kids so small and yet so talented for the first time..... C.C. and Niles greeting us with their witty insults for the first time..... Fran Fine introducing us to her charm, flair, style, wit, humor, and motherly love...... and the whole time we're thinking "My God! Does she really talk like that?" This was the episode that made us all fans. This was the one that set the stake for the next six years. This was the one that will make us laugh forever. It's fun watching the kids so small and seeing how much they've grown physically and acting wise. It's fun to remember the night when we first heard the first of many insults from Niles and C.C. It's fun to see Fran loosen Max up. This episode was the beginning of the show and the people that we would fall in love with for the next six years, and the people that will always bring a smile to our face for the rest of our lives. CBS can kill the show, but it will always live in my heart, and there will always be a place for Fran, Charlie, Daniel, Lauren, Nicholle, Ben, Maddy,Renee, and Ann. Who can ever forget the memories in this episode? From the fake suicide by Brighton, to the lipstick resume, to "Are these dummies anatomically correct?", to the insults, to Maggie's first kiss, to "Ma, pack my things he wants me back!" This will always be one of my favorite episodes and a classic to everyone.

ten of course! how can you not love the begining of this whole beautiful ride?? there were some lines in there that became the standard for classic nanny, and i will never forget it. my favorite was gracie's "you have no idea how complicated i am!" that cracks me up every time. the song on this page says it all, this is the begining! thanks barb, for a continuing the memory of the nanny with this poll!

It definitely gave a hint of everything to come: Fran's antics and one-liners, Max's British self, CC's hopeless pinning for Max, Niles war of wills with CC and Fran's taking control of the children. A perfect pilot, it gave a glimpse of the greatness yet to come!

Great Pilot. When I first saw it, I thought:"God I can't wait to see the others". I like it!!!

All I can say is that I am glad that that one day many years ago I was flipping through the channels and saw a very good looking british man and decided to stop and see what it was all about. From then on I was hooked.

Oy! The memories! How young they all look! And Fran! That makeup! That hair!! Boy did she mature in 6 years. This is a great episode!! A terrific way to start it off!

A 10 overall (less for the comedy and romance - that developed later) but definitely one of the classics. It's one of the few I can watch over and over and over!!! They were 'all' so young... not just the kids! The start of all sorts of new ideas - the Yiddish, (chatchkas, light nosh), Fran's camera, plastic slipcovers (us oldiers would remember them - my neighbor had some!) Watching it with 'hindsight' one would wonder if Fran hadn't happened would Max have fallen into a marriage with CC just for convenience (a propect looked into with a fan fiction or 2 already). CC thought Max was hers until that 'lady in red' walked down those stairs for the first time! Great kids scenes - great lines - "Hey I'm from Flushing...." Great it started, sad it ended!

i think nanny fine look a little bit older then she do on the new episods but that is nothing enyone can undo!! she had the wrong hair!! I think it was really good!! but i think Maxwell shuld fallinlove with fran fore the first time he saw her!!

I liked the way how Niles was happy about the new nanny and that she is the person who the Sheffields need. The pilot shows the line which we all love and everyone knows how this line developed.

what can i say about the pilot? you really can't give it anything less than ten. although the romance hadn't really started between fran and max, you still know what they were really feeling when looking back at the beginning of the show. considering it was charlie's first attempt at comedy for television except for mad bout you and murphy brown, he along with the rest of the cast did a bloody brilliant job. excellent way to introduce the characters of the best show of all time. classic!

I really liked the Pilot. There were some really great scenes it it, esp. Fran and the kids at Danny's and Max takling to Grace about her therapy session. It was fun to see how the set has been changed after the show was picked up (p.s. I like the 'new' staircase *way* better!), the living room looked so incomplete! Someone said it looked like something was going on between Max and CC, and I agree. As a matter of fact, I know that the script for this ep described her as Maxwell's 'Lady friend' (to qoute Niles 'u-huh'...) Anyway, I think it was a wonderful piece of work, a great basis for 6 wonderful years of TN! (p.s.:Wasn't Fran's hair kinda *small*?)

