4.19 Fran's Roots

A woman contacts Fran, claiming to be her mother. Was Fran switched at birth? Written by: Caryn Lucas. Lila Baker: Telma Hopkins, Young Fran: Jamie Renee Smith, Young Nadine: Sara Alexis Weiss, Cop: Jason Andrews, Benjamin Brown, Donald Willis, Will Potter

Our responses to the original airing (16) gave the episode a 5.0 overall, a 5.6 for the comedy, and a 2.3 for romance.

Our responses (22) gave the episode a 4.9 overall, a 5.2 for the comedy, and a 3.8 for romance.
Some comments received were:

Not the best Nanny I have seen; but it has some nice comedy aspects

I think the episode was quite good, although the romance was missing a bit. And I didn't believe a single second that Sylvia wasn't Fran's real mother. What I liked best was the whole subplot with Niles wanting C.C. to stay in L.A. One more thing: "Young Fran" Jamie Renee Smith is really cute, in all the episodes she appeared in.

Well, they can't all be winners, now can they?

This one is amazingly classless. The whole concept was just tacky -- no individual jokes could make it rise above the premise.

In a word: awful.

This episode was the worst but almost, Fran was very fine.(In all episodes!!!)

Pointless and totally unfunny. I can't think of one line, scene or joke in this ep that would make it worth watching.

This is a good one, but not my favorite! There are a few that are a little better, but this is quite funny!

I saw this episode when I was back home in Singapore. Not as good as the others, but entertaining enough...

A cringe-worth ploy to attract the minority demographic. Totally out of character for the series. Tasteless, tacky comedy. The only episode I haven't seen more than once.

I love The Nanny its great

The only thing that makes this episode worth watching, is Fran's outfits. I love that gray suit she wore to meet her 'brothas'. Oh, and definitely Niles': "Is there anything we can do to keep CC selling shawdy shows by the sea shore?" line. Those two are the only reasons I would EVER watch *ugh* that again. An old rerun of Cheers would be funnier :)

They could have used Thelma Hopkins way better then this. To little of LL. Wonder who did that flip volt while DD was standing shouting Yahoo next to the doors? The only reason this ep came to light I think was because again Fran wanted an ep focusing on her.

it`s a soooo good show.

Didn't like it much but I did like the scenes where Fran thinks Max is MORE interested in her because Sylvia 'might' not be her mother as well as the Niles/CC scenes.

..only The Chatterbox tops this one!

4.20 The Nanny and The Hunk Producer

Maxwell and Fran are the subject of a tabloid scandal after Maxwell wins an award for a play about a widower forever faithful to his late wife. Written by: Frank Lombardi. Dr. Miller: Spalding Grey, Stan Frey (tab reporter): Michael Brandon, Male Reporter: Sean Lesure, Female Reporter: Michele Roth, Liza: Marion Green, Andrew Lloyd Webber: Ken Danzigeras

Our responses to the original airing (19) gave the episode a 7 overall, a 7.2 for the comedy, and a 5.9 for romance.
A couple of comments:

Some good ideas for the plot arc but they weren't really executed all that well. I found myself thinking it was a lot better than some episodes this season, but that is really a left-handed compliment. Will someone please tell Fran to ditch the ridiculous attempt to look "chic?" She just looks stupid instead of kitschy. Interesting scene with Niles and Dr. Miller. Seems like he may be headed for a career change--hmmmmmm. A couple of funny moments but not the usual Frank script quality. Both kisses at the Tony's were cool (Fran planting one on CC was very funny - perhaps a stab at Ellen?) but the one in the tabloid office was just dumb, they could have come up with a much better, meaningful reason for them to embrace, especially considering the subject matter. Oh well, it was better than a rerun.

Bravo Frank Lombardi! I thouhgt the story idea with a tabloid exploring "celebrity" Maxwell Sheffield's relationship with his children's beautiful, nontraditional nanny was overdue, but now I'm glad they waited until it could take the form of Fran D taking some shots at the tabloids.

Our responses (29) gave the episode a 7.6 overall, a 7.6 for the comedy, and a 7.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

Nice episode!

Much better. This one had many well earned laughs, made good use of the entire cast and featured a higher caliber of writing than several of the fourth season episodes that preceeded it. I enjoyed The Nanny and The Hunk Producer alot.

I've seen better, I've seen worse.

I liked this episode, with the kisses and all, but why is Fran always wearing those wigs? They look just awful (in my opinion at least).

Not a great one, good though. What is up with the wig. Fran looks terrible in the blonde wig.

Another one that started off promiseing and then just got stupid. The subject matter could have been handled so much better. The scene in the reporter's office was totally out of sync and pointless. And what's up with that hideously ugly blonde wig?

Not one of this writer's better efforts. Lots of fake, forced 'romance' and the wigs were cringe-able. Maxwell a hunk? A handsome gentleman, yes. Hunk, no.

this ep is so cool specially when fran kisses c.c! i was like oh my god!what in the hell is she doing?! that was funny, but i guess it wasn't easy at all!!!!

A good one. I agree with the wig, I don't quite see the point behind it. What I found a bit overdone was Maggie's reaction to the tabloid article. She wouldn't actually be stupid enough to believe it, I think. But well, they had to fill the time, and the scene at Dr. Miller's was not too bad after all. The kiss at the Tony's was quite unexpected (well, BOTH kisses, actually), and thus more romantic than the one "on purpose" at the end.

The kiss in the reporter's office was good. The whole thing with the 'tabloid' press and people believing it was so true but the wigs were a real disaster!

I have to say that I agree with everyone about the blonde wig! UGH! But the rest was ok. This is definitely not my favorite episode.

