5.7 Mommy and Mai

November 12th, 1997
Fran and Van get a surprise visit from Mai-Ling, an orphaned Cambodian girl they have sponsored since birth, her presence wreaks havoc on the household. Bickering over who is the better "mother," Fran and Val eventually seek the help of a marriage counselor. But when Brighton agrees to marry her so she can obtain a green card, they realize the true nature of Mai's visit. Written by: Caryn Lucas. Mai-Ling: Jennie Kwan, Dr. Miller: Spalding Gray.

Our responses (37) gave the episode a 7.3 overall, a 7.4 for the comedy, and a 7.1 for romance. Some comments received were:

The episode, as a whole, was great! Very Refreshing... And the inside jokes on Lauren Lane's pregnancy were HILARIOUS!

I thought that the scene where Fran was saying how Maxwell's eye were sparking and everything and he came back and said, "Thats because I'm looking at you" was oh too cute! And the kisses after certainly made the episode worth while!

What the heck was that? And why would anyone read that script and decide it was worthy of production???? The ONLY redeeming moments were CC's - the pregnancy stuff was clever and LOL funny. That's it. I believe we have a new winner for worst ep. in Nanny history. Cherries one week, pits the next.

Had it's VERY good moments.. But didn't we miss out on some action? At first he pushed her away on a hug in The Ex-Niles and now he's kissing her and telling her that there's a sparkle in his eyes for her? Not that it's entirely unpleasant...

I thought it was funny. But I have to say that my favorite part was Maxwell and Fran. I melted, the way Maxwell looked at Fran and especially the way he kissed her! It was so sweet!

I liked this episode. It wasn't side splitting but it had its LOL moments. I liked the way they showed the audience that Lauren Lane is pregnant. Enjoyed the Niles and Maxwell bit on whose the most masculine. And, of course, the kiss. When he laid that liplock, my lips were puckered.

I loved this episode. I LOL when CC came and talked about Julia Louis Dreyfus on Seinfeld and then did the exact same thing she accused Seinfeld of doing and then when she came in for the poster of the musical BABY. What a scream! I'm so glad they're playing tongue and cheek with the knowledge that Lauren Lane is pregnant in real life. Finally some lip-locking between Maxwell and Fran. Not one but two passionate kisses. More! More! Loved the fight between Val and Fran and then going to visit Fran's psychiatrist. Spaulding Gray is so deadpan has the therapist. My favorite bit had to be Sylvia asking Fran for her medicine and it turns out to be Hershey's chocolate syrup! Ann Guilbert is amazing as Grandma Yetta. I would love to see her also acknowledged with an Emmy nomination.

I liked this show thought it was cute. Not one of the best episodes of the year but not the worst either. Enjoyed the lipstick scene at the end with Niles and Max and also CC'S baby segment.Only problem is inconsistency of scripts throughout the year and the way the characters blow hot and cold.

I like this episode very much , I think it is the funiest this season, I like everything, specially the part where Max kissed Fran , when Fran asked him , why wasn't he all over her. Aren't they make for each oter or what?? This episode is like a step forward for the relationship, don't you think?

What????!!!! Ok, loved parts of this ep, but didn't think they belonged together. LOL when C.C. did her baby jokes. Niles and Max's fight was superb and just plain fun. Then the kisses. OK, I'm confused. What is he doing all of a sudden with these cute comments, already? Wasn't Max mad at Fran last I checked? Not that I'm complaining, but huh?

Is there an ep I missed? When did Max and Fran make up? Confusion!!! Not that I minded some romance between these two; enough with the fighting already, I say. Glad to see somebody saying something about Fran's wardrobe of late, too, although there were vast improvements in this ep. The private jokes about Lauren's pregnancy were a great addition, and the running gag about Niles or Max being more masculine was too precious!!! But back to the point, it's nice to see the relationship between Fran and Max getting back on track. These two act like they've been married for 20 years. Prime example: the way they both realized Brighton probably REALLY liked Mei-Ling and bolted for his bedroom at the exact same time! LOL! Hope to see more like it; the best fights these two have had are when they sound like a married couple.