What a way to start... no wonder they knew it would be a hit!

Where it all started . You could see that Niles didn't like CC that much and Fran was immediately the Fran we will always remember. And there was this "tension" straight away. Great epi.

It all seems like so long ago..if i can remember how much i loved that episode...when max turned to CC and said "thats the Nanny"..or when brighton said to fran "are these dummy's anatomically correct..." it set the plot for the show we love so much it set up the characters we love...and it had a great anecdote with comedy...

This episode was pretty good and I can't wait to see it again!

I thought this was an excellent pilot. And even though several of the show's parameters were different (the layout of the house, Niles' stoic-ness, CC being set up as Max's girlfriend), I LOLed and was touched throughout the entire episode. And I was hooked forever with this exchange: GRACE "I'm feeling empty and alone." FRAN "Want a Tic Tac?" For me, that summed up the essence of the show perfectly. 9/10

A Classic episode to a memorable show! I think in years to come people will still remember the episode where Fran Fine walked into the Sheffield's home with a resume of Lipstick! I mean it was a great episode! How can anyone not like this episode!

Tens across the board! I loved the lipstick resume. The "Queen Mother" and "Mother from Queens" was probably one of my all time favorite lines. I really thought Ben did a great job on that Brighton suicide thing. Very clever. Gracie and that "You have no idea how complicated I am!" I still crack up when I see that. I also liked "This one's got no personality and this ones got multiple personalities". That was cute. Brighton with that "Are these dummies anatomically correct?". To the "Lady in red" dress. Fantastic. To Maggie's first kiss. To the plastic furniture. To Niles and C.C. insults. To "Ma, pack my things he wants me back!" This episode is a classic and one of my all time favorites.

"Ms.Babcock for you sir." "Thanks, Niles, I'll take her in the library." "Ms. Babcock loves to be taken in the library." Need I say more.

This was a fine begining to an awesome show! My personal favorite scene is the first fight that Fran and Max have concerning Maggie. It was almost as if they wanted to start the show off in a more serious manner before they got to doing more funnier lighthearted episodes. Sought of building a foundation. I thought the acting in that particular scene by Fran and Charlie was an A+. Some most memorable lines were: Niles: "Only 29...." Fran: "Don't start with me Niles". Fran "So what you are really trying to say is that you're sorry about this whole damn thing and if you could you would get on your hands and knees and take me back.....Ma! Pack my things he wants me back!!" ;o)

This is such a great premiere episode. It sets up all the characters perfectly: the three problem kids, Max the stuffed shirt, Niles, Fran's soon to be best friend, C.C. the "lady friend" who comes to despise the Nanny and Fran herself who brethes new life into all their lives. Favorite parts are: Fran's reaction to Brighton's "suicide" and Maxwell: "That's the nanny."

A classic was born when The Nanny began. It was fun to re-watch it & see how much of each of the characters have changed since that first show & I'd forgotten how young the kids were when it all started ! Little did we know what was in store for us after Fran handed Maxwell her lipstick resume & became The Nanny!

It cut when Max went to Sylvia house and Max want Fran back.

I usually don't like pilot eps. I remebmer I saw one and thought "this show will never make it." Several years later they concelled Growing Pains and I was upset that I lost a fave show of mine. For a pilot this one wasn't bad. I like looking and the characters now and when they first began. There are some definite differences. As was already pointed out I think the intent was to have CC and Max as an item. Also from watching this ep I thought that the camera would be a Fran Fine trademark, but it wasn't. And boy was Niles different. Yeah, he sparred a little with CC, but he was so deadpan, I never would have expected the character we now have to come from the one in this ep. This ep also gets good points (as does most of season one and two) for being about the children. This is the one where the roots were laid and though things changed by mid season at the latest, this was a solid ep and pretty good.

