Finally! After five seasons, the moment has arrived: Fran and Maxwell are getting engaged. While it's been inevitable
since the debut episode, Maxwell's plan to pop the question is still supposed to
be a surprise to Fran. But Niles isn't one to keep
secrets---especially after Maxwell shows him the diamond ring he's bought for
his precious Ms. Fine. Skip ahead a few nanoseconds, and half of Flushing is
in on the news. Of course, the actual night of the special engagement takes a
few unexpected turns. (TV Guide)
Worried that Maxwell will never propose, Fran is overjoyed to
discover that he secretly bought an engagement ring and will soon
ask her to be his wife. When Maxwell asks Fran and the Fine family
to dinner for a "special occasion," she spreads the word that a
marriage proposal will be the main course. On the way to meet his
future bride and in-laws, however, Maxwell gets mugged and the ring
is stolen, and Fran discovers that diamonds aren't necessarily a
girl's best friend. (CBS Press Release) Written by: Rick Shaw. Jake: Jake
McKinney, Mr. Chung: Jim Lau, Mugger: Vasili Boganzianos, Rabbi: Sandy Hackett.
Our responses (71) gave the episode a 9.6 overall, a 9.1 for the comedy, and a 9.7 for romance. Some comments received were:
Would it be too bold of me to say, "Whoa, baby girl!"? :-) What can I say? It was wonderful! I think it was done very, very well! And it was awesome to see more interaction between Niles and C.C. I'm gonna miss her! At any rate, I found it fantastic!
I just loved this episode it rates right up there with "An Affair to Dismember" Finally after 5 years of waiting he Pops the question~Go Max!! I can't wait for next week!!!!
Well it's about time!!!!!!I loved most of the show although at times they were a little too cutesy. Max was gorgeous and the talking to Sarah made me tear -up- Fran looked great and Niles was his old self- so was CC. But when is Max going to lose the old wedding ring?
I never expected to see an engagement episode-- and now everything is happening very quickly. I thought the scene where Max talked to Sarah was poignant and true to his character-- a nice touch. I liked the show-- but Fran should tell Max directly that she loves him. And when he asked her the second time-- would she marry him-- she should have said, "Yes-- I love you" and not "What do you think?" The next weeks should be interesting!
YES; it was extremely good. It had some parts that I didn't like ( i.e the song, the way they called each other Fran and Max / Mr. and Mrs.) but the rest was great. I loved the spaghetti scene!!! Although it was tooo cutesy I still loved it! Ha!
I thought this was a terrific ep. :-) Excellent pace and plot continuity; good use of all the characters and I really did like the flash-forward, especially CC's multiple face-lifts and Max's reverse streak. LOL! The Sarah scene was well-done, I thought both men were gorgeous, and every one of Sylvia's lines was right on target. Some of the mushy stuff was a bit gaggy, but CC's reactions served to buffer them well. IMO, this is exactly how writers should handle comedy and romance together in a sitcom.
I REALLY enjoyed this episode!!! I thought the romance was perfect, and I loved the way Niles stole the show as always!!!! Lauren (bless her heart) had her act together as always!!!
Loved the episode.Thought it had a good blend of comedy and romance.Did not like the way they were still using last names instead of first names. They need to stick with Fran and Max.Looking forward to next weeks show.
I loved it!! After five years, it has finally happened and I couldn't be happier. However, I do agree that Fran needs to say I love you back to Max. Hopefully next week when she gets the "real" ring. I loved the spaghetti scene - so out of character for Max. It's nice to see him so emotional. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for next week.
They never mentioned Fran's dad also she has yet to say that she loves him to his face.
At last, the long awaited proposal!!! On the whole, I thought it was pretty well-done. A little TOO sweet in some places for my taste (the spaghetti scene), but lots of LOL moments. Niles & Yetta were a scream, & CC's comment,"You'd better take up knitting..." was one of the best! Nice that we finally got some closure with Sarah, too - although I would have liked to see him remove the ring himself. As for the actual proposal, I thought it was very romantic, ("This is all so sudden!" LOL) & I'm so glad they didn't have the entire Fine family in tow.
