ATM/Debit Card Safety
>Treat your card like cash. Keep it in a safe place. Do not leave your ATM card lying around the house or on your desk at work. No one should have access to your card but you.>Keep your personal identification number (PIN) a secret.>Never disclose information about your card in response to an unsolicited e-mail or request.>Do not disclose card information over the phone to anyone. No one needs to know your PIN, not even your financial institution.>Closely monitor your bank statements, as well as your balance, and immediately report any problems to your bank.
>Observe your surroundings before approaching a walk-up ATM. If anyone or anything appears to be suspicious, cancel your transaction and leave the area at once. >Never allow a stranger to assist you in conducting an ATM transaction, even if you have trouble.
>If you are involved in a confrontation with an assailant who demands your money, the best practice is to comply! >Minimize time spent at the ATM by having your card out and ready to use.>Maintain a supply of deposit envelopes at home or in your car. Prepare all transaction paperwork prior to your arrival a the ATM. This will minimize the amount of time spent at the machine.>Look for possible fraudulent devices attached to the card slot or PIN pad.>Never allow the cashier or anyone else to enter your PIN for you, even if they are assisting you with the transaction.>Block the view of others when using a terminal.>Be sure the transaction is complete and you have received your receipt.>When using a drive-up ATM, keep your engine running, doors locked and leave enough room to maneuver between your car and the one ahead of you in the drive-up line.