Hi there, I'll always love the pilot, it is one of my all time favourites. It was a very funny and memorable ep. Who can forget, "that's not the Queen mother, that's my mother from Queens." Fran's clothing made a statement then, the lady in red. You could see how everyone worked so well together, even in the pilot and I just have to say that Daniel Davis looked so adorable in this ep, a true Niles fan here. But anyways I loved it, it was a wonderful beginning to the best sitcom on tv now and forever. Bravo to Fran Drescher, an actress who in my opinion will never be forgotten, thanks.

After seeing all the episodes, i'm hooked on the ones after their married. I just dont care for the old ones anymore.

WEll I saw this episode after watching most of the four first seasons, so I was really excited when I got to see it..it´s a little hard to rate it or talk about it, since it was the first one...But it was a good start...even though Fran looked hideous with that hair and that make-up... I also like watching it again and again, it´s the introduction to a show we would all come to love... My favourite scene is when Fran says to Maggie "Oh you´re first kiss, uh, let me get the camera..." Good indication of things to come... Thanx Barb, great idea to do that, I´ll be here every week to give my take on every ep...

Well, obviously this rating is made in hindsight, but really, what could you NOT love about the pilot? All the elements that made this show what it was were there - right from the very start. Niles & his sarcastic comments, the kids with all their problems (I still LOL over B! And Gracie, with her "multiple personalitiies! :-D), poor befuddled Max, C.C. trying to make a place for herself, Sylvia & her Mallomars & plastic-covered furniture & Fran - with all her wordly wisdom & her heart on her sleave! A great beginning for a great show!

I had already seen several episodes before the pilot rolled back around, and all I can say is I loved it - it really brought everything together so that I could get a true understanding of the characters. Aside from that, I just think it's a hilarious episode - from "You can't fire me, ... I quit" to "That's ... the Nanny" to "Ma, pack my things, he wants me back!" A great beginning to a fabulous and greatly missed group of performers and show!

I was already in Season 4 or something, and heavily into The Nanny, when I finally had the chance to see those first few episodes. So, to me, it wasn't an introduction to the characters at all. In fact, it was a bit of a surprise to see how so many things were different, then.
For instance, Fran's voice had a much higher pitch than in later seasons - finally, I understood what people were always so shocked about ;-) The episode lacked the fast pace, and at times (Niles and Maxwell in the office, f.i.) it was even somewhat slow. Niles keeping his straight face, avoiding all emotion. And C.C. being portrayed as Maxwell's ladyfriend (yes, she's indeed described like that in the first script, and it's even said there that she's a divorcee!). Val wasn't so dumb. The horrible living room. It wasn't an outrageously funny episode, but it did make you chuckle alright. It wasn't a very romantic episode, but the first spark was there. And it did what a pilot is supposed to do.
Because even when some things were quite different in the following episodes, it did show Gracie's depth, Brighton's bitterness and intelligence, Maggie trying to blossom. It set Sylvia and Morty, it showed how Niles almost immediately took Fran's side, and how C.C. feels threathened by the new arrival ("Couldn't you just drop dead?" - "I don't know. Could you?").
It showed how Fran always gets involved into Maxwell's business ("Of for God's sake, I'll get it.") and how she miraculously gets out of it ("I admit inviting the children wasn't such a bad idea after all.") For the first time, one could see the famous entry in a robe ("Good morning, everyone! You people sleep like that?"), and how she babbled away about her family. It shows the 'fish outta the water' aspect ("Don't assume anything with me, I'm from Flushing!" and "It's like living at Caesar's Palace."), Niles dry wit ("Like Reagan in Grenada.") and - oh joy! - it even has the very first... "Miss Fine!" :-D
All in all, a very enjoyable episode, and an almost perfect pilot.

I just love Fran's appearence in the red dress and Maxwell's and CC's reaction. The best episode of the first season!