Hi, this is Rick Shaw. Glad you guys liked tonight's show. Stay tuned for whether Fran signs a pre-nuputual, whether she adopts the kids, what secrets are revealed during Maxwell's bachelor party and of course, the big wedding - and if she makes it to alter on time.
All Right ! Finally the show we've been waiting for ! Great acting by Charles in the "talking to Sarah" scene & by Daniel when "Niles" sees the ring. The spaghetti scene was a bit much ( but I have the feeling it was intended to be just that). Keep it up guys & we'll keep watching !
Finally - it has happened! I was a little disappointed in this episode - I thought that it could've been more romantic, a little bit more realism. When she found Max, she was calling him Mr. Sheffield, he - Ms. Fine. I would've thought first names. But, it was still a great episode. Beautiful comedy between CC and Niles. And did anyone else notice the scene where Max is talking to Sarah. Looks like they've been reading our Fan Fiction page!!! When's the wedding??!!!
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!!!!! Adored the part where Max said his good-byes to Sarah. Only problem was that Fran still hasn't told HIM that she loves him.
I think that what made this show was the Maxwell/Sarah speech and the terrific way they had Sylvia spreading the word in all of three minutes. It was clever and romantic without being slapstick. I can't wait to see NY high society with the Fine family. Didn't you just love it when Max said "What voice?"
I think Niles said it best...."YESSSSSS!!!!"
Great episode!!!! I was in tears when Maxwell was talking to his wife, Sara. It was so sweet!! And I loved the ending!! I was so worried about Maxwell when the muggers threatened him. I wanted to rescue him myself!! He is so sweet!!
I loved this episode!! I thought it had alot of Romance and comedy put together. The most part I liked was when they showed them old and C.C!!
I thought this was a very enjoyable episode - funny and romantic. Well done!
LOVED IT!!! For some reason, I didn't expect this show to be funny, but it was hilarious. The lady and the tramp thing with the spaghetti was kind of gross, but very funny inretrospect. Niles was in top form, I love that he and Fran are such good buddies. Favorite line: Fran:Let's face it Ms. Babcock, I'm not that much help! and the shameless giggle and happiness from Fran and Max. Can't wait for the end of the season, or the beginning of next!!!
What a great show. Kudos to Rick Shaw. Enjoyed every bit of it. The Niles/Fran friendship is such a strong and enjoyable aspect of the show. Charles was adorable as usual. Gotta say I want to look too deeply into that "future" sequence regarding Niles and CC. Come on Mr. Shaw, throw us Niles/CC fans a bone too!!!!!! Please, please!!!
I LOVED this ep- especially the gooey spaghetti scene! I thought the flash forward scene was a little tacky, but the tag scene more than pacified me. I absolutely can't wait until next week. "Bravo" to the Nanny staff!
There were so many great elements in the writing and acting of this show. Dream sequences are always so much fun--this one was so inkeeping with the shows longtime premises about age, their relationship even Niles and C.C.s. The alley scene was exceptionally tender.
A very satisfying engagement episode. My favorite section was the rhyming charades game between Niles and Fran. He do, Yahoo! What a hoot! Unlike some of the previous posters, I felt the name thing was fine. It will take time to get over five years of habit, they are bound to slip into "Miss Fine/Mr. Sheffield" from time to time, especially under stress. I too would have liked to see Maxwell slip Sarah's ring off and stick it in a pocket himself before the muggers got it, but I guess that's nitpicking. Did you notice in the flashforward scene that the dress that C.C. was carrying in was the dress Fran wore to her singles party in the third year? And the first dress on the rack was the "Hustle" dress from the second year. Even the outfit the future Fran had on was one she has worn before but which episode escapes me. Perhaps someone with eagle eyes and a good memory can fill in which episode. One last trivia thing I noted that was a nice little touch was the name of the Chinese restaurant that Sylvia was calling. When Val came in to congratulate Fran, she mentioned she had heard the news from "Mr. Chung at the Rickshaw Hunan Palace". Sneaky way to work your name into a script! Nice.