I loved wish it! It was funny and entertaining. P.S. Love the hair at the Tony's

I agree with several comments made here- the blonde wig was AWFUL!! Also, this was much improved over the 2 previous episodes and several others of the 4th season and it did make good use of the entire cast. However, I disagree that Maggie's reaction was overblown- I think it was a distinct possibility. I also disagree that Max is NOT a hunk! Did you see him in the sixth season? (Hoo-Haa!) To each his own! Best line: Fran (to Sylvia): "That's perfect for you ma, you can use a bar of Dove to get rid of your Dove Bar." Good ep overall.

THE CASTS IN THE SHOW ARE ALL WONDERFUL.FRAN AND MAXWELL ARE THE BEST COUPLE.YOU'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCH THE SHOW EVERYDAY EVEN IT'S SHOWN IN SYNDICATED CHANNEL.WE WISH THERE IS A REUNION OF THE SHOW.NANNY IS ONE OF THE BEST FAMILY TV SHOW, SHOWN IN PRIMETIME.

the kiss between fran and max was nice, but after that he didnīt noticed her like he is kissed by a stranger not by the woman he is in love (which is mentioned by maggie later). The kiss for CC was a great idea. The wigg was terrible.

One of my favorite episodes, I love it.

4.21 The Passed-Over Story

As preparations are made for Passover, Fran is plagued by the fact that her high-school rival has been cast in the lead of Maxwell's new Broadway play. Written by: Rick Shaw. Morgan Faulkner/Marcie Feldman: Jane Sibbett

Our responses to the original airing (17) gave the episode a 7 overall, a 7.4 for the comedy, and a 4 for romance.
A couple of comments:

I really enjoyed the inclusion of Fran's Jewish heritage in this episode! Niles as a Jewish housewife was too funny! But where did Fran get that hideous purple coat? Little Richard? P.S. Did anybody else see C.C. blow Niles that kiss?!

I've been waiting years to see Gracie ask the Passover questions and it was very bit as charming as I expected!

Great episode! They are really a family. And like Fran said, they don't need a signed piece of paper, these two are married. Loved the scene in the kitchen with Niles squirting Max with water. And laughed at the final scene with Max, Niles and Brighton and their unbuckled belts on their pants.

To reiterate alot of what was already said - I thought it was a very good, well written episode. Some really funny moments ("eat ham and play sports") and a wonderful interaction betweeen the two families. Loved the subtle kiss CC blew to Niles after dissing him. I suspect the "four years at Oxford" line is setting Niles up for a new, lucrative career (?). Glad to see Fran back to the big hair and almost back to her sweet, naive self. ;-) Yayy!

Our responses (20) gave the episode a 7.6 overall, a 8.0 for the comedy, and a 6.3 for romance.
Some comments received were:

It wasnīt the best, but I like it, specialyy when Fran and Val went to Niles room. The black and white scene was fabulous!

The whole Fran-gets-jealous-of-successful-woman thing has been overdone on _The Nanny_, but it was pleasant to have an episode focusing on Fran's relationship with the kids (remember that, everyone?). Also, I think Sylvia's addition to the Four Questions at the Fine seder was pure genius. ;)

Definitely one of the best of the fourth season. The scenes at Sylvia's show how much they are a family even if they don't know it yet.

Nice episode..that al I can say.. espcially they end scenes.

I LOVE FRAN FINE

I liked this episode, although it wasn't one of the best. I get a bit tired of Fran's "problem talks" with her mother, and the scenes with Fran and Morgan were a bit boring in my opinion. Niles was great imitating a Jewish housewife. The scene in the kitchen with Morgan's poster and all was really funny. All in all, it's an episode I enjoy to watch from time to time, because there is still a lot of comedy in it.

this is a cool ep. i like the last part when she says like a prayer or something like that it's very human, the nanny is just the best.

I agree - this wasn't the best but wasn't the worst ep. Niles' immitation of a Jewish woman was hilarious as was his squirting Max from across the kitchen when he was going on about Morgan's pic on the poster. The best line was when Fran said to Max,: "The whole concept of firing is foreign to you! I mean look who ya' got on the payroll- Harpo, Groucho, and Draino!"

i love the line "when is daddy gonna marry fran"?

4.22 No Muse Is Good Muse

Composer Fran falls into the orbit of a rock star who craves contact with the downtrodden. Written by: Jayne Hamil. Herself: Jayne Meadows, Tasha: Ivana Milicevic, Elaine: Lois Chiles

Our responses to the original airing (17) gave the episode a 5.3 overall, a 5.3 for the comedy, and a 5.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

Thought the show was extremely weak. The first half went so slow, I kept checking my watch. The second half was a little better. Fran's song (or rap) was pathetic. She sounded like some mutated version of Steve Urkel. High point: "You can get women". That was too funny. I loved that C.C. found out and teased Niles about it. Niles and the headphones bit was cute too. Overall, the show could have been much better.

I thought this was a good example of how a great cast can save a weak script.. I liked this episode a lot for the comedy - a terrific Lucy/Ethel portrayal by Fran and Val as hotel maids and that rap song was so god-awful, it was hysterical! Liked the new, "more confident" Niles - hope this is leading to something (like losing his desire to serve others?). Coulda used more of him and CC, though. The rock star overacted to the point of annoyance, and is anyone else but me getting tired of seeing Fran's bare midriff? Sheesh! No real romance for either set, but I still enjoyed this show a lot for the LOL factor. 8/10

Another example of the "cartoon factor" taking over for real human emotions and characters. Can't help missing the old style Fran, and wondering why a Broadway Producer would be attracted to somebody who is acting as silly as Fran has been acting lately.

On the whole this episode wasn't all that bad. A weak story line, but had some good, funny scenes. Fran and Val as maids was a wonderful tribute to Lucy / Ethel. Loved the wig in the vacuum cleaner. But they saved the best for last. Max and Fran on the couch was romantic and added a check mark to the progress side of the relationship. And that little interruption by Brighton, could they be setting the tone for next season?