Great ep! It's probably just me but I could swear that Niles looked a little jealous when C.C. said something about 'just doing it' to Max in the office. I loved the way Lauren looked in this ep. Thank god Niles loosened up more after this ep. It's always fun to see the oldie's but goldie's. Although ALL of them look so much better today. It's a fact, the older you get the better you look. Most people anyway, ;o)

I loved the way C.C. waits for a laugh the first time she says Nanny Fine. Then there's the obvious--the house in pilot is all wrong, we all know that. B had great lines in the first and second seasons. There is also that picture postcard ending that we never saw again. It is great to comment on classic Nanny epsiodes. Great idea.

This episodes is one of my favorites because it is The Nanny. But if you compare it to great episodes (to my opion) like An affair to dismember, The nose knows and the wedding, it just doesn't cut it. I mean loved it, but the style is so much different. It's hard to rate it. They characters, and their surroundings are so much different, and so are they way they act towards each other. Niles is way too stuffy, and CC too.... I guess too hard. I loved the way they turned out. I think they really changed for the better. I started watching the Nanny in the third season, and the Pilot was really something I looked forward too. It's still a must for every fan, just because it was the start of the best six years there were!

I love seeing how the characters changed. This is really vintage "Nanny." I thought I'd plotz when CC said, "The theater has always been a passion of mine," and Niles replied, "Yes, I can't wait to see what you'll mount next." That has to be one of my favotire parts of this ep, seeing "CC as nympho" (we all knew she had it in her, so to speak!) as opposed to the later portrayals of CC as reject. It also adds a much-needed poignancy to her pursuit of Max. My other favorite line was the "chatchkes" joke, and Max's reaction to the "Lady in Red."

For romance....SPARKS, SPARKS. You could see the sparks on what promises to be a very entertaing and eventfull situation

I agree this was one of the best Pilot episodes ever aired. I thought there was definitely something going on between Max and CC (more on CC's part- although Max did say she looked 'handsome'), but once he had a look at Fran, I think that was it! ("You look- nice, too, CC"). It was sweet when he said, "You're not like anyone I've ever met, which isn't a bad thing, necessarily." The puzzled look he had toward the end when he couldn't believe he was actually trying to talk her into coming BACK was priceless! It's like 'I can't believe I am actually doing this!'. Believe me, Max- It was a great idea!

I thought that it was a good way to start a series of shows.

This episode is one of my all time favorites! It was funny how Niles thought she was there for The Nanny position, Brighton's fake suicide, "I'm from Flushing", "That's my mother from Queens", Maggie's shyness, Gracie's therapy sessions, C.C.'s dryness with Nile's witty insults, "29" "Don't start with me Niles!", to "Who's that!" "That's The Nanny", "Handsome! You said Handsome!", BRAVO on all counts!

a totally classic episode! it set the tone for all the episodes to follow. The acting was a bit restrained but it was the first time they had acted together as an ensemble. Totally great, it got me hooked on the show!

1.2 Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Fran and Val are reminiscing about 'Bad Bad Lenny Brown', a smoker who was considered cool when they were kids. Brighton hears them and is then caught smoking at school. Rather that rat out Fran as his inspiration, much to her amazement, he covers for her. Could Brighton actually like his new nanny? Written by Michael Rowe. Additional cast: Carol Channing, Jonathan Baker, Esther Lapidus, Michael McCarthy, Blanche Rubin, Timothy Thompson.

Our responses (53) gave the episode a 8.0 overall, a 8.1 for the comedy, and a 5.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

This is a truly great Ep. Maxwell's stroke, sending Fran to her room, realizing that Brighton actually cared enough about Fran to cover for her. But the best part of this episode was the introduction of one of my all time favorite characters Yetta!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this episode really showed how brighton was beginning to get attached to his new nanny and how their friendship was growing...Its always nice to look back at past episodes and see how their friendship grew...it really started to turn into a mother son relationship right frm the beggining! loved this episode...the appearance by carol channing was very clever..enjoyed this episode alot!

Classic Nanny. I Loved it! But, I love them all.

This was a very funny episode. I thought it was sweet that now Brighton likes her and does not rat her out because he wants to keep her as his nanny and friend. I think this was a family bonding episode. I think Max and Fran bonded for the first time in this episode. NOTE: I love that Barbra decided to do this. It is a nice way to reminis about old episodes and not forget them. WAY TO GO!!!