This was definitely one of my favorite episodes yet! The comedy was there and that kiss...."Because I'm looking at you." To die for! If only we could get constant plot and character profiles. I know that I'm not the only one who wants to know what's going on!!

I thought the scene between Maxwell and Fran was absolutely fabulous! It was so cute and heartwarming. I almost melted myself! Let's keep it this way!

I thought that this episode was great! It's wonderful to see Fran and Max back on track! :-) Those kisses were the best they have shared! Also, Max was the one to make the move. This is first!! Keep moving this way, please!!

Oh, this was a great episode. I LOLed all the way through it.

From the TV guide description, I was not that interested in this ep., but hey! I kept getting surprised at how funny this show was, the pregnancy jokes, Niles and the lipstick, even Sylvia and her "So does an artichoke" line was funny. I gave this one a 9 for romance because that scene with Max and Fran had real feelings behind it, and not just lust. Both of them bolting upstairs had me LOL.

The kiss and glances exchanged between Fran and Maxwell were wonderful. And CC's coment about filming pregnant women behind large objects was hysterically funny. Great show.

Well, it seems that the real Niles and CC are lost again. I'm not sure what's in their place but I wish that the real articles would come back and stay back for more than one episode. I was extremely disappointed. It's no wonder that ratings are so low with material like this.

This episode was one of the funniest I have ever seen. There were some classic Sylvia and Yetta moments. CC's jokes about celebrities hiding their pregnancies was also very funny.

There were a few nits to be picked in this one - like the kiss could have been more believable, and they could have worked the situation with "B" & Mai more, but on the whole it was a funny episode. Still lots of LOL moments & I loved how they played Lauren's pregnancy.

May I just say that this was an episode that I thoroughly enjoyed, When I read the TV guide desrpition I wasn't sure that I would partly due to the fact that I am not a huge Dr. Miller fan and wasn't really looking forward to seeing him again......ps did you notice that Dr. Miller mentioned his wife and yet if you remember from the first ep he appeared in I believe it was "The Nose Knows" he said that he was divorced...oops...........Anyway I thought that the ep was great, I can't wait to see Ray Charles as Sammy!!!!

This show had some priceless bits, especially Fran and Val talking to the psychologist and the stuff with CC and the plant!

I loved the CC/ baby schtick...a hilarious way to acknowledge it without writing it into the script (which, by the way, I don't think would have been so terrible). The Fran/Max scene was ill conceived (who would believe Max would emulate Woody Allen and have an affair with a teenager???) but hot none the less.

Not very funny, but certainly romantic. Best line: Are you having an affair with Mai?" She tells him he looks extremely handsome with an extra sparkle in his eye and he says: "Because I'm look at you." Adorable. At least it was better than the one where Niles quits.

Our responses (8) gave the episode a 6.7 overall, a 6.9 for the comedy, and a 6.9 for romance. Some comments received were:

I thought this episode would be a dud, but it turned out to be really great. I loved how they made fun of CC's pregnancy and jokes about Niles being less masculine than Max were great. There should have been some more scenes with Charles though, because he was looking really cute this episode.

There were a lot of great little scenes: Niles with lippy at the end was ROTFL, and Fran and Max in the middle was really sweet... but really the story was pathetic. Or should I say, "what story?" And where were the kids? Gracie wasn't even in this one at all. Although I suppose if this is as bad as it gets, the season will be pretty good.

This episode was great! :) I loved the play on Lauren's pregnancy, I LOL'd at the "get me my medicine!" from Sylvia, and Max was being really open about his feelings for Fran! It was excellent! I loved the "Because I'm looking at you" line and liked how Max actually was the one that instigated the kiss...it's normally Fran that has to...Loved Niles, as usual, with the lipstick and Sylvia's handbag, I was ROFLOL at Max's reaction to the lipstick! FABULOUS! Keep it up!

Alrighty! Max and Fran are getting there... still have quite a way to go, but we know that there isn't long to wait now!!! Yeah!! The highlights of the show for me were (get ready for the list!!) the "Because I'm looking at you" line, Niles/Max masculine thing, CC's pregnancy gags and when Fran and Max realise what could be happening with Brighton and Mai! Enjoyable episode.