Our responses (32) gave the episode a 5.9 overall, a 6.0 for the comedy, and a 5.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

This episode has some really funny parts in it. Nice episode. Not the best but whe can't wish everything can't we?

Fran was great in this. It was creative and enjoyable.

No need for this episode. This is my least favorite next to The Gym Teacher. Even the maid part was not funny."No Muse at all would of been the Best Muse".

Best thing in the episode was Fran's song.

An enjoyable ep with lots of visual humor as well as some good lines. Loved Val and Fran as maids, Max and Niles wincing when Fran takes out the nose ring and Brighton telling Fran he needed to be punished. LOL. Max and CC making fun of Niles' tape and Tasha, the Alanis Morrisette clone, were good parts too.

VERY POOR EPISODE. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL, BAD WRITING.

Well, itīs a nice episode, but not one of my favorites! The conversation between Fran and Max at the end is kinda cute though!! :)

very cute ep- fran and max were very cute near the end, but it was kind of frustrating. you weren't just left wanting more-the episode felt kind of unfinished. i was also kind of annoyed by brighton's little remark about being punished- whenever he makes innoendo remarks it bugs me- probably because i know she's his future mom!!! anyways, pretty good ep overall- a 7.

This one was pretty good! I loved Fran's song! LOL! She sure comes up with original ideas!!

Oy, I had forgotten just how bad season 4 was. Ugh. Embarrassing. Probably my least favorite ep. of all time.

It appears I enjoyed this ep more than most people did. I think the Niles getting women story line was funnier than the main plot- maybe because I thought Tasha was miscast (too tall). I too found Max & Niles' scream when Fran took out her nose ring hilarious. (Sissies!). I loved the line when Niles asked Max, "Is nothing sacred in this house?" and Max replied, "That's good, coming from the captain of the Starship Yentaprise!". The look on Max's face when he said those 3 little words ("I miss you"- which was about all we could hope for at that point) was so-o-o adorable! How could she resist? One final comment- I agree with Brighton- Tony Bennett IS the man!!

Not one of the better episodes -- Fran is uncharacteristically whiny and dependent. There are funny moments -- and I, too, preferred Niles' subplot to the whole Tasha thing -- but the episode as a whole didn't engage me.

This episode is soooooo bad. Second worst one in my book, only Frqn's Roots was worse. The 'actress' portraying Tasha is doing an extremely poor job. I remember how disheartening it was to see the quality of the show sliding down througyhout the seconbd hald of Season Four. The only idea here resembling a funny one, is the Lucy/Ethel tribute in the hotelroom. That is, until Tasha comes in. Thank God that after such an all-time low, things became better again :-)

I liked this episode better than some others from the fourth season (e.g. Fran's Roots), but its not among my favourites. The whole plot line with Fran writing songs and acting as Tasha's muse was not to interesting. But I liked the interaction between Fran and Max, which makes the ep. watchable for me. Cute when they're sitting face to face in the living room - what a pity Niles didn't hear the doorbell. And Niles being teased by everyone was good as well.

I liked this episode, that Tasha was crazy.

the maid thing was veeery Lucy. Cute episode although not that significant.

The scene where Max sits Fran down on the couch and tells her his misses her is the highlight of this episode (even if Fran was dressed in that rediculous outfit)! Other than that, a few funny scenes (mostly mentioned by others) but generally another poor episode.

I Love The Nanny!!!!!!!!!! so much fran is such as great role model

Too cartoony by far. Way too over the top to find a shred of "everyman" in it. Outrageous hair, outrageous clothes, outrageous plotline. Yech.

Only redeeming part was at the end when Max told Fran he missed her.

4.23 You Bette Your Life

Fran's child-care services are on the block at a charity auction (hosted by Bette Midler) and the piano-prodigy son of a wealthy man tops the bidding. C.C. buys Niles' services as well, and makes him give Sylvia a massage. Written by: Frank Lombardi. Herself: Bette Midler, Tom Rosenstein: Ed Begley Jr, Old man: Danny Dayton, Keith: Don Siess, Morty Fine: Morty Drescher

Our responses to the original airing (14) gave the episode a 6.5 overall, a 7.7 for the comedy, and a 3.2 for romance.
Some comments were:

A solidily funny show! Bette was great! Loved the chase scene & Niles & C.C. "I've been working my butt off & I've got PMS. The ice is thin!" LOL! ( Missed the romance tho')

Thanks Frank for a good, funny script. Bette was her usual adorable self and CC buying Niles was cute, although I think they could've come up with more imaginitive things for him to do. The only thing I didn't like was Fran - it seems she's completely lost her warmth and heart and PRIDE - shaking her flesh around at the auction was cringe-worthy, as was Gracie "learning" it from her :::::::::shudder:::::::::. Sylvia is back to being a one-joke character, but still makes me LOL, as did most of the episode. 7/10

I think that this was one of the funniest episodes of the season! Bette Midler was wonderful and so were all the jokes. I was disappointed with one aspect, though, and that was the romantic section. Max is back to his "British (angry) cold fish" again. That made me a little on the frustrated side. Oh well, it should start coming in this next month (I hope). Overall score: 6/10

I loved the chase, and was Bette great or what? Maxwell was handsome and funny, and I loved how Fran got her invite to the auction. And it was classic Nanny. One day with her and the poor kid was traumatized! I'm still waiting for one of those kisses though!

Our responses (30) gave the episode a 7.2 overall, a 7.5 for the comedy, and a 5.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

Nice episode! Great beginning and great ending..Altough the part when the man died in the home... not that good.