"Trust me, when you induce a stroke on your opponent, it's a sure win." And so it began -- the first stroke.

This one was great.

The kids were so great in this episode! Maggie with her head under the towel, B being the obnoxious little brother & Gracie with that orange! LOL! She cracks me up every time. Max & Fran fighting is always good, but I really liked that they took us right into the theater in this one & that we got to see Max & C.C. at work, too. And then, there's Yetta's appearance. She was a riot. Truely one of the classic Nanny episodes.

This is a pretty slow episode from what I remember. Nothing particularly exciting about it. Although I love the Carol Channing scene. That's about as funny as this episode gets.

I loved this esisode, a real classic...I practically know every line. From Brighton's "I didn't inhale!" to Fran inducing an instant stroke on Maxwell, this purely defined the relationship between Fran and the kids and Fran and Max. I liked this one because it showed Max really working in the theatre, which was almost never shown again. CC really dispised Fran being around. I loved that everyone assumed Fran and Max were married, the start of the budding romance that was to come. Yetta "smoking feh!, me it doesn't affect,I'm like a horse" was introduced and history was made! "Girls you may be excused...not you Miss Fine! " was a classic moment, that will be repeated again and again. I loved the family moments as the kids really acted like siblings and Max was the domineering father. Fran really turned things upside down in this house, and this was the real episode that started it all. "Break open the Bobka.." and enjoy this one over and over!

A very good follow up for the pilot. I love the scene with Yetta, and also Carol Chaning's cameo. A very cute episode.

This was a great episode. The introduction of the famous Yetta. Boy has she changed over the years! Still the famous glasses, but that's about all that stayed the same. Also, now it was the good set, to which the episode was taped. I liked the fact that the characters began to get more of their personalities that we know so well.

This episode was truly terrific. It really showed a lot more of Brighton, and Ben did an incredible job. It was funny when he said "From you. Come to think of it." It was very well written, and really showed how Brighton was beginning to think of Fran as his mother/Friend rather than just a nanny. It showed that he cared a lot about Fran and he really could have saved himself, but he covered for her. It's nice to look back and just watch thekids because they seem to really like Fran. There were some classic lines and scenes in this one as wwell. From Gracie and the orange,to B's "We don't care if your on parole everybody deserves a second chance!", to "I didn't inhale!", to the theater scene it's nice to finally see them work in a theater, to the first appearance of Yetta! Boy she had some good lines as well like "Me it doesn't affect I'm as healthy as a horse uc uc!" To the very end with the Bobca. Excellent episode. Hey who can forget Max's first stroke and Carol Channing's appearance. And "Could it be?" "What?" "He likes you." One of my favorite episodes for sure. Excellent. A big classic because it began to open a lot of doors for the next six seasons.

The nanny was amready on a roll here. Brighton actaully liked his nanny and he always will, even though the show is over now. The way Fran resolved the prob like she always did. With Flair!!!! And Yetta got me rolling on the floor and screaming. Lucky for me no one heard me or saw me, or I would have landed in hospital or prison and be considered dangerous. LOL. I was ROTFL, but I luckily got up to see the rest of the great episodes.I am still plozing. Can we have more please??????

Just wanna say that I am like the biggest Fran Fan there is and I love anything she is in!

An excellent ep. We learn that Brighton actually has feelings towards someone, and will protect them. What a hoot. Max slaming his hat on and sending Nanny Fine to her room. Frannie by this second ep.is already taking over the family, as her scene with Val in the living room. Ah ! the first season.

It seemed odd to me that B would like Nanny Fine so fast after going through all those previous Nannies. Longer down the line sure but not so fast.

Well, average ep. But it's a classic, ya know. So, how can we not love that one? But there have been better ones, MUCH better ones. But it was just the beggining, they were still getting used to it. It's absolutely amazing how the chemistry between Fran and Charlie was incredible from the very beggining?! Oh, boy, do those two make some couple or what?!?!??!