I, too, thought the "Miss Fine/Mr. Sheffield" name thing was quite natural. They've been calling each other by those names since they've known each other so it's to be expected that they might slip back into their old habits. I loved the scene in the alley--we saw such a tender side of Fran and such a vulnerable side of Max. In fact, I can't recall Max seeming so vulnerable before. I thought the dream sequence was LOL. Charles looked scrumptious as usual. And I thought the spaghetti scene was adorable. :)
This episode was great. I loved Max talking to Sarah. I agree with others that Fran needs to say "I love you." I liked that Fran and Max were alone for the proposal. I wouldn't have liked having the peanut gallery present. I can't wait to see Max and Fran from now on. And, how Max gets along with the Fines. It should be a lot of fun.
Loved the flash into a (?) future, Niles in the non-cornering wheelchair made the scene. The office scene was in keeping with why this show is funny and I do hope the wedding has some of the old show humor, like the run and chase scenes behind the glass doors while Niles was singing, but that may have more to do with the honeymoon. It might be nice to have Niles sing at the wedding because he is more than 'the help' to both of them, and it would be not in keeping with the proper way to have him as part of the wedding party. Loved the charades, and the hand on the face to fix the word was very humorous. Yetta was as always confused and brillant.
I too thought the episode was great! I love the show and have since the first episode. Can't wait to see future shows. Everyone in the cast was wonderful as usual and I tip my hat to Fran Drescher; she has done a remarkable job with this series.
All in all, this episode was great, a Nanny fan's dream! But, I did notice something in the beginning that shouldn't have happened--- Remember when Gracie was standing with Fran and Max at the beginning and then commented on how many times Max had told Fran he loved her? Well, from that, she went inside, and soon after, Fran and Max entered. But when Max told everyone the news, she reacted the same as everyone else, as if she had just heard it, and then when he said "Oh yeah, I didn't take it back", she cheered and rushed towards them like everyone else... Clearly a directors error. Sorry for nitpicking!
I loved the fact that when Max proposed (AHH! FINALLY!!!) he didn't take it for granted that she would say yes by asking "Will you?" a second time. I thought that in itself was really important because it shows the difference in his attitude as opposed to earlier episodes. I think that not being sure about whether she would accept his proposal even though she had obviously wanted him to propose all season shows a side to Max I like. An EXCELLENT episode!! :)))) All tens, this was the Nanny ep I've been waiting for since day one!
I really enjoyed the show....thought it was too good to be true! Hope they can keep the sparks going because marriage has been very unkind to other shows. But, I realize this isn't any of those other shows, and Fran Drescher is a very savvy lady! One thing bothered me....C.C. looked very pregnant. I realize that she is, but she isn't supposed to be on the show. That may just be me, but it did bother me! Overall, a great show!
How much better can it get than this? Our favorite romantic couple is finally ready
to make a committment. And this was the FUNNIEST episode I think I have ever seen (good job
Rick) Max and Fran are acting like two love-sick teenagers, with that spaghetti scene (should
make for an interesting honeymoon!)
Niles stole the show, with "this is the happiest day of my life" and the charades "I do? he do!
yahoo!" CC with the 1000 face lifts from hell was more than I could stand, I could not stop
laughing, and then hearing Niles yell, "I don't want to go with her" pushed me over the edge.
Max's poignant soliloquy about Sarah was done well and was appropriate (even though he did not
take the ring off) and Fran still needs to say "I Love You Max" (hidden issues here?)
After all the hype and publicity, the actual "proposal moment" was a bit anti-climactic for me
personally. Nothing can compare to the surprise felt when Max proposed in front of his mother
the first time!
Overall outstanding episode; an instant classic! If we keep up this pacing, storyline,
writing, and proper publicty by CBS, Fran will be back on top where she belongs!
I rated it almost a ten overall because it was unpredictable - I did not really believe he would pop the question and this kept me at high pitch. I was thrilled with this show. I love it I love I love it. It sets the tone for my week. I have never run to the tv to watch anything else that with such gusto.
The show was really funny. I thought it could have used a bit more romance, but then, what can I say, I've always loved the kissing scenes with Maxwell and Fran.
What we've waited for so long! If anyone can have the show survive, Fran Drescher can.