Loved this episode!! The bit when Max said "Because I'm looking at you"...Oy! That's what I've been waiting for !! Now if they would just call each other by their first names... I loved the bit when Val and Fran found out that Mai's friens mum was Streisand... "So formal to your mothers!" I must admit, I was a bit worried at the start of the season, but now the Nanny is as hot as ever!

I enjoyed this episode. Some of it was a bit overdone (ie the crying stuff) but Fran and Val's fight was funny. And for ONCE there was a funny scene with Dr. Miller!!!!! I really enjoyed that scene where Fran and Val were fighting... the way they acted was hysterical. CC's "hiding" the baby was REALLY funny.

5.8 Fair Weather Fran

November 19th, 1997
Ray Charles appears in a reoccurring role as 86-year-old grandmother Yetta's fiancé, Sammy Portnoy, who recommends that Fran network with his nephew---Bryant Gumbel---for an audition when Fran pursues her dream to be a TV weathercaster. A hopeful Fran visits Gumbel on the set of Public Eye, only to discover that there is no weather report on the show. Refusing to give up on her dream, Fran tries to give an editorial commentary but ends up sounding more like Roseanne Roseannadanna than Barbara Walters. Written by: Rick Shaw. Sammy: Ray Charles, Himself: Bryant Gumbel, Stage Manager: Roz Kern, Stage Hand: Lance Reddick, Dr. Miller: Spalding Gray

Our responses (39) gave the episode a 6.1 overall, a 6.0 for the comedy, and a 4.7 for romance. Some comments received were:

Sorry, guys, but I'm gonna have to be the Big Bad Bummer again. Lauren Lane, once again, stole the show and with only about three lines. The rest was a disjointed mish-mash of bad plots, toilet humor, and fat jokes. If it weren't for Ray's singing and Daniel looking gorgeous (!) in that gray suit near the end, it would have been another total wash for me. Even Fran was off tonight, and that never happens. It's simply a case of poor writing, and not even this incredible cast could save it this time. NEW WRITERS, PLEASE!! A 3, and I'm being generous because of the tag scene. How sad.

At least Max was consistent with his feelings in this one, but the whole weather girl idea is just so contrived, it was like they had to come up with some idea to get Bryant Gumbel in there, and this was the most outlandish thing they could come up with. Personally, I'd have rather seen the engagement party at Yetta's home, with some blue blood--blue collar interactions. But it had some good moments--like Niles on the intercom, and C.C. feeling left out of the loop by not being invited to the party. The stuff with Sylvia not accepting Sammy as her dad I just didn't get--or I did get, but it just wasn't funny.

I thought the ep. was.. dull. Really, really dull. Maxwell was cute but a kiss was MISSING. The comedy was funny, not too funny. And, I think I slept throught the tag scene.

Well, I had to rewatch it this morning in order to be a little more objective. Have to admit that I had higher hopes. It was funny, but not ROTFLOL. Max was cute, esp. with Niles in the office, "What just happened here?" And I loved the Star Trek reference, & CC's "B..B..Boy!" But it just felt light & fluffy. I like a little more meat - maybe elephant meat? If not for Thanksgiving, for Christmas dinner? Hint, hint.

Well, I reran this ep again too. It didn't help! What do you suppose the writers are thinking? There seemed to be so many great avenues to take this season. So far it's been mostly dead ends.Maybe we should rewrite the first 8 eps and send them in. Most could have been saved with some consistency. For example, next week Fran starts dating someone else. How many of us are there anyway? Do you think they'd listen to a group? Fran once said in an interview that they didn't want to frustrate the audience. Well, I believe we're tired of wondering what strange direction we might travel next week.

Even though it wasn't one of my favorite episodes, it was still funny. Grandma Yetta was the funniest, especially when she walked. Maxwell was sweet because he was afraid he might lose Fran, even though he wouldn't really admit it!