A pretty good episode. I loved the part where max sent fran to her room.

Well this is not one of my favourite episodes of season 1, but helped settle the relationship between Fran and the children and Fran and Max.. There were funny scenes, though...and the introduction of the Yetta charatcer, quite different of what would then be....

THis was not one of my favorite eps. Yeah, it has some good lines (they all do), but, when I watch my tapes from season one, this one often gets ffed through because its slow and the just not as much fun to watch as others are.

How can you not like the first episode with Yetta - even with all the smoke! Maybe not quite as funny as the Pilot but more relaxed in other ways - they knew they had at least one season! Brighton certainly showed his innate intelligence - his 'liking' of Fran developed here. And, like others have said - Max' 'stroke' and sending Fran to her room - a sign of great things to come! (and gee, isn't it hard commenting when you have to pretend that you don't know what's coming next! )

Perhaps it's because ANY material is going to be fresh at this point, but I have to say this one rates pretty highly too. Gracie's line, "Maybe Daddy's seeing other children!" was hilarious and touching as well. I also thought it was touching when Brighton didn't rat on Fran, and Max eventually figured out it was because he (B) "actually liked her", (Fran's comeback: "Stranger things have happened!") and thinking back, he (M) realized only his mother had ever been able to handle him up until now. I think Max realized he really had something when he told Fran he wasn't going to fire her. The only thing holding this episode back was Maxwell's coat & hat. Gray with brown? What was that about? The Max we eventually came to know would never do something like that!

I think this episode has a shows to kids that smoking isn´t right. It is a great ep!

This is one of my favorite episodes. Is it just me or did Benjamin Salisbury totally steal the show these first couple of episodes? I loved his lines--The gravitational force is pulling me in! I didn't inhale!. And Max's advice to his kids "Gracie take smaller bites, Maggies try to get out more." Maxwell's first stroke and of course Yetta! How could you not love it!?

i think this was a very sweet, cute episode. gracie was a riot. her character really shone the most in the first and second season, when she was "troubled". also yetta was fabulous! her character changed a lot through the series, she was more rough and crazy in the begining, and later went to sweet and senile (sp?). last one, brighton, "i didnt inhale" cracks me up. i think the kids had more personality and flare in the begining, then the focus got off them and they got boring

It was sweet to see Brighton thinking of Fran as a Mother rather than a friend, and he proved that he cared a lot about her and wanted to keep her around when he didn't rat on her. Gracie's line "Maybe Daddy's seeing other children!" was funny. And Carol Channing was excellent. It showed how much of an impact Fran had on Brighton's life when Max said "His mother was the only one that could deal with him" and "Could it be?" "What?" "He likes you" "Well stranger things have happened!" Excellent episode and Yetta was the best.

I loved this episode! I loved the part when Maxwell was trying to teach Fran to pronunciate the letter "R", and he said "Mark went on a lark, after dark in Central Park", and Fran replys something like "Oh, I hope carrys a gun". Then during the party Fran tells one of the social women "How now brown cow", because Maxwell and Niles taught her that. I also loved it when fran was laughing (properly) and Niles comes up and says "and close". This was a great epiode!

Not one of my favorites, but I enjoyed the part when Maxwell & Niles try to teach Fran to speak "normal".

this episode was very funny! classic nanny! it was really interesting to see how niles and maxwell tried to turn Fran into a society snob! but we all knew that they could never change Fran because she is one of a kind! =)I definitley think this is one of the best episodes in the early seasons!

I loved the part where Fran disgises her real voice and says "Hello brown cow!". Also Max and Niles trying desperately to turn Fran in to one of those snobish women. Great ep!

I thought that some of the scenes in the show were halarious!!!!! That was a great show to remember if you remember any at all!