I thought this was one of the best shows ever. What happens this week?
Great show. I loved the scene where Max said goodbye to Sarah. It's nice that Rick remembered that Max did lose wife and a serious, touching time out was needed just before he asked Fran to marry him. Keep up the great work C'MON FRAN. It's high time you said "I love you" to Max.
Unfortunetly, I did not get to see this episode. Upon reading what everyone had to say, I would have really liked to see it. I have always waited for this episode. Every week I read the Neilsen TV Ratings in the newspaper, and The Nanny hasn't been doing that great. I hope for all our sakes' that CBS renews it so we will see what happens if and when they get married. I hope they show a repeat during the summer!
I just saw 15 minutes of the show but i think that Charles was great, he is really getting more cute every week. I hope I could see the rest of the ep soon. I love Charles!!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I loved this one! It was the best I have seen this season. Nice combination of drama and comedy. Glad Fran listened to her gut, rather than everyone else, when Max didn't come home. The Sarah talk was sweet and all together healthy for the series. This issue has needed dealt with for a long time and they did it with tact. Loved the how cute Fran and Max are when nothing is going wrong.
FINALLY! It's about time. I'm just so happy they are finally getting married.

Our responses (13) gave the episode a 9.5 overall, a 9.3 for the comedy, and a 9.6 for romance. Some comments received were:
Finally!!!!!!! - I absolutely loved it, but I'm sure that the wedding episode would be even better. I think the best parts of this episode were the Max talking to Sarah bit and the actual proposal - I take it back, it was all great. Can't wait till next week! :-)
I thought it was the best ep ever!!! I loved it soooo much, it was so romantic, I loved how Max talked to Sara, and how he FINALY asked her. I loved that Fran had faith in Max the whole time, and Max looked soooo cute the whole time. BEST ep EVER, great perfomance by both Fran and Max, and the rest of the crew, keep up the good work. Now I carn't wait to "THE WEDDING."
WOW!! I loved the spaghetti!! LOL!!
Great show !! Very romantic!! I loved when Max started to speak with Sarah.
There are SOOO many nice things I could say about this episode, but for the time being I just have two words: AWE-SOME!
What an unbelievable episode! I gotta say, this went beyond ALL of my expectations. It was just so great in EVERY way. Not only was it a very sweet way for Fran and Max to get engaged, but it was also VERY funny!!! Fran was HYSTERICAL as a 69 year old, and the phone conversation scene was fantastic! I have to say I'm thrilled with this episode, and I hope they continue on this streak!
Great episode...FINALLY!! This episode was surprisingly funny I thought it was gonna be all mushy because of the engagement. The dream Fran had was so funny! LOL The really old niles was so funny!! The scene with everyone talking on the phone was a crackup too.
This was really great! My only disappointing moment was when Fran went to search for Max and was calling out "Mr. Sheffield". I much prefer the Fran / Max first name thing. Oh well. Only a minor slip in an otherwise wonderful episode.
I loved this episode so much!!!! It would take up the whole page to say why so.....suffice it to say, IT WAS BRILLIANT!!!! I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I particularly loved the spaghetti. I can't wait foe the wedding which, in my opinion is set to be even more explosive than this. Congradulations to all the cast for a spectacular episode, keep 'em coming!
What can I say? That was so sweet and left me with a good feeling afterwards. I just cannot wait for the finale, now!
WOO HOO!!
| Fran feels "low rent" after attending her first high society party as Maxwell's fiancée. Hurt to discover that some of Maxwell's snobby friends are making fun of her behind her back, and worried that her low class background will drive away the elite investors in Maxwell's productions, Fran confesses her fears to a sympathetic homeless man, Preston (Martin), whom she meets in Central Park. Meanwhile, Sylvia tries to convince Maxwell to purchase Fran's engagement ring from Uncle Stanley, a pawn shop owner (Mort Drescher), but Maxwell opts for a slightly more reputable establishment -- Cartier. Uncle Stanley: Morty Drescher, Society Woman #1: Dorothy Lyman, Preston Collier: Dick Martin, Maids: Adeline Drescher and Jean Ford, Rowena Balos, Paul Beringer, Don Condon, Jennifer Edwards. |
Our responses (48) gave the episode a 8.6 overall, a 8.4 for the comedy, and a 8.3 for romance. Some comments received were:
Bravo! That was an excellent show! Well performed and superbly written, this is the type of episode I have longed to see! Who says that you can't tackle a serious topic with comedy & style? Who says the romance is over once the commitment is made? Ivan Menchell, you just proved them all wrong!
