2.7 A Star Is Unborn

Fran and Niles enjoy a too brief moment of rest from the rat race together. [From offstage] Fran!! Niles!!! Niles: Was it as good for you as it was for me? Fran: Actually Niles, I was faking it.

I've found my Juliet! Phillipe is a producer who is going to stage a new avant garde production of Romeo and Juliet. He is looking for a "fresh new face with a unique voice" to star. Guess who gets the part?

Max is not very supportive of the idea and worries about Fran being able to keep up with her duties at home. Grace: Fran, you can't be in the play. Brighton: Yeah, who will do our laundry, clean our rooms, wait on us hand and foot? Fran: The same person that always does. Niles.

Niles helps her rehearse, but Fran is unimpressed with his acting prowess. You're supposed to dust the scenery, not chew it!

So Max helps her instead.	Max: Sleep dwell in thine eyes, peace in thy breast. Oh would that I were sleep and peace so sweet to rest.
Fran: Goodnight, goodnight. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Max has a little trouble handling the kids while Fran is gone. Max: I've already sent you to bed five times! What are you doing still up? Brighton: I'm not tired! Max: Maybe that has something to do with the pound of chocolate I told you not to eat! Brighton: Actually, I think it was the gallon of Cola you told me not to drink.

Fran finally makes it home from rehearsal and discovers the mess. Max: Maybe if you'd been here your children wouldn't have been running amok. Fran: So when they're sweet adorable angels they're your children and when they're amok they're mine? Max: Well, you are the nanny! Fran: And that's all you want me to be!

Fran: Well that's it. I'm going home to my mother! Max: Don't bother, I'm sleeping on the couch! Fran: If we're splitting up, I get Niles. Max: You couldn't afford him. Fran: Not on what you pay me! Niles: It's always the butler who suffers.

Max:[re: Fran] I don't think I've ever met a more infuriating, irritating women. C.C.: Hello, hello. Niles: Think hard sir. C.C.: I just heard the most delicious news.... Niles: Well why don't you run, make a friend and tell them all about it. C.C.: Phillipe needs a tax write off so he wants the show to flop. That's why he cast Nanny Fine to guarantee a total disaster!

Meanwhile, off at rehearsal.... Actress: I don't know how she got this part. Romeo: She must be sleeping with him. Actress: I slept with him, I got two lines! Romeo: I slept with him, I got Romeo.

Here's to my love, thy drugs act quick, thus with a kiss, I die. [Romeo was played by Peter Marc Jacobson]

Oh happy dagger, this is thy sheath. Then rust and let me die.

Now Romeo and Juliet ascend to heaven.... But the wires gave Fran a little trouble.

Max comes down to rehearsal to apologize and to talk to Fran about being in the play. Fran: You know, we shouldn't fight anymore, it's so hard on Niles. .... You're gonna say that you and the kids really need me at home and the mansion's a mess, and I don't belong in this play and you'd be absolutely right. Max: I would? Fran: Yeah. Isn't that what you were gonna say?
