During a race to see who will get to enjoy the free jacuzzi, the phone rings. Niles: I can let a phone ring, can't you? It might be that fabulous man you were telling your mother about. Fran: No, he wouldn't call. Niles: Why not? Fran: I made him up! |
But it was Mr. Sheffield, home from the party and drunk as a skunk. |
Fran points out that the problem could be that he is still wearing his wedding ring. She encourages him to start thinking of himself as a single man and to get out and about more. |
The next morning, Mr. Sheffield is suffering from a hangover and he is unhappy because no women at the party talked to him. |
C.C. thinks Maxwell should hire a publicist and she gets Sydney Mercer for the job. |
Though Ms. Mercer is not exactly what C.C. had in mind, Maxwell liked her on sight. |
Mr. Sheffield is a changed man around Sydney. He asks her to to join him for dinner at the Rainbow Room to celebrate their success. |
On his way out to his date with Sydney, Fran notices Mr. Sheffield has removed his wedding ring. He tells her he thinks he's 'met the one.' |
Sydney stops by the house because she had thought she was supposed to meet Maxwell there. Fran wishes her all the happiness in the world with him. |
But Sydney explains that she isn't interested in Max that way. Sydney: Fran, I'm gay. Fran: You're gay? Oh thank God!! |
Fran: I'm letting go and you're not. Why? Sydney: Aren't you gay too? Fran: Me? No! Sydney: I just assumed, you're over thirty, never been married, there's no man in your life. Fran: Oh honey, I'm not gay, I'm just pathetic! |
Recognizing that Mr. Sheffield is now waiting for a date that isn't coming, Fran goes down to the Rainbow Room hoping to take advantage of the situation. She catches up with him in the elevator. |
When the elevator stalls, Fran tries to climb out the escape hatch, but she gets stuck halfway. |
Fran tries to comfort Mr. Sheffield in his disappointment over Sydney. Max: Thank you Miss Fine, but I'm afraid I wouldn't know the right women for me if she fell out of the sky. |