There is only one thing to say about this memorable episode. You talk about LOL funny. "How now brown cow". I played that scene over and over again. One of the funiest things I ever saw on TV.You talk about perfect timing. That one line with the fat woman in the brown dress walking by deserved Fran an emmy. It is really starting to sink in that come Sept. on cbs no more Nanny. Depressed in Atlantic City , Phil p.s. Like the My Fair Lady music. You did it you really did it.

I thought this ep was pretty cool. A good take off of "My Fair Lady"

I loved this episode like I loved every Nanny episode. I thought Fran Drescher looked beautiful as a high society lady. I know it just wasn't like Fran Fine, and she can't be like that all the time, but she was SO beautiful!!!!!!

One of my all all time fave eps. Love Max and Niles in this episode. Great send up of my fair lady.

Again, this was a pretty good episode! I thought Max & Niles helping Fran was really sweet, and it was funny to watch them try to train her in walking, talking, dressing, etc. Best lines: (Brighton): "If you put your head real close [to Maggie], you can hear the ocean!" (Niles): [to CC]: "Here's a broom. With the time difference you'll just make it!" (Niles): "We're British. We can say anything and they think it's Shakespeare!" and last but not least (Fran): "How now brown cow?" I never noticed until I watched it this time that the woman she said it to was wearing brown! (ROTFL)!

one of the classic episodes of the nanny. outstanding effort from the entire cast, especially daniel davis and charles shaughnessy.

I thought this episode was good!! It was one of our 1st experiences with Fran trying to be of Max's 'culture'. I Liked it!

Great Episode! Dorothy Lyman was excellent! C.C.'s cracks were incredible. And that fortune teller with "I''m telling you I don't see no tall dark nothing in your future!" When Maggie told Fran she wanted the old Fran back was very touching, and Fran did look a lot like Bobbie Fleckman in that outfit that she had.

I only saw it once but when I saw it I loved it! Very cute and original!

I just loved the interaction between Niles and CC. They hit if of from the start. Remembering all the episodes, I have to admit that Niles had me ROTFL more than once. This was a classical nanny and I had wished to see Fran speak normal more often. Fran trying to be normal is a lot of fun. Niles and his broom joke, were why a lot of people used to watch the nanny. ;-) And from early on the show, Max helped his favorite nanny out. Great ep!!

I loved it!! The whole "My Fair Lady" realation was cool!!

What can I say: Mark went on a lark after dark in central park! Some great Fran Fine humor. ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty normal episode. Not very good but not very bad either. The Fran-Maggie thing was really nice, but I would have liked it better if it was more romance in it :)

This isn't one of my favorites, but like all Nanny eps. it definatley had some great moments. Loved Niles & Max doing there Prof. Higgins routine. Fran's 3 universal topics was cute. Brighton trying to pick up the most popular girl, his reaction when she takes him up on it. And Gracie "I'm torn between Ted Koppel & Barney." The rest is so-so.

This episode was hilarious! When Niles and Max were trying to teach Fran to speak normal so they were trying to get her to say the "r". And Max with that "Mark went on a lark after dark in Central Park" and Fran shot back "Gee I hope he's got a gun!" Very funny."How now brown cow" hilarious when Niles said "and close" funny. Classic Nanny. God I miss them!

"How now brown cow...." still leaves me in tears! I loved the 'My Fair Lady' take off. And once again, Benjamin almost steals the show. It's a shame that they didn't feature him more in later episodes!

Oh, what a great ep! "Gee, I hope he has a gun!" LOL!!! Fran was really funny. All of the guys were great! That's what TN is all about! Fun, fun, fun!!!

Four words: How Now Brown Cow... LOL!!! A truly wonderful and natural episode for this show. Some of the lines I still remember and use almost daily :-)

i think this is pure classic nanny, i love the way this show played off of classic tv and movies. it is a wonderful tribute to the past. my fair lady was always one of my favorite movies, and i thought this episode was just adorable.

Charles and Daniel were superb! A great way to set up the rest of the episodes of the first season. "We can say anything and it sounds like Shakespeare!"LOL

I thought the show was really good. You had to love Maxwell and Niles trying to teach Fran how to speak properly. At the party the cast had me in tears, especially "How now brown cow". I think a great job by the entire cast.