I thought this was a very funny episode. Particularly loved the bits with Sylvia calling Ray Charles her "Daddy" Also loved the fact that Ray Charles' character's name was Sammy Portnoy (Philip Roth). My only problem was where is the romance. Last week we had two really hot kisses. This week back to nothing.

Are we back to last the season schtick "Fran needs a career to fulfill her life because Max won't marry her??" Let's not rehash too much of last year...(at least we know Max really cares this time, although, what are we gonna do with him? too clueless for words!)
Bryant Gumbel was actually very funny with Fran. (I loved the rosane rosanadana) Niles with the tape recorder on the intercom was the best yet! Niles and CC Love/Hate needs more Love/Heat!! (where's that hand puppet already)
Ray Charles will make a great Grandpa Yetta! LOL at Yetta and Sylvia antics thru the whole show. Good use of the kids, especially Gracie. Bravo! Overall solid story, but nothing to plotz about!!

Help! Our show is sinking faster than any ship, and I don't mean just the ratings. Where is the plot?! As all of the shows this season, the show was cute, but their was no hard substance, just superficial comedy. I know that we can do better than what we have seen. I wish there was something we could do to convey to the writers that they have to come through for the fans(perhaps a group effort, as mentioned above?). I have to admit that the scene with Niles on the intercom was cute and so was Grace and Maxwell's ruse to get Fran back, but so much more can happen. Well, we've already been pre-empted for the next two weeks, I hope this doesn't foreshadow cancellation of our favorite sit-com- I don't even want to think about it....Here's hopes for a revitalizing, romantic and consistant Christmas special.

I didn't even take the time to rerun this episode. I started watching The Nanny only a year ago and this is definitely the WORST episode I have seen. I was "taken in" by most of last years episodes, and this year has been quite disappointing. What is it with Fran dating someone else next week? Get on with it....already. I am getting bored.

Hot Cold Hot Cold..... Is there a storm front coming in every week or do they just move the set all over the country? What is it with these two? Are they light switches? Can't the writters give us some direction? Ohhhhhh...., that's right..., I guess when you are pulling people off the street at random, it isn't really convenient to ask if they have ever seen the show or not. Now I will admit the ep (if that can be called an ep) had its good moments :-): Gracie: I can't believe you're using me to manipulate an adult. Its so....Fran. Max: Thank you, Sweetheart. Very cute.....very original.....kinda like when they had Ray Charles singing at the end. Relax, I'm fine now. I must go do yoga with my second season tapes and John Secada tracks.

Well , I really don't know. This episode was funny but I expect more.....
The part I really enjoy happens when Max told Gracie what she must say and when it finally was her turn she said it eating....

When will Fran and Maxwell get together???

While the episode was cute, it didn't really advance the relationships of the main characters and gave the rest of the cast lame lines that seemed to embarrass the cast and audience alike. Worst show this season. I hope the writers start taking some risks and start creating tensions with the characters. Specifically a Niles/CC affair or having Fran and Maxwell finally fall, trip or stumble into bed.

This show really disappointed me. I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the last few Eps. That thing with Gracie trying to talk with her mouth was just so stupid. Puh-leeze make the next episode better.

The only chuckle I got out of this one was Max's "what just hapened here" bit. I am growing quite tired of the hot/cold hot/cold in both Max and Fran's and Niles and CC's relationships ...and now Fran is going to start dating Harry Hamlin? Give me a break!! I too hope they cure the bad writing before we go from "Nanny double whammy" to cancellation in one season!

Hurry up and get Maxwell and Ms. Fine together!

I love Niles, his sarcasm is great and The scenes between Daniel Davis and Lauren Lane are very funny. Fran Drescher discovered a new style of comedy which is very soft and intelligent. I love everything about this show the only thing I think could have more is romance between the nanny and Mr. Sheffield they now discovered that they feel something about each other why not more romance! The rest is just Great!!!!!

It seems like all of the recent episodes have had famous guest-stars. While they always add a extra dash of pizzaz to the show, I think they are being used to spice-up the lame plots. It's sad when celebrities are used as filler-in! Let's get some good writting, with more comedy (Lauren Lane's the only one) and a little more romance (hint, hint: "The Morning After") No wonder it's ratings have been sagging! It's still a good show!