Good show...any show with Charles in it has to be one of the best...!

the chase scene with fran and bette was great. It was a pretty good episode all around

This one is Great. Fran and Bette worked so well together. Loved the auction part "start with the cheap stuff first....Fran Fine. I also thought the running around the house part was fun, I love when Yetta ended up running with them, great physical comedy. I hope Bette's new show is compared to The Nanny.

I loved it Fran and Bette work great together. Two wonderful actress together is always a pleasure watching.

it is always a pleasure to watch fran running around the house, but this time with bette! oh god! it was so cool man! they look really cool together on tv! it was agreat one!

This one was so over the top, it was bad. It tried way too hard to be funny and wasted a fabulous guest star who did her best with what she was given--but sadly, it wasn't enough.

FaBuLoUs!! §šŋš§

It was fun seeing Fran and Bette Midler together and Niles decked out in the fluffy dress was a hoot.

Like many late-fourth-season plots, this one feels recycled -- in this case, equal parts "Curse of the Grandmas," "Sunday in the Park With Fran," and <fill in your favorite Fran-annoys-a-celebrity episode here>. It's still pretty darn funny, though, thanks to Gracie, Bette Midler, and good subplots all 'round.

Loved the "piano" dress Fran wore. Other than that I did not like much of the other clothes she wore, especially the 2 piece outfit at the auction. Enjoyed Gracie's line at the end explaining how she got the boy to play again. And thought the way they ran in high heels was pretty funny when Bette was chasing Fran through the house. Definitely not one of my favorite episodes, though.

Good episode!!! I loved the chase-scene and Niles in that super-outfit!! LOL!! :)

aww, classic combo in fran and bette midler. it was funny funny funny. the scene in the retirement home, niles in the dress: "I'm you're biggest fan!" "Figures!" gracie's line at tthe end, and especially sylvia and morty getting massages

not too bad

I really liked this episode. The best thing was the chase around the house, and I loved the song! But already the beginning was great, Fran's reaction to the fact that the "Divine Miss M" was in the house when she wasn't there. Well, the part with the kid and the dead man was not really outstanding, but overall this episode was among the better ones - on the comedy level.

I loved it! I love Bette Midler!!!!

I've never been a big fan of Bette Midler but she was OK in this episode... nice to see someone 'cruder/more suggestive' than Fran! The chase was cute as was the whole CC 'buying' Niles substory but I agree with another post -- the death of the guy in Yetta's home was needless. Another season 4 that could have been so much 'bette'r! (YUK! Sorry about that!)

I thought this one was great, too. I love it when guest stars playing themselves do more than just "play themselves" (e.g. Liz Taylor). Bette Midler was great, and Niles got some good lines too. ("Show us some skin!") I didn't like the plot with the kid, and Ed Begley Jr. was sadly a pointless guest star, but at least Frank Lombardi remembered that Fran is a nanny.

This one is in my top 10 list, because it is sooo funny and over the top!!! Itīs just "Absolutely Fabulous".

You just have to love Bette. The big chase with Fran and Bette was complete hysterical. Only Niles could wear a dress like that. Great show!!!

i thought it was great!!!!

4.24 The Heather Biblow Story

Heather Biblow Imperiali lands a role on a daytime drama (The Young and the Restless) and invites Fran and Val to visit her in LA. Written by: Ivan Menchell. Heather Biblow Imperiali: Pamela Anderson Lee, Himself : Peter Bergman, Guard: Richard Kline, Himself: Les Moonves, Mr. Moonves Asst: Roz Kern, Stage Manager: Steve Posner, Director: Dorothy Lyman, Young and Restless Cast: Jeanne Cooper, Shemar Moore, Joshua Morrow and Melody Thomas Scott, Bold and Beautiful Cast: Barbara Crampton and Hunter Tylo

Our responses to the original airing (15) gave the episode a 7.6 overall, a 7.8 for the comedy, and a 7.1 for romance.
Some comments were:

I enjoyed this episode, even if they had to try real hard not to give us a kiss or a hug. At least the feelings were there, and we had something to show they cared again! Poor Brighton!! And didn't CC look great?

I like how Maxwell is willing to admit that he missed Fran. A year ago he never would have! And I loved C.C.'s hair, she should wear it like that all the time. And wouldn't it have been a hoot if Charles Shaughnessy's brother David, who is a producer for "Y and R", had had a cameo spot?! I think that they are getting better and better every week! But I can't wait for the season finale!

All the elements were there to make this one great episode (comedy, timing, acting). Niles taking C.C.'s picture was a riot. Max missed Fran and she missed him, no kisses or hugs but lots of romance. And using Dorothy Lyman as the director of the soap was brilliant.

I thought that this episode was one of the best in the season! We have come so far..... slowly but surely. Charlie was adorable in this episode, as usual, and not to mention sweet!!! He was so romantic to Fran, and I loved the way Fran trapped him into saying that he was coming out to get her! This was a GREAT episode, and I think that we are now working up to the most talked about event of the year......The season finale!!!!! Overall score: 8

I almost didn't want to watch this...thought it would be similiar to recent shows.... but I was pleasantly surprised. This one was excellent. Had the same feel as the first few seasons. Now, if the remaining two are as good, we're set for next season.

Our responses (26) gave the episode a 7.6 overall, a 8.2 for the comedy, and a 6.7 for romance.
Some comments received were:

All I can say is: great episode

I really like her she is cool

This one was ok.....not one of my favorites~

Quite possibly Pamela Anderson Lee's most convincing TV role ever. (No, that wasn't really a compliment.) Also a generally funny episode, even for non-soap fans like me. We do have to swallow a few massive improbabilities for the sake of the plot, especially Maxwell's decision to hire Nanny Biblow, but it's liveable because it's funny -- and the denouement shows that Fran and Max care about each other without embarrassing either of them or their faithful viewers.