A cute episode. The parody on 'My Fair Lady' was a classic. My favorite part was Maggie telling Fran that she didn't have to act like a dork for her - just be herself - which showed how much Maggie had learned from Fran already.

Great ep!!! Really loved it!! Extremely funny and really showed the fact that Fran should just stay Fran, and doesn't need to change!! NO, I DON'T SEE NO TALL DARK HANDSOME ANYTHING IN YOUR FUTURE!!! LOL! And Max looks kinda gooooooooood in this ep too! What else is there to say?

While I found this a good ep., more suspenseful. (even though you know what Max will do) It is fun to watch the beginning and gradual change of Max towards his "employees". Of course with the help and urging of his children. It is like watching a friend go through "growing pains". Do love the non nasel Fran.....

This is one of my fav's ! Loved it when Fran laughed and Niles goes "And close". I still giggle about that one. Also loved the scene where Fran says "How now brown cow" to one of the women at the party. It's really a classic !!!

It really is one of the classics and one of my all time fav's. Like when Niles and Max say :"We're British, we can say anything and people think it's Shakespeare". LOL. And when Max teaches Fran to talk proper and says :"Mark went on a lark, after dark in Cantral Park." And Frans response :" Gee, I hope he's got a gun ". LMAO !!! And of course the classic "How now Brown cow " also Fran's laugh and Niles' "And close" I still laugh about that today. Also Maggie asked the question I was wondering about :"Fran where did you get that Voice ?!? "

"How now brown cow?" That cracks me up each time I watch it! The timing was just perfect! I also like the line where Niles said, "We're British, we can say what ever we like and people think it's Shakespeare." Then he and Maxwell do that nasal, British chuckle. I love that! "And what about this beige frock?" "That's my dress bag!" An A+ for the writers for this ep. I Loved it!!!!

I loved this episode it was great.....soooo funny!! I loved frans "i already swallowed three marbles and passed two" !!! great ep, as always!!

A perfect example of blue collar meets blue blood, and I always loved the "My Fair Lady" bit. Also, some of my favorite lines are from this one: "Mark went on a lark after dark in Central Park" "Gee, I hope he's got a gun." / "What about this beige frock?" "That's my dress bag." "Two armholes and a string of pearls......" /"How now, brown cow?" /"My people came over on the Mayflower." "Oh, of course! The collar, the buckle! I didn't put it together without the hat!"

It only proves that a Nanny done well, can bring anyone...even society to their news. The timing in this show was excellent...from the gentle banter with Max and Niles, to Fran and her entrance and the "voice" that spoke in such affectation! I always remembered this one as an "oldie but goodie"

I liked this episode, it was funny and cute, Loved the scene where Max and Niles are going throug Fran's closet, also when Maggie is undoing Fran's Hair to get her old Nanny back, very cute.

A wonderfully funny take-off on My Fair Lady. I kept expecting Max & Niles to break into a rendition of "The Rain In Spain Falls Mainly On The Plain" while teaching Fran how to talk.

Okay, this one was classic! The first time I saw it was on syndication and for some reason I didn't have it recording. I kicked myself for that foolishness until it was on again. I think the best part of it was the lines that came almost exactly from the musical (Which Ihad seen just weeks before this ep). I loved this ep.

"I aplogize for being tardy. I was on the phone with my mother, and she can be such a yenter" "We're British, we can say anything and people think its Shakespeare" So many great lines.

just reading the comments below made me laugh again... classic Nanny.

Average ep, quite good, the first season is full of average episodes, not much brilliant eps, but this one helped show what Fran really was about, that she had a real personality but that that she would have gone beyond, just to do something good for the kids...Good message, and quite good episode as well...

I happen to be a great fan of "My fair lady", and I thought it was HILARIOUS to see Fran kinda impersonating Eliza... The two boys were also a riot. Maggie's reaction sets Fran's role, only shortly after her arrival in this family...
