Val and Fran are out trolling for guys at a sports bar. Fran has decided to give up on men entirely when Mike LaVoe of the NY Rangers hits on her.

All the guys in the family are thrilled that Fran is dating Mike Lavoe. They play one upmanship with the nicknames Mike calls them. Brighton's 'Partner' is outdone by Max's 'Pal', which is surpassed by Niles' 'Boss'. But Fran wins hands down with her 'Sexy Thing.'

Mike turns out to be a little odd; his superstitions and rituals cross the line when he won't allow her to eat the 13th shrimp on the plate.

Max: Wait a minute, why are you eating like someone that doesn't have a boyfriend? You screwed up our date!! Did you pick off his plate?
Fran: Oh come on, what do you think, I was born in a barn?

Fran really wants to break up with Mike, but the guys "guilt" her into going to the big game so that they can go too.

Mike's "lucky charm" enjoys the attention at first.

But when the Rangers start losing and Fran and her red shoes are blamed as a jinx, she isn't as happy. The entire city of NY turns on her.

Fran tells Mr. Sheffield he'd better get Mike LaVoe to tell the world that she is not a jinx since it was all Max's fault for not letting her break up with him when she wanted to.

Mr. Sheffield finds Mike at a bar, but gets so engrossed with meeting some of the other Rangers, he forgets about talking to Mike about Fran.

Max: Pssst, Niles, I'm in trouble. Didn't talk to Mike LaVoe about that jinx business. Had a couple of beers with the boys instead.

He should have looked behind him before he said that though.....

Max: Oh Miss Fine. All right come on, let me have it. I deserve it. [silence] Oh Miss Fine, please? I never thought I'd say this but, please talk?

Max: Oh no, don't cry, oh no, please don't cry. I can't stand it when you cry. What can I do to make it up to you? Oh I know, I'll buy you something. Anything. Just please say you'll forgive me. [he leaves]
Fran: Oh, I am so ready to be married.

So Fran take matters into her own hands and goes down to the Ranger's locker room to convince Mike herself. She does a strip tease number filled with hexes to get him to listen to her, broken mirrors, number 13 on her shirt and, gasp, red shoes included.

Back at home, the family is watching the game on TV when they hear Mike apologize to Fran on the air.

Fran takes off her red shoes and the Rangers score, winning the game.