Pam was great!!! And Brighton was cute when he cried because Pam left:-)

I love every episode of The Nanny, and I also liked this one, although I didn't know any of the soap opera actors (I'm German and not watching these shows). Anyway, the story with Fran and Heather was good. The funniest part was Heather as "Nanny Biblow" and Max completely overlooking C.C.

Nice ep!

Since I don't watch the 'Young and the Restless', a lot of the 'soap' aspect of this went over my head. Some quite funny scenes --- Niles introducing CC to 'Nanny Bibelow' was LOL as was Brighton's reaction to her. Not a bad episode but still not near the best of them.

cute

A very funny epiosede

I LOVE THE NANNY EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK

This is one ep. I thought I was going to hate but was pleasantly surprised. There were many LOL moments and Pam Anderson did a good job playing herself ;-) The pace was terrific--never a dull moment. I'd rank it not near the top, but at the next level of eps., mostly for the comedy aspect.

I'm finding this ep, like a lot of season 4, are funnier than I remember at the time, although I could have done without a lot of the inuendos. This ep mainly seemed to be an excuse for a lot of cameos, but it was still pretty funny. Niles looking up and asking if there is a "bigger buffoon in this world..." and then C.C. walking in was CLASSIC! This ep seems to be a bit of a turning point because Max goes (in earlier episodes) from hiding that he misses Fran to snapping at Niles, "OF COURSE I miss her!" like Niles should have known. It's absolutely adorable when Max tries at first to hide the fact that he missed her from Fran. All in all, not too hateful of an episode. P.S. I didn't think there was anyone DUMBER than Val, but I was wrong!!

I like the Heather Biblow story. I was very hilarious. I thought they got the perfect bimbo to play Heather Bimbo, oops I mean Biblow. I thought The whole Brighton and Nanny Bimbo, Oops I did it again, Biblow. You can see the confusion. Brighton was hilarious in this ep. I thought it was sweet when Max missed her. And towel thing was just plum funny, funny, funny!

4.25 The Boca Story

Fran has mixed emotions when Sylvia declares that she's bought a condo and moving to Florida, at long last. Maxwell judges the Miss Universe Pageant. Written by: Caryn Lucas. Dr. Miller: Spalding Grey, Contest Official: Kristen Birch, Condo Salesman: Stanley Kamel, 1997 Miss USA: Brooke Lee, 1996 Miss Universe: Alicia Machado, Yetta's "Date": Bobby Ramsen

Our responses to the original airing (13) gave the episode a 8.8 overall, a 8.5 for the comedy, and a 8.9 for romance.
Some comments were:

This was easily one of the 5 best episodes of the season and a real "keeper". The one nit to pick is quite clear: the tag scene. "If I ran the world..." I would have checked back with Niles and C.C., but I guess they're saving that for next week! I know we were supposed to "ooooh" and "ahhhh" over the scene in Max's bedroom and Fran's fantasy scene, but the image that set me off thinking about the future of the series was the Dad, the "Mom", and the kids riding along in the rental car; that said "family" to me. I'm going to beat our Webmaster to the punch for trivia here: did everyone see what Miss Great Britain was wearing in the backstage pageant scene? Did it look familiar? [note from the webmaster: I didn't notice this at all!! I must be losing my touch. Think 'The lady in red', folks.]

Thought the show was fantastic! Loved the bit with Gracie and the tissues! The Sheffields and Fines look more and more like a family. And all those hugs and kisses! Whew! Can't wait for the finale!

Loved it! The balance of comedy and romance was perfect; Fran fantasizing about Max is SOOO much better than her hen-pecking him! Would have liked to have seen Niles and CC at the wedding. Sylvia and Yetta were in prime form. The show was LOL funny and more in the style of the older eps. - seems they are getting back on a good track : - ) 9/10

WOW!!!!! What an episode! I think that this is the winner of the season! Fran was back to her old self, especially when she asked Max, "Ooh, you think I am incredibly sexy?" Max was sweet, incredibly sexy himself, and funny! That dream sequence was wonderful!! (Is it me, or did Charlie sound VERY American in that part? Maybe it was because he was talking so low and sexy!) The finale is a comin', and now we are totally prepared!!! Overall score 9.9999

Finally, I feel we're being rewarded for staying with the show through this season. This one was one of the best...hope next week's and the next season's follow in the same fashion.

Our responses (29) gave the episode a 7.8 overall, a 7.8 for the comedy, and a 8.0 for romance.
Some comments received were:

It was great! Romantic and enjoyable!

A very nice and cute episode. Very funny parts with Yetta en Sylvia and with Fran and Mr. Sheffield on the bed.. TN is a great show!

I love the nanny and Fran Drescher. I think she is the best actress in the world. I never miss an episode. I am only 12, but I still love her. she is the best.

I've loved Dr. Miller in this ep.

An enjoyable episode. Most bits were funny and entertaining. Niles and his desperation about not being married yet was a good secondary plot line. The part I didn't particularly like was in the middle of the episode (Val & Fran talking in the living room and Sylvia and Yetta arguing). I wouldn't say it was boring, but it was not as interesting as the rest. Anyway, great show.

An entertaining, novel plot, making for a solid but not spectacular episode -- Fran's chat with Dr. Miller was probably the funniest part, IMO. (I'm trying not to blame this episode, where Sylvia butting is entertaining, for the next fifteen to twenty where Sylvia butting in just became annoying. I'm also trying not to resent the relative lack of C.C., who is far and away my favorite character. Just so y'all know.)

I remember thinking, between this ep. and the last (Biblow), season 4 was finally redeeming itself a bit. Not a great ep. but any stretch of the imagination, but there were some very funny moments in this one.

A better one. It seems the writers finally found a decent story as we draw closer to the end of Series 4. Loved the scene in bed, the call to Dr. Miller, the scene in the car where Fran imagined the kitchen scene and, of course, Sylvia showing up when it 'may' have happened!