The only thing that really got my laughing so hard I almost cried was the two singing telegrams sent to C.C.'s apartment. I was in stitches throughout the entire commercial segment afterwards! I also thought C.C.'s developing twitch was pretty funny. Other than that, though, I was a little disappointed, considering how absolutely HYSTERICAL last week's ep was, this one didn't have the zings. The Tilex comment was good, the "you look like you swallowed an accordion" was good, and, of course, Max choosing Fran over potential backers was wonderful to see!
For being the first ep. that they were engaged it was a riot! I loved Niles and CC, extra funny. And Max and Fran were really cute, they look so in love. =)
This episode was good, but it doesn't beat the engagement. I liked it that Max and Fran were using first names now. I loved the scene where Max calls Sylvia Ma so she won't come over more. Ma just doesn't sound right when he says it. Niles' singing telegram to C.C. was great. All in all I give this episode a nine.
Still no mention of Fran's dad, also would have liked to see Max put the ring on her finger.
I absolutely loved this ep. The comedy was great and I just love Fran and Max's new relationship. This is going to keep me watching TN forever. I love the fact that Max seems so comfortable around everyone with the engagement and his love for Fran (calling her Fran and kissing her)! We could definitely see that C.C. is trying to break them up, but of course she won't. I loved the singing telegram. That was hilarious! Keep up the great work.
This one won the gold medal. The writing was on target, the comedy was perfect, and the romance was tender but passionate. The cast pulled it off beautifully and hopefully showed CBS what a winner they have.
The plots where Fran seems to be doing, or being completely wrong and then saves the day are the best. We love Fran, and know she is the best thing for Max --it's wonderful when she sweetly succeeds.
Wow, its so franny.
I liked this episode, but I didn't love it. I thought that Fran giving her home address to a homeless man no matter how nice he seemed, was so unrealistic it wasn't even funny. Nobody in their right mind living in New York would give their address to a homeless person! I also think that they need to give Lauren Lane something else to do besides lurk around corners waiting for Max and Fran to break up, although I thought that Niles did get some good shots at her. Now's the time fo r the Niles and C.C. relationship to get into high gear since Fran and Max are now officially engaged. I also thought the episode was too pat and the choosing of the engagement ring was just brushed off. The episode should have been either about the engagement ring or the dinner party not both.
GOOD COMEDY!!! I really enjoyed the comedy lines!!! My favorite part was of Niles sending over the "Messenger boys" !!!!
Last week someone asked when Max was going to lose the wedding ring...it happened during the mugging. Hope they get a little more physical/intimate, after all they are adults in their prime! I loved the singing telegram to CC. That was hysterical.
Ok folks I think I'm going to be in the minority but this episode didn't DO it for me. I loved the Yiddish (which was all used quite appropriately) and the CC/Niles banter but I think the episode needed more out front Max/Fran differences and not him being so automatically accepting The Preston thing again was a little coincidental and cutesy. I love the way the show is going and can't wait for each week but I just hope that they don't become too complacent now that they're engaged- By the way who will play Morty when the Wedding comes? Jewish women are usually walked down the aisle by BOTH parents. Any suggestions?
Fran still needs to say it!!! Also, thought Max should have put the ring on her instead of Fran grabbing it out of the box. BUT loved Niles RUNNING to let C.C. in to see the ring. It's clear Max is really in love- all the things about Fran that used to totally aggravate him, he no longer notices (what voice?). He's so sure everyone is as enamoured of Fran as he is.
I loved watching Niles torture C.C. with the news about Fran and Max!!! Fran's father did a really good job with playing Uncle Stanley!!!