This episode was really terrible, the only thing that I liked was Grandma Yetta going to answer the door and Niles at the intercom. Not even the great appearances made the show better... what else can I say...It sucked!

My favorite quote was.- Gracie: "I can't believe you're using me to manipulate an adult, it's so... FRAN!".

The only thing I have against this show is that the weather goal dream thing didn't really work. I would have enjoyed it if Yetta had a big party to introduce her fiance. The only good thing was how Mr Sheffield confessed about losing her. I think that this show is getting a little out of hand and looks like they are using cheap stories that really don't have any meaning to it and need to get a some new writers.

Our responses (11) gave the episode a 5.5 overall, a 5.6 for the comedy, and a 4.2 for romance. Some comments received were:

This episode wasn't too bad, but there could have been more said about Max and Fran's relationship.

Well it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, given all the comments when it aired in America, but it's still not one to write home about. I loved Gracie's comment, "that's so... Fran!" and Max's reply! I am also glad to see that Yetta's fiancee is Ray Charles... I read recently that Hollywood would not tackle the issue of mixed-colour relationships - and here our small screen stars are doing it, and doing it well! Bravo on that issue!

Didn't like this episode at all. After last week's brilliant ep, I was hoping for a bit more romance between Fran and Max. I also found that this episode lacked the fantastic Nanny humor I luv.

This ep was so-so in my book. I liked Ray Charles and Sylvia with the "This is my daddy!" and Yetta singing and all that, but I felt that it was a bit empty. Even Max's confession that he was worried that Fran would get the job and leave him was very matter-of-fact and lost a lot of progress in their relationship in that sense. Not bad, not overly good: just average. One point, however...I did like how the kids were actually in the show moreso in this ep. I think it incorporated them well. :)

This was ok. The whole weather girl storyline completely sucked. The idea WASN'T funny! It seemed just an excuse to get Bryant Gumble on the show, but for some reason it was the focus of the entire episode. There were a couple of funny momments. Fran's audition was funny, Yetta and Sammy were funny and Gracie was funny at the end. Other than that this was a dud. HOW MANY TIMES DID SHE CHANGE HER HAIR!!! 5 times I think. And that green outfit totally sucked!

What happened this week?! The show just wasn't funny. And Romance? Usually if the show isn't its normal outstanding humorous self, there are a couple of great lines that stick - I can't say I remember all that many tonight. I've gotto say though, it's great to finally see more of the 'kids'. Pleeaaassee be better next week.... pleeasseee???!!

It was a bit boring compared to some other episodes.

5.9 Educating Fran

December 10th, 1997

Max, will you marry me?
Romantic sparks ignite when Fran meets Maggie's philosophy professor, Steve Goldberg (Harry Hamlin), who seems perfect in every way - he's handsome, Jewish and a doctor. After several successful dates, including a meeting with his overbearing mother, Fran is convinced that Steve will propose to her. There's only one problem - Steve's fascination with astrology borders on an obsession. And when Steve's psychic advises him never to marry a younger woman, Fran's little white lie about her age comes back to haunt her. Written by: Suzanne Gangursky. Steve: Harry Hamlin

Our responses (36) gave the episode a 7.6 overall, a 7.9 for the comedy, and a 6.8 for romance. Some comments received were:

This was a GREAT episode!! Everything is right where it should be! The romance between Fran and Max is just blossoming beautifully...they are just so sweet together. Max finally admitted that he loves HER!! I was so pleasantly surprised. I hope that everything keeps movin' like this! :-) Niles, CC and the kids were wonderful...the Spanish Soap was just a riot!! Also, we saw Max at his funniest. With the Jiffy popcorn, I almost fell out of my seat!!! ROTFLOL!! :-D Keep up the great work!!

It was cute. Specially the ending with the "I love you!" thing. Next weeks is what really gets my interest.. And what is to follow!