It's an ok episode but not the best. There are some funny bits like Fran Crying and Miss Universe asking why, and Fran saying some Miss made her think of her mother, Miss Universe aks who and then Fran says, Miss Hungry LOL

Best ep ever!!!!!

One the many good episodes.. Yetta and Sylvia arguing; LOL!, and with Dr. Miller with his mother... A perfect nanny episode: good comedy and romance!

i loved it and hope to see more like it and want to see more of all the characters.

The Nanny really changed my life at all, I'm another person, I call my husband Mr. Shiefield, and I can't stand anymore the show's not on TV!!! Please, bring it back!!!!!!

I loved the scene where Fran was in Mr. Sheffields room talking about her frustrations, and that kithen scene! OH MY! (Where are the children? I should know that shouldn't I?......LOL)

outstanding fantasy scene. could of used a little more niles and cc

I agree this is a better-than-average episode for the fourth season (finally!). The whole thing was really funny, but the kitchen scene at the end was truly romantic, sharing a spoon, Fran dabbing at Max's mouth. Sylvia needs to leave them alone!! P.S. watch Fran's whipped cream in the first kitchen scene- it disappears and reappears a couple of times. Overall, good ep.

4.26 Fran's Gotta Have It

Hilarious! This was the culmination of four years of patience. Like most of us, I've been waiting for Fran and Max to get together....AND IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!!! This was overall just THE episode! I loved the beginning sequence, with Niles in rollarblades. That was just sooo funny. Who would have thought he could rollerblade? [Webmasters note: Apparently Frank did--remember 'Niles (The Butlers) Day Off'?] Anyways, Fran was hilarious and sexy, Max was hilarious and passionate, and Niles and CC... well, that's easy..... they were hilarious and romantic. The Niles dream sequence was great!!!! While the subtle hints about Niles and CC were good, I would've much rathered that they just admit their feelings. If that had happened, this would've been the ep to end all eps, and not just the Nanny but any show... ah well, we'll just haveta wait for next season. But am I the only one who worries that Max might take this back? You know, grieving for his best friend and employee, Fran being there.... I think you get the point. Overall: 10, 10 and 10!!

OH-MY-GOD. That's all I could say after the show ended: OH MY GOD. I just coudn't believe it . It was spectacular. I knew it was gonna be something big but I never imagined it would be this big: A TN fan dream come true. Well, enough with that already, now my objective comments on the ep: I loved it when Niles came into the kitchen all sweaty wearing those rollerskate, the knee pads and the shorts; I don't know about you, but I thought he looked kinda sexy ;-) . Now for the scenes in England, they were lovely <sigh>. You could see at the beginning they were just walking around, but as the scene moved forward, she grabbed him by the arm, then they were holding hands, and then, that final scene, that romantic little kiss: just beautiful. Now, back at the house: Niles: "Mr. Sheffield called, he has not met Celine Dion yet." CC: "Then what's he doing in London?" Niles: "Miss Fine, one would hope." The final scene was the best of all. I just hope that the writers know what to do from there, because things can never go back to the way they were. Too bad we have to wait 16 more weeks to find this out.

Well, I loved it! Call me a hopeless romantic but I loved the London music montage. And the fact that Maxwell told Fran that she was more than just a one night stand to him once again proved just how much he does love her. And the Niles and C.C. story was adorable. C.C. can be a real human being when she wants to. The role reversal was fun, with Niles as Maxwell and Maxwell as Niles. Let's hope that they keep up the great work for next season. And happy rerun season, fellow fans!

WOW!!! What an episode! This was the ultimate of all Nanny episodes!!! The mother load!!! Max was unbelievably gorgeous in this one (especially when he was rowing the boat with Fran on it!!!) This episode was beautiful, and what we have been waiting for. Please let this continue through next season!!! (Our little prayer for the summer) Overall score: a 10+!

All right, I waited all season for the "near death experience" and now that it has come and gone I have mixed feelings. I hate to admit this, but I really didn't understand a lot of this show. Was Niles trying to be more like Mr. Sheffield? If so, was he doing it because he knows CC has a crush on Mr. Sheffield? And that whole dream sequence really blew my mind! When Fran said "I thought you two hated each other" was she referring to Max/CC or Niles/CC? I know I'm overanalyzing this, but I can't resist. Overall, I thought the show was cool. By the way, kudos to Frank on imagining the "rollerblading" Niles - maybe the writers read his story. Loved CC too - they let her show her human side. Here's to big hopes for next season!

Loved It! How could you not? Niles with the dyed hair was LOL! and C.C.'s reaction to the heart attack was priceless. Also liked the interaction between Fran and C.C. And then, of course, there's Fran and Max! Was all that hand-holding and smooching romantic or what? My only fear is that he will take it back!

Well....finally they didn't toy with us and tease us. It will be interesting to see where next year leads. Maybe by getting this moved along the writers will concentrate a bit more on some good funny family comedy. There is no reason why Fran and Maxwell can't be together and there not be outrageous comedy moments. Needless to say, I loved this episode. It made the whole season worthwhile (and for a while, I was beginning to think that the show was starting to stale a bit. Let's hope Diane Wilk writes more next year.

Let me start by saying that I was as giddy and happy as any Nanny fan when the episode ended Wednesday night. BUT! Since I've had two days to reflect, my review isn't the exactly same rave as everyone else's. There is no doubt that this was above par for season 4: well written (Thanks Diane!), well-staged, and well-acted. I disagree with the majority saying we got what we wanted and expected in the final scene. Common sense (and way too much TV viewing) leads me to believe that nothing much happened behind that curtain that Max can't take back and the viewers have been set up for The Thing, Part Two. It will take more that one sweeps extravaganza episode to convince me that the Nanny team has broken out of this season's tiresome pattern. I'll spend my summer wearing out my first and second season tapes and hoping that I'm proven wrong in September.