It was great and so sweet when Maxwell comforted Fran when when was worried about ruining his party with his high society friends. Loved the whole show!!
YES!!!!
I was disappointed by this episode. I'll start with the things I did like though:
Morty's appearance as uncle Stanley: "This girl is like a daughter to me", that was great.
Also, the scene they showed in the promo "He treats me like a princess -honk honk- I'm comin'!
Oh we are SO married" that was very funny too. I liked Dorothy Lyman's appearance as well, it
was nice to have her in front of the cameras again.
The scene at the park was OK.
Now the stuff I didn't like: I think the scene at Chanel (which lasted a long 2:30 minutes)
lacked a reason for existing, it was almost pointless. I also didn't like CC's reaction towards
the engagement, she's turning into such a looser. Also that scene in the kitchen with Fran and
Sylvia was way too long for what they had to say, and Sylvia's "What did they serve?" punch
lines were kind of monotonous.
This episode reminded me of 1.3 "My Fair Nanny" (having Ms. Lyman in both eps was a great
idea), only back then Fran made the snobs at the party like her for who she really was even if
she didn't fit in.
This was another great ep. It was sweet and funny. Fran was dressed very well and
really looked like she belonged in high society. Max was wonderful and it was nice to see him
stand by her at such an important moment. That moment being 9:07! C.C. and Niles stoled the
show with their comments. I loved it when Niles said:" It is Miss Babcock! It is!" LOL!!!!!!
Also, thought the two maids in the kitchen were great.
The end was just right with Fran being the reason someone DECIDED to invest in Maxwell's
play. Those two make such a picture perfect romance. Can't wait until next week. I hope the
writers keep up the great work! Everyone on staff, cast and crew, we love ya!!!
Wow! I am loving this! We are dealing with real issues without losing any of the
comedy or romance, while continuing to advance the relationships between all the characters.
OUTSTANDING!
Maxwell and Fran were great finding that "retail!!" diamond (we loved the remark "I love her
like my daughter"). Maxwell's supremely ackward "Ma" and the kids "Grandma/Boubie" was just
histerical. It is so great that Max is really showing us how much he is in love with Fran
(still no "I love you Max"..) and the first names are becoming more natural. And Fran made a
remark to let us know that they still have not "gone all the way" yet. Oy, what a honeymoon
this will be!
Niles is being SO MEAN to CC, but I have to love it...he just steals the show. I was ROTFL at
the chorus singers and Niles running to the door "Oh It IS Miss Babcock, it IS". And CC
getting him back with the "firing Niles after the wedding", was classic! They totally deserve
each other; it would be a twisted relationship, but it would be great.
You could interject a little more of the kids into the story lines. (does Maggie ever go to
class?)
But basically, it just keeps gets better and better!
This one was a real winner! I don't remember laughing that hard continuously at an ep. for quite some time (esp. the first half). If all Nanny eps. were written like this, we'd have very little reason to ever complain :-) Thanks, Ivan!
Another excellent episode - Charles, as always, was terrific . He reminded me of Cary Grant in the last scene - very smooth & self assured ( & very handsome). The dynamics between C.C. & Niles characters were great - the twitch was hilarious. It was also nice to see Fran show a more vulnerable side which was good. Wardrobe people take note : She looked excellent in both the black dresses - finally elegance instead of "Muppet fur" ( as C.C. called it) & those awful animal prints. I know weird clothing is part of her character but Fran is so stunning when she wears "normal" clothing - she should wear it more often .Great work guys - (Now lets hope CBS has the good sense to renew the show for next season ! ).
I loved this episode better than the Engagement ! There was a consistent flow to it
all - except for the scene in the two jewellery shops. I still do not really understand why
Uncle Stanley's shop was put in the storyline, and as for Cartier : I found it strange that
Fran picked the very first ring. Both shops scenes were done in a hurry, it felt as if buying
the ring was an obligatory scene, whether it fit in the story or not.
For the rest : tons of great performed lines ("What do they serve ?"," It IS miss Babcock, it
IS !", "Grandma, Nana, Bubbi !", "It is 9:07", "She hasn't had lunch - ever...") and some
hysterical scenes : the singing telegrams, Sylvia in that dress - a sight I loved to hate !!