Let's see... A good, solid, consistent plot. The guest star was great - not a wooden pace-stopper. The Thing was addressed in a way that did not make me cringe. Max and Fran made progress in their relationship, but not too much. Max admitted he was jealous and that he loved Fran - big step, yet it was done very well, without melodrama. Niles and CC had scenes together! Niles appeared in his PJ's - twice ;-) Fran was back to her warm, brilliant self and the outfits/hair were just right (even the headband). It all made sense, had some romance (but no slobbering!), and was LOL funny, too - the 3 signs of the Apocalypse! :-) My one nit - I would like to see Niles and CC not so friendly and more at odds again. Bravo, Suzanne Gangursky! An 8/10 in my book.

A real good episode; a nice change from the past few. And isn't it nice that Lauren Lane wasn't the only one with funny lines. One complaint: Fran was a little too desperate when asking if she could pleaseeee date Steve.

Mucho Better!! Now I remember why I LOVE this show so much!! Max actually ADMITS that he love Fran (but the moment gets lost in the dialog with Niles) OK, so Fran only goes out with "Steve" once and Max is totally jealous. YES! The Max/Fran train is back on the track...I'm calm now... Even Niles/CC "sharing the soap" moment showed some promise in a developing relationship (!ARRIBBA) (Oy is she huge tho) Max the pooch, very clever with the grey streak (and running from the marriage proposal). I guess Maggie is in college for real, we finally acknowledge it! Niles "I Love You" at the end was hilarious! ..great story, more romance, good pacing, nice beat, you can dance to it..I give it an eight!!

Where was the story? Fran wants to date a man, lies about her age, feels like she shouldn't be dating because of her feelings for Maxwell, gets dumped, Maxwell cheers her up. What a fresh approach for the show!! (That's sarcasm, in case someone missed it.) And what is up with the animal prints? Did she kill off the entire Serengetti for this week's episode?

Good episode very funny and romantic! Especially enjoyed Max admitting that he was in love with Fran and the spanish soap opera scenes between Niles and CC were lol! Looks like we are back on the right track!

Good, funny episode. On the right track, but still a little overacted and cartoony for my tastes. But I can live with that, since at least the plot line was believable and not totally outrageous. Anybody else wonder what happened to Steve's mother that was in the program description?

As much as I am tired of seeing different versions of the same story, I have to admit that this one was well written! Liked seeing Max confiding in Niles again, & Niles & CC watching that Spanish soap opera was LOL! Some really great lines in this episode, especially Niles' "I LOVE YOU!" & Max & Fran's "We love you too, Niles!" :-)

Finally some decent comedy & a plot ! Much better than recent episodes. ( Liked the dog "Max" & CC winding up with "Steve").

I like this one, mainly because I love seeing a jelous Maxwell!!!! Niles and C.C. watching the soap opera was so funny. I'm keeping the faith............ still not one of the best but certainly not one of the worst.....this was an improvement, I have to be honest I didn't have much hope for this one, and I was pleasantly surprised!

This was a great episode!! Loved everything about it. Alot better than the last episode. I like to see Fran acting more serious and not silly all the time and she was great in the episode. And of course Maxwell was wonderful!! Everyone did a great job!!

Much improved!! Interaction between the characters was back and LOL. It seems we may be getting closer to some feelings being acknowledged! Too many funny moments to list. I'm eagerly awaiting next week.

I think the show as described in the description above would have been far-more interesting and would have had more depth. If Fran and Steve had dated a while and Fran had met his mother, the let-down from being dumped over her lie would have had more of an emotional impact. As it was, Fran took being dumped too easily. I also feel that Maggie took Fran's betrayal a bit too easily. It's these sort of out-of-touch with reality elements that give the show a cartoony feel. Finally, I felt Hamlin's character was drawn a bit too kooky and his acting was stiff and wooden -- I didn't actually feel any chemistry between Fran and Steve.
That said, I liked the fact that CC winds up with Steve, the fact that the kids got some lines and the entire Spanish soap thing was great.
And Fran definitely needs to cut back on the animal prints!!