Wow! A great end to the fourth season. The only thing that irks me is that we have to wait until September to find out what happened. I loved the Niles dream thing. M y theory on it is that Niles was Maxwell because he knows that C.C. is attracted to him. C.C. looked extrordinarily beautiful in that scene because that's how Niles really sees her! Have fun sorting through my logic.

Loved the ep.! So glad Max and Fran have progressed without actually fully consummating the relationship before marriage. I know it's old fashioned but that's how the whole series was set up from the beginning. Loved the way CC and Niles were set up for a future bizarre romance! They are turning out to be quite an interesting and unlikely "couple." The only thing I didn't like, that everyone seemed to, was the ending - I think it was rather classless for Max and Fran to attempt to "do it" the way they did (a la "Me and Mrs. Joan"). It should happen way more romantically for them. Maybe that's what will happen next season (one can hope). But all in all, a terrific #100 and a tribute to the essence of The Nanny as a series. PLEASE let it continue in this vein next season!!

Overall, I was more than pleased with the ep!!! From teaser to tag, it was a funny, funny ep. First up, the teaser had Max being sweet and gentle--and Niles in rollerblades!!! :):) Secondly, London! All the scenes here were awesome. If I had to pick one that wasn't so hot, it'd be all the banter with Celine, but still good nonetheless. Of course, my fave was the fight in the hotel room--a definite defining M/F moment!!! Thirdly, back in New York had it's moments. I think the stand out scene here was when Fran visited Niles. I just loved that so much. And the dream sequence was hysterical (PS. I interpret a met- aphor for N/CC's relationship.). Next up was the scene I didn't like. I am thrilled to no end that CC interrupted. Of course, that leaves room for back ups, but so be it! Finally, my prediction for next season is for Fran to do the backing up. I hope they don't play that card all season, but I feel she will. I mean, it would make sense. Fran has always seen herself with Max, but I don't think she's ever really sat down and thought about it. First up, I'd love to see Fran having a nightmare about think- ing Max wants to jump right in having a child. They have four long months to figure out how to back track without disappointing. HINT: Don't follow last year's idea and if Fran must back track (ooh, more of Miller), don't do it too many eps into the season.

Our responses (83) gave the episode a 9.1 overall, a 8.5 for the comedy, and a 9.3 for romance.
Some comments received were:

The ep is very nice, but I didn't like the way it finishes. You have the impression that Niles didn't care about CC worries around him, and I'd like this so interesting couple had began a "closer" relationship earlier.

what can i say? i give a truly fantastic eppy tens right across the board! every scene, and i do mean every, was very well done. the montage of the walk through london's picadilly circus was wonderful. the funniest scene though, was the jerry lewis spoof. the way that c.c. kept trying not to laugh was hysterical! not to mention the following lines: c.c.(to niles) smart! doing it gradually so no one would notice! (referring to the dye job). niles: (to c.c.) same way you became a woman! and the best one of all; (yetta to niles) i can't comment on the hair until you take off that beret!. that's when c.c. can't contain her laughter(or perhaps it's lauren that can't control her laughter). and what about that hysterical jerry lewis impression she does! now what would i choose for my favourite max/fran moment? i would have to say it was from the point where celine dion walked away, and until the scene shifted to the hotel. again it comes back to the chemistry between charlie and fran. there! i think i've said enough. but can enough be said about one of my absolute favourite eps???

Finally after so many false starts, Max and Fran took a big step in the right direction. Loved this episode and the romance of London, the drama & comedy of Niles and CC and everything else about the show too.

I love Fran Fine/Drescher

It was sooo romantic! Although Max still couldn't commit to Fran, the end made up for it a bit. The stroll in London was great as well. And as I'm a big fan of Céline Dion, I liked this episode even more. The story around Niles' heart attack didn't seem to sad or anything to me, probably because it was clear he would be alright. In contrast, there were really funny bits like C.C. throwing herself on the dead man thinking it's Niles or the scene with the food "Is he allowed to eat this?....No!" (or something like this).

I thought this episode had everything! romance and comedy all roled into one! I think this episode is my favorite out of all of the fourth season! it really began to show just how much fran and maxwell loved each other and it was only the beginning! A BIG FAT 10 to frans gotta have it episode!

THIS EPISODE IS THE BOMB!! Better than tart with a heart...my all time favorite. Especially with celine's singing...This episode rates a little higher than Not Without My nanny. My favorite part was when Maxwell (finally) gets mad and forces Fran to stay with him...beautiful episode!!!

One of my very favorite episodes. Sorry the dismember poll is going history. :( I'll miss it.

Definetly the best episode ever! I loved it:)

This was a great episode! So romantic!

Loved the stroll through London. They looked like such a natural couple! And the scene after leaving Celine Dion's rehearsal as they were kissing and entering the hotel room. Hot, hot, HOT! I had big hopes after this episode and things did start to turn around a bit with dates now and then. Laughed hysterically when C.C. climbed on the corpse in the hospital thinking it was Niles.

Whooo--Wheee!!! When they burst in that door kissing... I love this episode because Maxwell allows himself to let go there for a minute!

great episode. a fourth season redeemtion. great to cielion. have to love niles and cc. that romance heated up quicker that fran's and max's.