I found it very cute how Niles congratulated Fran on the engagement by calling her "Mrs.
Sheffield" - a friend who's happy for a friend.
I did rate the romance a little lower than the comedy though. Not because of the romance
really, but more because of the missing passion. Consider : they've supressed their feelings
for so long, they should be bubbling like champagne now that they've finally come to openly
admit how they feel. On the other hand, for some reason (I hope this will be explained !), they
decide not to hit the bed yet, something that corks the champagne. This should lead to some
very tense moments in the eps to come, and I'd love to see some of that supressed passion again
- now that we're still waiting for that honeymoon.
We've seen some very good episodes the past 6 weeks, and this one tops them all. Let's hope the
trend continues, and we have a Wedding that goes through the roof !
The show isn't as good as it use to be. I hate to say that because it is my favorite show.
The episode was good, but it couldn't top the previous week's show for overall quality. I really liked the set ups for cultural clashes between the Sheffields and the Fines. Niles was hilarious in his various plots to confront C.C. with the reality of the engagement. (C.C. looked so pregnant and, while I'm happy for Lauren, the condition was hard to ignore within the framework of the show.) Fran looked great in both black dresses and the ring is truly spectacular. But somehow, the show didn't seem to have the emotional power I'd hoped for-- perhaps there was too much going on in the episode. The relationship between Fran and Maxwell almost seemed to be taken for granted after all the struggle for them to get together. Perhaps Fran's "We're so married" line reflects a fundamentally ordinary quality in the relationship at a time when it should be new, exciting and passionate. Maybe Fran and Maxwell have to be shown more alone together interacting with each other as individuals, without lots of others around and not only physically connecting with each other. Can they actually have a conversation? Shouldn't Maxwell consult Fran before inviting a house full of guests to dinner? Shouldn't Fran trust Maxwell enough to share her fears and apprehensions with him? And, btw, another episode flew by without Fran telling Max that she loved him.
It was great!! I loved the fact that Maxwell is comfortable about showing his feelings for Fran. Those little kisses they had together were so sweet!!
I think I'm in the minority...while I thought the ep was good, I didn't think it great. I loved Maxwell's calling Sylvia Ma under duress and the singing telegram.... Niles and CC were a stitch as usual. Other than that, I thought they could have injected more tender moments...like picking out the perfect ring and Max putting it on Fran's finger, and Fran finally vocalizing her feelings....

Our responses (13) gave the episode a 8 overall, a 8 for the comedy, and a 8 for romance. Some comments received were:
Really enjoyable ep! I was laughing pretty much the entire time, non-stop! Niles/CC interactions were hilarious - the singing telegram was - yeah!!! And the part when CC was upset on the couch and was talking about Niles and how he was going to be fired! Classic!!! Max was great - really supportive and loving, and Fran was just her lovable self. All the actors did a fantastic job in this episode - I felt the only thing that let this episode down was the "cut and paste" feeling to the plot. It was a bit patchy, some parts were not really relevant to the story line and this made the whole thing not flow too smoothly. The essence of the episode was there however, and it was strong enough to get through the whole ep - I really enjoyed this one!
Another extrememly enjoyable episode. A great follow up to a wonderul engagement. I enjoyed this because it had a very good pace - it had a believable storyline which wasn't contrived and was very funny at the same time, as well as being romantic. But not TOO cutesy. I especially enjoyed Niles tormenting Miss Babcock.. the singing message was hysterical. Another wonderful show - straight 9's! Can't wait for next week!
What can I say? It was "wonderful, wonderful..." I'll be watching this one again and again as well!
I thought it was sooo funny with Niels and CC. It was also great how Max didn't care what the backers thought if Fran, very romantic. I love the ring too! Not that we got a close look at it, but since the dimand is sooo big you could see it a mile away! Great ep, keep up the good work!
I agree with the comment that it was cut and pastish, but I still loved it. I thought the bit when Fran said "You're marrying so beneath you" and Max told her that he didn't care about his snobby 'friends'. Can't wait till next week!! :-)