This episode was really cool, I gotta say. It was great!! Maybe this one was the best of the season , I laughed so so much . I noticed , too, that the nanny behave the same as the third season. And I liked a lot the part where Fran said to Max the dog : "Max would you marry me" and he went away.

I thought the show was better than all of the other ones I have seen and I especially loved the scenes with Niles and C.C with the spanish soap opera. I also liked the part when Maxwell confessed that he loves Ms. Fine to Niles, but it would be more better if he actually said it to her himself. I now know why I started to watch the show now and this episode was more funnier the other ones.

Until now, I thought this season's episodes were pretty lame. But this one takes me back to season two. Great flow from one scene to the next, and every scene clicked! Maybe the plot wasn't very original, but it was FUNNY. I guess they're finally starting to pay their writers as much as their guest stars. 8/10 for me.

Let's just say that C.C and Niles are the best comic team there is. They work off each other beautifully. I also enjoyed Fran and Maxwell's reply to Niles..."we love you too!" A nice show!

Much, much improved. Seemed to be back to the roots of the show. Warmth pervaded the episode without beng sickly. Also, just noted in your summary that Fran "meets his overbearing mother" since there was no mother, looks like the show's writers are looking at these boards and did a bit of rewriting!

[Webmaster's note: I notice that Anna Berger, who was to play Steve's mother, is cast in next week's show as Aunt Marilyn. I suspect they must have known her scenes didn't make it into the final version, or they would not have cast her the very next week as one of Fran's relatives. The program description must have been written earlier, and not updated with the change.]

Our responses (13) gave the episode a 7.1 overall, a 7.5 for the comedy, and a 6.8 for romance. Some comments received were:

I had the fourtune of being able to watch this episode (and From Flushing with Love) ahead of time. And this wasn't bad. Certainly an improvement on "Fair Weather Fran"! Again, the "cartoony", totally over the top path the show seems to of taken appears stronly in this show (ie the scene where Fran begs Maggie to date Steve was SO overdone). There were some good scenes though (the end with Niles' "I LOVE YOU" comes to mind, and the scene where Max meets Steve) and I guess this is an improvement. Lets just hope it gets better.

Well I really liked this one. It's the first episode in a long while that I've wanted to go back and watch again. Niles and the intercom was LOL. I think the whole Fran/Max relationship was handled very well in this ep. The dog with the grey patch was a little weak tho'. All over: Bravo! (And Water Rats beats Blue Heelers hands down - Logie or no Logie!!)

Nice episode...it has improved from the last few, which is great. I LOL'd at the Spanish soap opera thing, and at "I know you're in there!" "Well, move over Columbo!" Thought the best bit was Max admitting his jealousy and that he was in love with Fran. :))) I can see how its improving and how it will be in time for the engagement, which I'm waiting for with bated breath!

This ep was great. Max finally adimitted that he was jealous of Steve and Fran. The dog named Max was a great touch especially with the grey streak in his hair. The children should be shown more as Fran is supposed to be the nanny. But at least we could see that Fran and Maxwell's relationship is improving.

I just loved CC and Niles watching Spanish soap Operas.... (No, Carmencita!!!) It was really funny!

I think the best part from this show was Niles and CC and that Spanish soap opera - I'm still watching it over and over again.

The scenes with Niles and CC with the spanish soap opera were hilarious. Max with the microwave popcorn and Niles with the "I was just going down to the barn to milk bessie". What this episode really needed was a little more romance. Max the dog ( and the broadway producer for that matter) was gorgeous. Can't wait till next week.

I like this episode I thought it was funny how Maxwell gets jealous so quickly and is about to admit it to Fran that he loves her but saves himself when Maggie comes in. I just hope it gets better and I can't wait to see the next episodes, from Fushing with Love.

I enjoyed this episode - sure beats those repeats!! Great to see the relationship is moving forward. One can finally see that an engagement/wedding is possible this season! Niles and CC watching the spanish soaps, Niles responding to the intercom and Max getting frustrated at Fran for going out with Steve were all classic scenes. I love this show!! Let's all hope that we get all the new eps for the rest of the season! (And I so much agree with the previous post - Water Rats is also a great show - with or without a logie!)