I would have wanted to see Niles having the heartbattack just to see how C.C. would react. The fantasy sequence was fab as Niles dreamt of being Max so he would have the admiration of C.C. Only wrong thing is Max and C.C. dosen't hate each other. It was cute with the sequences of Max and Fran doing the town so to speak. Celine Dion is a fab singer. It was a good ep most because of Daniel and Lauren. Fran and Max smooching while Niles was in a hospital bed next ot him was totally tasteless. I always wondered if Fran wrote in more kissing scenes just to kiss Charles but then who wouldn't wanna kiss him. Still this kiss I could have lived without and I really didn't beleive Niles timing of waking up either. I am not gonna go on forever so the ep was good, DD and LL fab as usual. Charles was terrific as he always is and Fran was, as she is mostly, best in sentimental and touching scenes. I so want that ying and Yang sweater Fran wore in the kitchen scene. :)

I love this episode!

aww, don't we love seeing them together? i love the montage scene, and other than that, i don't really remember specifics, what i remember is that the overall package was really well done and made an ep that was well written, romantic, funny, and well performed

This is definitely one of my all-time favorites! I miss this show....:(

Great episode.. The whole episode was terrific.. and knowing that in the 5th season they really come together.. it is an extra! Great show and pity that they stopped.... and I still don;t miss any reruns...

I canīt imagine that anyone doesnīt love this ep!? There is no better end for the 4th season. Although everything is open at the end, everybody knows that Maxwell loves Fran. One of my alltime favourites! Full of fun and romantic scenes...I love it!!!!!

Definitely one of the best episodes of TN, marred only by all-around breaks in character in that final scene. (Well, perhaps it wasn't out of character for Niles to play that joke on C.C., but it's still kind of a pity.) I don't even like Celine Dion, but this was funny, romantic, the whole shebang.

Fran and Maxwell were a pleasure to watch. They really lit up the screen with thir love for one another.

One of my favorite eps. of all time. This one had everything--comedy, plot, great pacing, and interaction between both couples that wasn't gaggy sweet. The dream sequence was a riot. Kudos to Diane!

THIS EPISODE WAS THE BEST!!!!!

GREAT EPISODE! I give it tens all across the board! I can't imagine how you can't love this one: It's got romance, hysterical Niles & C.C. lines, all those beautiful pictures of London,... I just love it! I especially enjoyed watching it before I went to London and then finding all those places or look alike places everywhere across that awesome city.

This is one of the best Eps of all time!!! The only one I like more is "The Two Mrs. Sheffields! This was a very romantic ep. And the whole Niles coloring his hair was plum hilarious...And C.C. got it in the end...AHHHHH!!!!!!! LOL FOREVER ON THIS EP! GOODBYE POLL!!!!!!!

Absolutely loved it!!

TENS ACROSS THE BOARD!!!! Ya gotta love this one! How can you not? I mean that lovey dovey dialogue in London, and that DREAM SEQUENCE?! What a shocker...the first time you saw it. As a Niles/CC fan, you could definitely see things going in a whole new direction for them...(tee hee hee) Sorry the board is going bye bye. I loved to read peoples opinions from all across the country AND the World!

Everytime I see the part where she uses the eyebrow pencil on Niles, I still laugh!!!

One of the best episodes of The Nanny Loved it

it's difficult to chose which eps. is the "BEST"..THIS was in my estimation one of the best!! Regarless of the eps. we will be forever touched by our favorite "FAMILY & FRIENDS" and we truly wish we could have them back!!!

This ep was excellent, it made me laugh and sigh too.

I just love it! One of the best!

I LOVED THIS EP!!! One of my top 5 faves of all time!!! Not only was the romance good, Celine sang my all time fave song that she sings, and CC was SOOOOOO funny! It didn't ruin it for me when CC found them, though, because that just left me excited to see what would happen in Season 5!

When Fran showed up in London, could Max BE any more dense??! Lucky for us, he came out of it later! I hadn't watched this one in quite some time and had forgotten a lot about it, like Yetta sitting on Gracie and the dream sequence with Niles being Max. LOL! I remember watching this the first time during the montage and hoping right when the music said, "..and when we kissed.." that they would, and they DID and I sighed because it was so-o-o perfect and VERY romantic. Even sick, Niles had to get in that little dig to C.C.- a good way to keep the end from being too sad. Definitely a GREAT episode!!

The best episode ever!! Plus I love London so It has a great effect on me. Romance is all over the air

Literaaly my favorite episode!

Just the BESTTT!!!!!!!

i love this episode!!!!!!

THe chemistry between Max and Fran was great! I hope Max commits soon! The end was very sweet!

Have to agree with most everyone so far. One of the best in the whole 6 years. (Although the kiss at the end of 'Tart With Heart' is still my favorite kiss!). ROTFL when CC climbed on the trolley! And starting with Niles on roller blades (thanks Frank!)!

One of the best episodes of the nanny!! Finally gave us what we wanted!!

I loved this episode!!Charlie Shaughnessy looks really cute,and I love Fran's outfit!!!

i loved this one !!!!! that part in the hospital it was fantastic !!! :)))

This one had its moments. Niles in rollerblades was a major one! I loved that whole exchange in the beginning. Maxwell sniffing Fran's snugglie, bringing photos of the family with him was very cute. That whole dye job scene with CC and Niles was also hilarious. The way they interact with one another, jibes and eye contact, really make the show for me. And of course on the other side of the spectrum you have Fran and Max and their whole romantic day in London. But I didn't care for the Celine Dion scene, that part fell flat. And after all the hard work Fran did to get that scene done, (flying to Vegas to tape the Celine part), the episode really didn't need her appearance to sell it to the audience, IMO.

This was a great episode, lots of romance, and very funny. I thought the montage with Fran and Max in London was far better than the one in Paris. Plus, there was even some Niles/CC interaction for the Niles/CC fans. Overall, one of my favorites.

The scenes between Niles and CC were great! I love their storyline. I was so sad when I heard Niles had a heartattack but it was worth it to see the way CC acted around him. It was also worth it because it brought Fran and Max closer!

Woh Baby! Very Romantic
